She was asking me for DMV paper I said I don't have it , then she started yelling at me saying that without the paper work she couldn't do it i told her that she can scan the Vin ( vehicle identity number ) right next to the door finally I came out and saying without the paper work she has to come out and write it down i got pissed and end up with Soquel Auto Repair which behind couple building away , the tech over there very nice and honest cheap n fast $40 out the door ! I went here because they say they are authorized to deal with gross polluters after o discovered my RV I bought had to be done at star smog and repair only . So I went in and asked for the results if the previous test done for the seller in January this year to discover they charged her 250 bucks for a diagnostic after she failed . The specific report stated it was the distributer vaccum lines and a intake manifold gasket leak at the 5th and 6th cylinder so I proceeded to hire my own mechanics to make repairs and they did all but the gasket . They fixed the plug wires and unstuck the distributer changed a plug and thermostat and redid the vaccuum lines which made it run much better . I took the RV back in on July 1st for a test expecting another fail and it failed What I was told after $90 bucks and an hour of testing that it needed 2 hours maybe 3 tops to tweak the vaccuum lines AND MAKE IT PASS so I went to my church for help because I had run out of money for more repairs at 100 an hour and when they contacted smog check they told the pastor it would cost $385 just to DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THEN THEY WOULD NEED PARTS AND LABOR TO REPAIR . which is not only completely different from what I was told but when you include my 90 and the 250 from 4 months ago that's a total of $725.00 and NOT A CENT WILL GO TOWARDS ACTUAL REPAIRS NOR GUARENTEE IT WILL PASS . I thankfully was also told to bring the RV in on the 10th at 8 am but when I confronted them about the discrepancy in what they told me vs what they told the pastor at church they said they couldn't get me in until next monday .which thankfully gave me time and sense to read these reviews. . I now understand what the plan is and I am not falling for it .I am contacting the church to stop the check for 385 and taking the rvso where else I already see if I allow these guys to work on the RV again I will regret it dearly and cannot take a chance I will lose my RV to tickets and I will not be held hostage to any more crooks who think because the customer is a woman she's automatically stupid and an easy mark they had every chance to show integrity in 3 conversations and we'll over 350 bucks for two visits to diagnose and they proved they intend to milk me for all they can. Do not go to these guys. They failed my 2005 mustang because they said it was missing a sticker and an EGR valve. The car is 100% stock so there was no way that was correct. Ford dealership confirmed no EGR is installed and doesn't exist! Still they charged me 41.75 for a failed test. Bottom line, sticker not required and because they are too lazy to look the car up in the system, they just fail it and bill you. I went over to Holiday Smog, passed the test and was on my way. Don't waste money on these guys. Go someplace else. read more

I've had all of my cars smogged here for the last several years. They are a Test Only station, so there is not a conflict of interest if you don't pass. There is a free retest available for 10 days so when you take your car elsewhere to be fixed you can have it certified again for free. I would give them 5 stars, but once when I took a car in with the engine warning light on (an automatic failure I later learned) they still charged me for a test. I went here after my batter was low and recharged it myself then I paid over 90.00 for them to tell me my monitors were off no pre warning about this at all they just took my money and said sorry go back on the freeway and drive awhile so the monitors reset .now they want another 50 dollars to recheck it .I wouldn't recommend this place for the poor or working person as they come up with ways to charge you you haven't even heard of before . read more

Can't explain other folks complaints about this place but I had a great experience. They close for lunch from 1-2 pm so I came in right at 2:00 and got out in 1/2 an hour. I had the enhanced check and passed with no problem. The place is always busy and I believe they take appointments. read more

Think again on these guys. My husband took our 79 Convert Bug here to get a smog. He asked that they run a pre-test - turns out they ran the test and it was labeled a gross polluter - they didn't even run the pre-test. It was to late to do anything about it because they had already sent the test. BTW, Ernies in Felton is a Certified Smog Station, guess what, the car cleared smog......uhmmm. If your car is questionable, look elsewhere for a smog station. We all know the smog laws are not about clean air. There are too many other sources of pollution that are being overlooked! I'll never go back to this con artist and will advise my friends to do the same! read more

Rip-off Alert!!! I brought my car in here 2 years ago and had no problems so I went back. This time they tested my car and failed me because my check engine light was on. They did not have the decency to warn me beforehand that I would not pass. They just wanted my $39.95. When I called them on it, the lady at the desk basically flat out ignored me. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Now they I see they do repairs. They wanted $95.00 to diagnose my engine light. HA! I took it to my mechanic and all he had to do was reset the code---for FREE! And they want another $19.95 to retest it within 10days. These guys are scammers. Do yourself a favor like I did and go to Bobby's Pit Stop. They smogged my car ok but they're kind of rude. There are a whole lot of signs in the waiting area explaining all the things they will call the Sheriff for. I don't know if this says more about the owners or the clientele but you could probably have a more pleasant experience elsewhere. My truck needed a smog, I called and made an appointment because they were cheaper than the rest in town. My truck failed the test and I was goint to have them repair it. The service writer told me about a state program that paid to fix my truck!! I sent in an application and they fixed it. The state payed them for the work. How sweet a program. Took my RV in for a smog check yesterday all I can say is FANTASTIC service. Easy in and out which is very important with a 30 foot motor home. Work was completed as stated in 45 minutes, took a little longer to get out since my battery died but they got me going. Confusion on the vin number on the rig vs on registration, they made the extra effort to straighten it out. Can't say enough about their service I will use them again for sure. read more

You owe it to yourself to read this if you are considering going here for service... I wouldn't give this shop any more business if they were the only place in town. I've taken all my cars here for about a decade, but I will never do so again. Everyone seems to be falling on hard times, but holding your customers over a barrel and shaking them down for an extra buck is downright shady. So, I took my van here to get a smog check- a vehicle that I keep in excellent condition. It passed all of the required tests. In the final minutes of the smog test, an employee called me over to check something out. The o-ring in the gas cap had a few cracks (even though it had passed a pressure test). None-the-less, because the o-ring in the gas cap showed wear, the vehicle could not be passed. I suggested they just replace the o-ring or use some gasket sealer, or I could even just go a couple doors down to Winchester Auto to get either an o-ring for 99 cents or a new cap for about $7. They said if I did that, they'd have to fail the vehicle (even though it passed ALL mechanical tests) and charge me twice (having to test it a second time). BUT, if I purchased one of THEIR gas caps for $25.95 they wouldn't have to do so, and I would be passed, free and clear. I asked the 'manager' to explain to me the logic in this, and all he did was go on about gas caps and hoses leaking carbon emissions and being 'gross polluters' (again, even though the vehicle had already passed the mechanical smog test, including a pressure test for the gas cap) and THEN he went on to say that he HAD A BUNCH OF GAS CAPS THAT WOULDN'T FIT ANY OTHER VEHICLES THAT HE COULDN'T GET RID OF... clearly, he was pawning one of these caps off on me. At this point, what is a customer to do? You already owe them money, and they have your keys and your vehicle. They've got the power and you've got nothing. EXCEPT this: this is just the reason why this sort of station is not supposed to sell such items. So, I am exercising my only rights as a consumer: (1) to NEVER grant such an establishment any further repeat business, (2) to warn others to do the same (not simply for my own benefit; if you value not being ripped off, this warning benefits you, too, and (3) to report this business to relevant licensing and consumer agencies. read more

This was my usual go-to place for a smog check. Not anymore. They instituted a 36% higher price for vehicles older than year 2000, which is ridiculous. I assume they still have to stick the measuring tool up the tailpipe just like any other car. Anyway, I paid $20 extra for the same service, and I won't be going back. They saved our Saturday. We took my daughter's car here for her smog check, and were told it would be 20 minutes. So we walked over to the shopping center, and lost track of time. Returned some hours later, and the place was closed! (It was Saturday at 1:10). As we lamented our next step, one of the workmen drove up to us, as he was leaving, and said he had stayed for us. There are some good reviews for this place, and I can understand that if you bring in a late model car, and you get in and out paying 43 bucks, sure you will be happy, but if your car is a little older you may not cruise through the process, and it's gonna cost you big time if you fail, first off they have you by the short hairs, and you are liable to pay way too much to replace a little vacuum hose, and you will pay again to retest it. They failed my Toyota truck because it had an oily stain where the carb manifold bolts to the engine, he said " that's a fuel leak" bullshit, they wanted an obscene amount to do work that didn't need doing, The stain was greasy oil, not fuel, I wiped it clean and took it to another place that passed it with no issues.. Well I've used this place in the past and it was fine from what I remember. Today I went in and was told the wait would be 40 minutes. No problem as I'm not a stress case about waiting and the time seemed reasonable. As 40 minutes went by I did not see my truck go into the shop. I watched someone who came in after me get their smog done sooner, so that confused me a little. In the end the wait was 70 minutes, with no acknowledgement that the time went over. SAVE YOUR MONEY. Do not go to this place. They failed my car and took almost 2 hours to tell me after they decided it was going to fail right at the start of the inspection because of some BS that my car had the wrong catalytic converters. The car has always passed with no issues at other smog facilities. In fact. the very next day I took my car to another smog facility and it passed with no issues. If this place wants to stay in business they should be a pass or don't pay facility. read more

I used this station because I live an easy walk away (three times in 29 years), but the convenience is not worth the sub-par service. The website shows a photo of the waiting room, but it doesn't really show how cramped and uncomfortable it is. And you WILL wait! There is a YELP photo of the prices; notice there is a "recheck" fee. Many other stations simply charge one fee for a "pass;" that is, don't pay until you pass, no recheck fee required. Each time, the cashier has not been pleasant, probably reflecting the angst of working is such a stark and customer unfriendly environment. read more

I had been going there for years, but recently had a very negative experience and would not go back. My '97 Honda has an engine check light that comes on occasionally, usually due to somebody not tightening the gas cap tight enough. Naively, I went in with the light on, not knowing they they won't pass a car with the light on. They knew when they drove it in that it wasn't going to pass, but instead of just telling me to get the light reset first, they went ahead and did the whole smog test, failed it for the light being on (it passed the actual smog test), and charged me the $48. When I asked why they did that, the woman as the counter was really nasty about it. So I went and got the light reset and then had to pay them another $28 for the retest. They jobbed me out of the $28, but lost a customer. Other places advertise "pass or free retest" but obviously these people don't have it. Beware. read more
