I love this school so much. I am very sad that my daughter is leaving. If they had an elementry school I would have kept her here. My older daughter was at Sonshine for 2 years and my youngest has been here for close to 3 years. Not once had I had any issues with this school. My oldest daughter was more than ready for TK. When she first entered in they tested her and informed me that she already knew everything that they teach in TK. My youngest had speech problems, but she very quickly graduated from speech therapy. I seen a big difference with her speech and social skills after a short period of time at Sonshine. She also had other struggles, but was recently tested and they said that she is average and above average going into TK. Not only did Sonshine give my kids the academic tools that they need to succeed, they also taught them discipline and morals. I feel like my daughter are very kind hearted people that care about other people. With all of the money that I have spent on my kids. I don't think you can put a price tag on what they have learned. I am grateful for everything that this school has done for my kids, it felt like I left them with a family member that really cared. Teachers are so caring and loving, the food (lunch) is freshly made on campus by the program directors husband, my kids are getting stellar education soaked with biblical principles, tuition is also EXTREMELY reasonable (not pricey like neighboring schools)... couldn't have asked more from this school. Both my girls love it at Sonshine. My eldest has gone for almost a year and a half. She started off in Miss Marcie's class, then moved to Miss Yvonne's class and is now in Miss Gina's class. She's learned a lot and made some great friends. My youngest has been in Miss Jennifer's class for about 6 months. She's learned about personal hygiene and cleaning up. We love Sonshine Preschool and couldn't have asked for a better school. Teachers are nurturing, kind, and care about every student. We love hearing our children sing songs they learned from school and bring home crafts and worksheets. They learn so much week to week - learning to read, write, do math, and about various themed subjects. My kids have made close friends and matured socially/emotionally. The classrooms are clean, large, and organized. There is a large outdoor enclosed playground and my kids love playing with friends outside. A couple times a year, the school puts on Christmas and spring programs where the kids sing and dance. The teachers pour their hearts into these children everyday and it shows. We are grateful that the school is open long hours 6:30am-6pm and provides snacks and lunch. Our family has been so blessed by this school! It really saddens me to write this review but I know I need to do this so this doesn't to happen to anyone else's precious babies. I went to tour this pre-school in late July and everything looked and seemed amazing. So I was really excited and hoping to get my son into this pre-school so that he could learn structure, rules and socialize with other kids as well. I signed up to be put on the waitlist and was super excited when karen the office manager called me to let me know they would be opening another classroom and my son would be able to start on august 22nd. My son finally started school and everyday at pickup I would talk to his teacher (ms laura) about how he was and for the first few weeks he would cry at nap time and during transitions. As time went on by maybe the 3rd week he was doing so much better and crying less. Now around the 1st or 2nd week of school (I can't quite remember which week but it was the beginning of when he started here) when I picked him up as I was talking to ms laura I noticed when she said bye to Wyatt and went to give him a hug he kind of flinched like he was scared but I just brushed it off & thought that was a bit odd. We were now in week 4 of my son being in this preschool and I picked him up and we were in the car heading home when I asked how his day was and what he did. Out of nowhere he said "ms laura hit me" his facial expression was also sad when he said that to me. As you can imagine I was worried, stressed and sad for my son. I went home and check his body and seen three little bruises on his back that looked like fingerprints. The next and his final week i informed his teacher of what he said and she said she didn't hit him and that she redirects when needed. I honestly wanted to believe her but deep down I knew something wasn't right. That day (Tuesday) we go home & after dinner i notice my son is blinking nonstop like 40 blinks per minute. I thought it was sand or something in his eye so I made an appt to see his dr and we went to the dr that Thursday. I mention to the dr that my son said his teacher hit him and his dr was very surprised and told me to be careful because when kids this little say something like this they are telling the truth. Also my son didn't have anything in his eye he developed a nervous tic from the stress of this school & I'm sure due to whatever was happening at this school when no one was around. My son never went back to school after his dr appt. I want to add that there was never any complaints from the teacher about my child, everyday I would ask how he was and she would say he was good, he would have trouble usually at nap time because he would cry a lot and wake up early. I feel like if he was giving them trouble they should have told me but the teacher never gave me any negative feedback about him which is why it was more shocking to me as well. They would say he was good ‍ I feel bad for putting my son in this situation, what I thought was going to be a positive experience for him ended up traumatizing him. It hurts so much to see your child go though this, im upset that Sonshine preschool ruined this experience for him and I. I'm upset that they would allow anyone to hurt my innocent & happy sweet little boy I hope this will save someone else. I recommend you all use the facility search bar on community care licensing website to search this preschool (facility # 191597606) and any other daycares/preschools you are interested in to see if they have any citations or complaints (all you need is their facility #). Had I known about that sooner I would have never taken my son here. UPDATE: 10/8/22 Thank you for responding. I just did a facility search and don't see a record of your preschool being visited as of yet... I would also like to add even if the investigation comes back unsubstantiated it doesn't mean what my child said wasn't happening it simply means he's too small to explain hisself, which is an advantage to you guys. My son had an amazing time at Sonshine from the beginning of 2021 until the summer of 2022. The tuition is quite affordable considering all that they provide, and their extended hours were convenient for our family. One of the things I appreciated was that they included healthy lunches that were far better than what public schools offer. All the teachers I encountered were kind and actively engaged with the kids. They only used TV during morning group activities, such as song and dance time, exercise, and religious studies. Even after school, the teachers would play games, organize activities, and tell stories to keep the children entertained. I must mention his teacher, Ms. Gina, who was truly exceptional. My son, who could be stubborn, disruptive, and energetic, struggled with managing his emotions. Ms. Gina displayed a perfect balance of understanding, patience, and authority. She established clear boundaries and created a nurturing learning environment. She recognized my son's potential and intelligence and would provide him with extra worksheets and activities when he finished his work quickly. I observed significant growth in both his academic and behavioral development. He learned to regulate his emotions better and interact more positively with others. By the time he entered Kindergarten, he was reading and understanding phonics at an advanced level compared to his peers. A pleasant surprise for me was the religious aspect. Although I am not an active Christian, I appreciated that my son came home singing religious songs that brought back memories from my own childhood. My daughter had an amazing time at Sonshine! She was there for year and half and till this day, she still asks about her "teacher Lynda". My daughter moved to a different school and we believe she transitioned very well because of her time at Sonshine! They also helped potty trained her and we appreciated all the updates they provided. This is the spot assigned to our area for Voting Day every two years! Very close to home and I gotta give props to all the Voting day polling place workers. Now that's commitment! Cool way to serve your community! As far as the Pre-school experience goes, I was grateful to have this place work out for my youngest one - we had gone to three other day-care preschools in the area and he finally settled down in this location. No crying jags, no "mommy don't leave" screaming guilt trips. I felt that my child was safe in this place. The place is clean and has enough adults supervising children and teaching them too. Trust is paramount in finding child care, and I trust this place. Bonus: They host a Fall festival (costumes welcome but no monster or devil ones please). There is also Christmas Holiday program with all the kids in it. Cuteness overload - look out for the mom or dad pushing you out of their way to film their kid. This is also a church that is shared by at least one English, one Korean-speaking and one Spanish speaking congregation. (Seems non-denominational, Bible based) Sundays seem really busy here and I'm happy about that. read more

We love Sonshine preschool! My 2 daughters have attend the last 2.5 years. My oldest is now in kindergarten but started in the 3 years room with miss Patty and then continued on until summer before kindergarten with 2 other teachers. My middle child currently attends the three year old room and has attended since she was 20 months old and has had the please of being taught and guided by 3 teachers so far also. We have nothing but positive things to say about this school and the teachers. My daughters came home excited to share everything they learned. From songs for their program to eating their veggies to learning how to trace, count and so much more. The staff here goes above and beyond for their student friends and I can see that reflected on my girls at home. They are learning so much and my oldest was ready and prepared for kindergarten! The teachers have been so friendly and you can tell Sonshine preschool feels like a giant family. The care and compassion from these teachers and the education they provide is what drew us to attend and continue to attend every new year. I hope this school has changed directions or staff...I remember as a child I attended here many years ago in the mid 2000s . I remember being yelled at for things I never did, for example not knowing how to write my name IN PRE SCHOOL. The teachers were so different when parents were dropping us off of course . I admit it; I am that neurotic mother who checked out 10+ preschools before choosing Sonshine Preschool. I can't even begin to tell you what I've seen at many other preschools. However, I can tell you in the city of Cerritos there are probably three really decent/great preschools and Sonshine preschool is most definitely at the top. What I looked for: -up to date academics: yes -easy transition to Kindergarten: yes -hw: yes daily: age appropriate good preparedness for Kinder -classrooms: cheerful, lots to do, private bathrooms per classroom (I believe) -great director/principal: yes -receptive and respectful administrative staff (1): yes -loving teachers: yes! -staff happiness: yes -meals: health-ish but kid friendly and prepared at school -playground: large, small play houses, few slides, swing set, toys and a vegetable garden across the playground. My only concern, not much shade. They have some canopies and kids play indoors on hot days (90's) -parking lot: large and private Even from my first contact Miss Karen was at work in the front office; a one woman working machine. She is one busy woman manning the phones, taking payments, following up on questions, giving tours and I've even seen her tenderly be the school nurse. Despite how busy she always is, she always had time for me. Hard working woman. Director/ manager- I've only had a handful of interactions with her: nice woman, personable, always said hello, really cares about kids and parents. Teachers- Over the 1.7 years (2 summers and 1 school year) we had about 6-7 teachers including substitute teachers. There are 2 teachers per class. All wonderful: kind, loving, genuinely care, good boundaries, even when they have to discipline I've witnessed teachers do it respectfully. Most of the teachers have been here a long time and they are all very comfortable in their role; they've seen it all. Campus- large and gated, with new security gate (password needed.) Chapel on site. Lastly, only one of two schools that have a 1/2 day program or tues/thurs schedule. Great teachers, director, administrative staff, good academics, and safe school made it a great choice for my little one. My little one was so happy here and so were we! So happy to be sending my son here. I researched several preschools before enrolling my son here, and am so happy with my choice. The teachers are all so caring of all the children. My son is learning so much, enjoys going to school and I enjoy taking him there. I feel confident that my son is in a safe and caring environment. My son attended the twice a week program for 3 year olds and will attend the 3x a week program for Pre-K in the fall. Our then 2.5 boy was the last one to attend the youngest class, I really believe it is God will for him to be able to get the last spot. My little girl has been attending Sonshine Preschool full time program (Fall, Winter and Summer sessions) over the past two years, since she was two and half. Experience has been wonderful! She enjoys every teacher she has had, from Ms. Jennifer, to Ms. Jenny, Ms. Marcy, Ms. Lynda, Ms. Yvonne, and Ms. Susan. My little girl got potty trained by Ms. Jennifer within the first couple of weeks of starting the program. She has started learning her #s, ABCs, singing, dancing, and praying! Most importantly, the encouraging environment to socialize with other kids. We like the program in that the day typically starts with teaching in the morning, lunch is provided followed by nap time and play time, singing, etc in the afternoon. The playground is a good size (various slides, swings, etc) and good selection of toys inside classrooms. Snacks are also provided during the day by the school. Lunch food is different each day, and is healthy, nutritious, and yummy (my little girl loves the variety and looks forward to eating not only the main course but also the fruit/veggies on the side). We also appreciate that the school offers various events throughout the year, such as country fair (in lieu of celebrating Halloween), pancake breakfast, ice cream social, Thanksgiving lunch, Christmas party, Valentine's day party, etc. It's a great way to get the kids to understand the meaning of the various holidays. There are also Christmas programs and end-of-the-year programs performed by all the students. The teaching materials that we got back every day / week were informative of our little girl's current state of learning how to write, read, color, creative arts, etc. We enjoy getting ornaments and decorations for special occasions such as Christmas, other's Day, Father's Day with our little girl's artwork or picture on them.
