Likewise, for the main, the fish of the day (e.g., a pan-fried cod fillet on my visit) was probably just as good as anything on the menu. The bread plate was like a starter since it included a buttery crème fraîche dip. Also, the suggested pairings enhanced each course so I highly suggest going that route if drinking wine. Note there is also a breakfast menu, a power lunch menu (which ends at 2PM), and a dinner menu, I believe. This is a great layover stop for higher end Mediterranean fare and Michelin-quality modern European fine dining. Prices are high however. If possible, get the 3-course business lunch for best value. FWIW, this fine dining spot was opened by two brothers who worked at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, therefore, the quality shined through.

Also interestingly to note, the decor is a bit profane in the dining room, so that is worth looking at. (Bluefin Tartare: B) - Their bluefin tartare is paired with avocado and ponzu, some classic flavors that work well. The presentation is also elegant. Unfortunately, the rice is a bit hard, which made this dish unpleasant but is otherwise tasty. (Pan Seared Duck: D) - While the duck was cooked nicely with a juicy pink center, I found the accompaniments to be unideal. The saurkraut is incredibly sour and overwhelms the dish, especially given the ratio of cabbage to duck. Furthermore, the dumplings simply tasted like a ball of flour, which was is unfavorable to consume. -- Food: -1 Presentation: +1 Price: E Atmosphere: E Service: +2 Menu: E Overall: +2 B Insta/Beli: @amei_eats

Many years ago, I went to law school with a lady from Germany. Post graduation, she moved back to…read moreGermany. When I visited Frankfurt, we got to hang out. She recommended Apfelwein Wagner so we stopped by for dinner. Ambiance (5/5): This is where this traditional German restaurant shines. The building in which it is housed has some awesome art on the exterior. Once you get inside, there's an open air area that makes you feel like you're outside but your'e actually inside. I recommend sitting here. It's lively and the design is awesome. In the back of the restaurant, you'll find an indoor area. Service (2.5/5): European service tends to be lackluster, but our service experience was a little below even that standard. We had to track our waiter down several times. Overall, quite slow. Drinks (4/5): If you can't tell by the name, Apfelwein Wagner specializes in apple wine. The largest size is served in beautiful handmade blue and white carafes. I personally am not a fan of apple wine, but it's definitely worth trying. Instead, I went with a beer or two. You can't go wrong with that in Germany. Food (3/5): They have several schnitzels (different meats) served with potatoes and green sauce (another Frankfurt specialty). You can't really mess this one up. Solid from the thin breaded cutlet to the potatoes and the green sauce made from a bunch of different herbs. My girlfriend at the other time, ordered some ribs and they were a big dud. They were rare, highly chewy, and highly fatty. She couldn't finish her meal and I don't blame her. So a bit of a hit and a miss. Apfelwein Wagner is a popular spot and I'm glad I checked it out. I'd come for the drinks and the ambiance. rather than the food though.

When we arrived for our reservation, the same staff remembered us and showed us to our table. We were a little early compared to the local peak dinner hour, but the room was hardly empty. We were excited that they had a non-alcoholic beer. We ordered two different schnitzels, Frankfurt style and hubertus style, and a side of spaetzel. The schnitzels were perfectly fried and delicious. The mushroom gravy was fantastic. The spaetzel was terrific, too. We shared an apple fritter. The custard sauce that accompany really made the dish a wonderful experience. Service was efficient. It slowed as the dining room filled. Getting the attention of servers for the bill did take a little longer. Otherwise, the service was very good.

Don't shame me for doing this but a colleague highly recommended the cheeseburger. So, I had to try it and it didn't disappoint. Big patty, tasty thick bacon, and great bun and sauce. Huge portion but thin pounded cut so it wasn't that big that you couldn't finish it. Potatoe/cucumber salad was delish. On the expensive side but worth a second visit.
