The atmosphere is more like a glorifed loft then a bar/cafe
I've been to this venue a few times to see particular musicians, and for the notable Source Open Mic Night which I believe occurs every week.
The venue itself is located on the edge of 'The Atlas Works', on the third floor of a building which looks from the outside as though it used to be a factory of some sort, with not much if any attempt by the owner to change its pretty dire, worn out look.
The renovation inside isn't great. When walking into The Source for the first time back in the middle of 2010 I remember being quite disappointed at the lack of effort to make the place seem like a proper bar, however there are a few hints here and there of attempts to make the place look homely with Sofa's and mood lighting.
I would say its a venue most probably aimed at a student market, and plenty of students come and go from The Source, however its pretty shabby and the drinks aren't cheap or not a cheap as you'd expect. (Especially considering my first drink, a 'draught' Guinness, was poured out of a bottle to one side)
The Source does have one or two saving graces.. Firstly is that it is usually a quiet place to go and relax with friends when you want to beable to talk and listen in an audible venue. Secondly, the sound equipment for Open Mic is a good set up, and the staff adjust the sound well. The staff are also very friendly.
To round off, I'de say if you have enough of a group going out to build an atmosphere, then its definitely a chancer, but if you're expecting the venue itself to deliver, don't get your hopes up. read more
