Sophie Valiant was a pioneer of cafe culture on the North Shore who used to drive her van to Cremorne Wharf every morning in the 90's for 5 years. With her espresso machine she would make coffee and sell her handmade muffins from a collapsible table.
The clientele was either commuters, tourists or for those who had time would sit on wooden stools and bask in the sun. Her clientele was consistent and the view being one of the best of Sydney Harbour. A permanent white box was then designed for her by Burton Katon Halliday where she was able to house a microwave, stove, fridge and her expresso machine and at that time the cafe was called See Sea.
The coffee beans are from boutique coffee house Roseberry Street in Manly Vale, Northern Beaches. A Cremorne walk along the harbour can end with a coffee and muffin consumed one of the little wooden chairs and tables, your walk can continue afterwards through to Mosman or Taronga Zoo. Sophie passed away a few years ago and a close friend appealed that this place be remembered as her own. It is now fittingly called Sophie's Place.
It is a must visit to Sydney, for the coffee and the views. Ask for Bernie if there is more than one person there but he by far is one of the best Baristas in this city. read more
