Stopped by Sotheby's to pick up an item I'd won at a recent auction. The auction house is extremely secure - we entered a small lobby and after going through one secure area, the receptionist directed the Mr & me to another small room that was electronic-keycard secured
They took my Passport & invoice details & left us locked in the waiting room, then came back to show me the piece I'd won to ensure it met my expectations - which is totally did of course!
Communication via both email and phone before our visit ( after the auction concluded and throughout the invoice / shipping quote / pickup options ) was prompt and they were kind enough to hold this piece for me until I was in Europe and could travel to Geneva to pick it up in person
Something to note - Switzerland is not part of the EU and they are more than happy to provide export papers for a VAT refund. The Mr & I drove to Geneva & it was no problem getting a Swiss Customs stamp at the Basel border. They take your paperwork right there & submit it for you. Can't get easier than this!
