I knew Mr. Walker at Cerritos High was biased but I didn't know he was homophobic as well. I just heard that unfortunately Mr. Walker didn't want their openly gay film teacher to come back next year because he and other older teachers and parents say his lifestyle isn't the "Cerritos way". School started almost a month ago...that's when I turned in all the required papers so I can transfer my child to LBUSD.....I'm still waiting. So unprofessional telling me that people wait 3 weeks or more just for a inter district transfer be approved. Are you kidding me? My child can already be accepted to the LBUSD school we chose because I spoke to that principal but since they won't release him I can't. I've been calling them and I keep getting the same excuse that either the person signing is in a "meeting" or he's signing a lot of it... we'll call you. Really???? This district gives an air like we should be honored to be here...very pretentious. Update: I requested the transfer in the beginning of the school year which is a little over a month ago. Now October 9. Still no "call" from the great ABCUSD. I just want to mention that I was not rude to the employees and they were not either....I don't want you to think they're doing this on purpose. I have a autistic child and there infant center has a really good class for them. My child has learned alot from the class. The staff is really nice and friendly, they are so helpful on there facts. This is the 1st autistic child we have in the family and they helped out alot. Not only with my child but with information on what to do at home and other programs to do. read more

The ABC unified school district including upper management, supervisors, and managers is at its best...Very Unprofessional. The upper management are not service based and do not care about special needs children or children that need extra help. I have been trying to get into contact with some supervisors and other "higher ups" at ABC over the last few months and they have their assistants do the dirty work. They always say they will have their supervisors call me back but until this day, has not happened. They are told to lie and say they are always in meetings when I try to get someone on the line.They don't like confrontation or discussions. It is only their way or the highway. I hope the Superintendent is privy to this and what is going on in the school district and if this is the ONLY way I will get a call back, so be it!!! This is their core value/belief: All students, regardless of socio-economic status, have the capacity to be high achievers and it is our responsibility to ensure their success. (this is not true because I am getting the run- around constantly. My child deserves to be helped) This is what they are trying to accomplish:High expectations for academic, professional, and personal behavior will be held for all students, staff, parents, and teachers. (I was treated unfairly and harassed) This is their vision:We believe people are the cornerstone of our district and students are the reason we are here (this is not true, again...why has no one called me back?) Thank you to the parents that have reached out, I know it's not an easy topic. Appears Kennedy staff is trigger happy when it comes to calling child protective services. I would urge parents who have fallen victim to make your voices heard. You can file a complaint against an educator with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. All I can say is the staff here is under direction of its manager or in this case a (principal) and that "manager" has upper management or in this case the (district). So it all starts somewhere. It is unfortunate because it is not their kids they affect with their decisions. They go home unaffected after their 8 hours are put in. I was recently hired at ABC school district, coincidentally the next day I received a letter stating they rescinded their job offer. The School District itself is great, The schools within the district all achieve high State ratings and all the teachers I have met through the years have been awesume. Long story short, my daughter attended Stowers Elementary School many years ago as she won a spot in the lottery. She was able to attend Stowers Elementary from kindergarten to 6th grade. She loved it and always participated in school activities in every grade. During this time, for several years, my spouse started working at the school as a morning crossing guard and lunch supervisor. She was committed to helping out at this school. Even when the women in the front office asked her for help, she would stay and help them out on her own time with no compensation. These women tended to forget that they should be nice to everyone all the time and not just when they needed something. Although I told her not to spend her free time there helping them, she would. When my daughter graduated from 6th grade, she was able to attend Carmenita Middle School, once again on a permit. Her number was something over 130, so 130 students in front of her were also able to attend Carmenita Middle School on permits. I would assume with this many permits granted, it didn't affect the students who actually lived in the area. So, after 26 years of marriage, my spouse and I separated. She chose to rent a room in a house in Cerritos that a family friend bought, so that her daughter's could attend the ABC Unified School District. This would not only in turn help out our daughter who was already allowed to attend the school district, but also help our friend maintain their mortgage. When my spouse attempted to change her address to the Cerritos address (which stretched into a 3 day affair since the clerk at Carmenita Middle School kept requiring different items), the clerk at Carmenita Middle School finally became agitated and told my spouse that the house was registered to other school district students. My spouse said that was true, but she was renting a room there and had her CDL and a utility bill with the Cerritos address on it. The clerk then started saying she couldn't assist my spouse as she didn't believe her and was going to turn the matter over to the district. This was January 25, 2018. At the close of this encounter, the clerk said if the district finds proof that they don't live in Cerritos, my daughter will get kicked out of school (after 8 years being an ABC student). Today, January 26, 2018, a representative from the district went to the Cerritos house looking for my daughter, unfortunately it was a district middle 'school free day' and the kids were at Knott's Berry Farm. While the rep wasn't directly rude, he did make comments such as "If she was here right now, I could close this case, now I gotta come back in the evening or morning." "If I can prove she doesn't live here, she will get removed from the school." "I have connections with the sheriff's department, if I have to I will come back with them to see what bed she is sleeping in." Is this all unbelievable or what? This is bordering harassment from the school district's secret police. A kid with good grades for 8 years being threatened and potentially becoming traumatized by being kicked out of school simply because she wants a good education. This school may appear to be a great institution, but there is evil behind their closed doors. read more

I bet you will agree with me the 'Don't care attitude' of this school district. This attitude is possible for them because of more and more parents WANTING to get into their high rated schools. High rated schools as I was reading in other forums, "do you think that these schools have super good grades/percentages are due to highly qualified teachers?" Answer is NO, its again the kids are sent to tutoring centers after school to meet the demand around. Most parents want to get their children to this district so as they have a chance to qualify for Whitney school, which the school district takes advantage to boss on and stay unapproachable. Their school of choice which they claim to be lottery based, its intolerable where they put tons to "Waitlist" and that NEVER progress after 2days of announcing result of the lottery. Are they trying to party on parents feelings and stress to not have the courtesy to let everyone waiting know what's happening between May 4th to May 31st after lottery announcement on May 1st (this itself is long wait from March 1st). The district proclaim that employee (only working in ABC school as permanent employee) and address verification are taken care which is in the application submitted, but I have seen case where this is on a toss.. ABC school district - Stay warned! you may not be able to sustain your dignity longer with the kind of ill-treatment that you are imposing with emotions of Parents! read more

This is for whoever is in charge of scheduling back to school nights, fyi there are a lot of weird parents like myself that have a kid in elementary school and another kid in high school as well, as a parent I would appreciate if I didn't have to choose which one to attend (same day/time both) because of your poor scheduling, can't be that hard to coordinate schools in the same school district ..do you have kids?, is one more important than the other? ..Not my case, thanks. read more

Everything these other parents stated is true. My daughter attended from elementary to high school and I had to pull her out in junior high and home school her myself, because lack of oversight at these school. She had an undiagnosed learning disability for years and instead of classifying it and getting her help they were giving us the excuses and run-around because I didn't understand procedures for kids with disabilities. That's why I pulled her out and thank the Lord for CAVA, because they pin-pointed the problem and got her the extra help and government assistance help she needed. I wasted so much money in ABC unified on their "expert" recommendation of tutoring programs. When I put her back into high school she was in Pre-Algebra math. By the time she graduated she had slid to Basic Low Level Math. The elementary teachers were great, but junior high and high school teachers are a waste of breathing space. The know nothing and ride high on the fact that the district is a number 1 school. Reality is most of the kids parents have put them in outside tutoring for years and the kids excel in themselves. So the teachers don't have to really teach, the kids are self taught. One teacher let the class watch a movie as their mid-term final. I had to endure for 12 agonizing years and if I hadn't intervened and taught my daughter myself (for several of them) she would have been able to graduate let alone attending college today: Horrible, Worthless & Useless is how I describe ABC-USD and good riddance. Our son who just turned 5yrs old will never attend ABC. I have him in private school where I KNOW they actually care about the kids! Do yourself a favor, stay clear of these pompous a** school district. read more
