Main complaints: Paternalistic, does not listen, rambles.
Details: I went to Dr. Nizam for two reasons. The first was to follow up after my CNM discovered I had post partum thyroiditis, and since I have some family history of thyroid issues I wanted to consult with someone more qualified to determine whether I should be doing any active management. I had a secondary request for some "just in case" testing that I wanted to order from the lab, knowing it was unlikely to turn up anything. The tests were in relation to breast milk under-supply, as there are a few conditions that can contribute and I wanted to confirm for sure that none were an issue for me.
The nurse came in and had a thorough and perfectly professional conversation with me about family history and the reasons behind the visit, but that all went out the window when Dr. Nizam came in. He was pleasant in introductions, but he is horribly dismissive, not engaged in real back-and-forth conversation, and it's hard to get him to let you talk for more than a couple sentences. I would get halfway into explaining what I wanted to look into, sometimes not even getting to the punchline, before Dr. Nizam was telling me, effectively, no. I barely got to explaining how I would like to do blood work to definitively rule out issues and he told me that they COULD run the blood work, but he knows how this will play out... I'll just see something in it that makes me worry over nothing so he would advise against it. He also made a comment that I didn't have any of the physical presentations for any of the issues I was asking to have tested (one was insulin resistance... which is not reliably determined by physical presentation, and I have a three generation history of non-weight related Type II diabetes on one side of the family). Though he claimed he would order all but one of the tests I was requesting, he wouldn't actually let me list off what I was asking for in any orderly fashion... just kind of nodded "Ok," and moved on. Since I hadn't noticed him actually note what I was asking for or willingly look at the list I had brought, I contacted the lab before bothering to go. He had only ordered the basic thyroid level checkup, and nothing else. It at least appears he lied to try to placate me. While I can respect a difference of opinion, that is not appropriate or professional.
Another fun one was how much time he spent talking into the computer. He sends you home with thorough speech-to-text notes, which is handy, but he seemed so worried about talking into the computer that he kind of forgot to actually talk to me on a couple of occasions. At one point, he actually took a note into the computer, "Discussed with patient the need to... [XYZ]" and that was the first I'd heard of what he was saying. He'd never "discussed" or even monologued about the subject - I had to find out what he had to tell me by listening to him take notes. Worst $220-ish dollars I've ever spent out-of-pocket - no tests, no nothing. He touched my neck to check my thyroid briefly. Otherwise, that's how much it cost to get talked at and shut down. Would not recommend. read more
