I've been using his services for the maintenance and repair of all my guitars for about eight years. I've also had the opportunity to attend the workshops he regularly organizes. I'm truly delighted to know him and work with him. read more

The staff present studiously ignored me whilst they had coffee with pals, so I eventually went to sit in my car outside where I watched online demos and looked for anywhere else to spend my money on a Roland. I bought a Korg at Mucic Maker yesterday and had the opposite experience. They don't stock Roland, unfortunately, but I felt helped and valued by staff there. As a business owner, I can't understand the sub minimal effort approach at X-Music. It doesn't take a lot of effort just to say "Hello" when someone walks into your shop.

The stock they have is awesome, the shop is super nicely laid out, really like stepping back in time. The guitars and ukulele's are beautiful, and genuinely good prices. I spoke to someone on the phone who was knowledgeable and really kind, however when I went in, the guy serving just made us feel like we were an inconvenience. We spent over 200euro all in, and it wasn't until the next day when I went to pick up one of the guitars he showed a bit more empathy and gratitude. He mentioned he was grateful for the custom, especially as everyone is going online now these days. I mean, I get that, however, the day before he just couldn't have been less enthused. Buying a ukulele for my mum, guitar for my nephew... all new to this incredible world of string instruments... If it had been me, I would have offered suggestions, helped out, maybe thrown in a couple of plectrums, even a re-string, but no, nothing of the kind. I remember 24 years ago (I'm 37 now) going into Dublin city to these music shops to stare at guitars, the people in the shops were so kind and accommodating, letting me try them out, offering tips and suggestions. I miss that.

This music shop has a lot of traditional Irish instruments which is an excellent selling point for it. My friend lectures music in the UK and he bought a bodhrán here, he knows his music, obviously! Waltons has a lot of the market so if you want to try somewhere else that is a little hidden away, gave this place a lash.

I can't stress how important it is for a music shop selling any type of instruments to create a space were sound quality sells the stock for them. Goodwin's beautifully stocked walls of Taylor, Martin and other accoustic treasures is double height to give these guitars room to sing. There is the smallest of sheet music racks with a scattering of bongos and tambourines, but really this shop is about the strings. And when I say the guys in here know their stuff, take it as rote. I had been stopping in and looking at the selection at a bunch of music stores around the city and Walton's has one of the best selections, especially for beginners. They have a few different entry-level guitars at a variety of prices, which is appreciated. I am very left handed, so I said that I was looking for a left-handed guitar. The guy assisting me was pretty great and told me that I should reconsider getting one and try to learn with a traditional guitar. He explained that it would be a lot easier for me to find better guitars as my skills improved. I really appreciated his sincerity, but felt that I needed to sleep on it and left empty-handed. Still, I had a really good shopping experience there. They have pretty much everything one could need; songbooks, instruments, accessories and even kids instruments too.
