Our second child though transferred to Da Vinci Tree Academy from a TUSD school. I wish we had enrolled him at Da Vinci instead of a TUSD school because our son got bullied so much he would literally fight us every morning to go to school and would cry and complain when we picked him up from school, saying it's our fault he's even going to school. The TUSD administration were of no help and our complaints fell on deaf ears, so we decided to move to Da Vinci so our son can stay with her older sister. The first grade teacher back then was Ms. Hayde and she showed our son that not all teachers are alike and she brought our son's interest in learning back. For our third child, we straight up enrolled her at Da Vinci and her teacher Mr. Adam was the BOMB! My daughter is really super talkative and would often just ignore her school work to learn, but Mr. Adam had done some serious change in our daughter and she was so excited to learn and go to school. I can't explain how wonderful it is to be a part of the school because the teachers and staff are really caring and would go out of their way to know the students and their parents. I would often pick up our kids and you'd see how all the kids would just go up and hug the teachers before leaving the school, even if they are the front staff members. The students in the school aren't just a number, but family. We once went to a school fundraising event at Peter Piper Pizza and it's hilarious how all these kids from different grades would just greet each other and hang out and the staff would really be up there talking to us parents and it's so heartwarming for us parents that the school staff really be warm and kind even outside the school. I have two more kids waiting to attend Da Vinci.. I guess you can say all my kid are Da Vinci Tree Academy kids! :)

So far so good. Our kinder experience at Basis Tucson Primary has been a lot better than our prek…read moreexperience at Leman Academy. The school strongly emphasizes academics and kids are given letter/percentage grades like high schools do. Yes there's pressure but nothing we can't handle so far. My complaints: 1. De-prioritization of physical activity. You have to put your child in an after school club (more money) for dance, bowling, and other movement-based activities. I had the opportunity to volunteer to help with hot lunch once. I learned a lot. Like just how short lunch is; it explained why my daughter was hungry but had uneaten food in her lunch last semester. Volunteering has opened my eyes and I started packing her lunches a little differently 2. It's a charter school so they have to raise money. However, the fundraiser updates in the app are ridiculous. Class vs class, grade vs grade. Everyone hurry and donate before the deadline...use the AZ tax credit...oh the deadline has been extended so you can donate more (no surprise) None of the issues I mentioned are major to me. Why? Because my kindergartener is reading, can read digital and analog clocks, she can add double-digit numbers, etc but her friends who are in 1st and 2nd grade in TUSD schools aren't there yet. The academic advantage Basis provides is unparalleled without attending an expensive private school But there are pros and cons to each school and I've included a couple for potential parents considering the school

I just had a concerning conversation with her regarding her science class today. There was a movie…read moreshowed and she expressed that she was very uncomfortable and the teacher quickly dismissed her and forced her to watch this video or go the principal's office. Now this sounds a lot like bullying to me from the teachers to student. If a student concerns, uncomfortable, and would like to leave the room they should, am I wrong? Now this has been going on all year and I've been quiet about it. I'm not pleased with the staff nor the faculty on how they pursue my daughter into wanting her to change instead of developing her strengths the way that needs to be done and I feel really awful and shameful for bringing her to the school. I will never recommend Basis. I hope you guys change the way that you view your students they are not robots. They are human beings and if they feel uneasy about a situation, they have the right to speak up.

Do not send your children to this horrid school. Let me review our 3 years with Alice Vail Middle…read moreSchool. My eldest daughter was in the full GATE program. This was the closest middle school that had the program. (TUSD puts the GATE program in the lowest scoring schools in an attempt raise the scores.) The first 2 years weren't that bad, but the principle quit in protest after they stripped away all of the electives. The new principle made a bad school even worse. My daughter was bullied constantly, as were her fellow GATE friends. We received no help from the school, the counselors were cut along with the electives, and counseled our daughter ourselves. My daughter and her friends had to eat outside because there was no seating in the cafeteria. Any open seats were banned from them by the little brats sitting there. Instead of chastising that behavior, the "monitor" yelled at my daughter and her friends for eating outside! What happened to teachers monitoring the cafeteria? We didn't have "monitors" when I was in middle school, we had teachers, and this kind of nonsense never happened. I didn't grow up in a small town either, I grew up in Houston, Texas. The "monitors" pick on the good kids and do no nothing at all to the students who are causing the problems. TUSD can't afford real books, but we can pay for these useless "monitors"? When we attended my daughter's concerts, we were treated horribly and spoken to like dirt by the "monitor", so my daughter was spot on in her complaints. What a waste of our tax dollars. I have more, one day my husband had car trouble on his way to pick up our daughter. She didn't have her phone that day, so she went to the office to call home. The phones had been shut off for the day! Not one person offered their cell phone. My daughter was then sent outside while the office staff closed up and left. They left a young girl, on her own, outside! Our tax dollars are paying for this, ladies and gentlemen. Luckily, my husband got the car working and was there soon after she was kicked out from the building. That behavior is absolutely disgraceful from people who are supposed to be looking out for our children. If anything had happened to her, we would have filed a lawsuit that would have completely bankrupted TUSD. I can't express my outrage enough about this incident. As for the teachers, we had to stay on top of her grades constantly. We lived on the TUSD Stats page. I can't count how many wrong grades were entered or how many were overlooked. Aside from that, it's a good thing that my husband and I are educated, because we pretty much taught her throughout middle school. Now for orchestra. The beloved teacher passed away at the beginning of my daughter's 8th grade year. They replaced him with someone who cannot play any string instrument. Seriously, they have someone teaching orchestra who can't play any of the instruments! Well, he started a glee club which seems to be his only interest, so I guess that makes him an expert on all things musical. At the end of the school year, the Asian, African American and Hispanic kids who had done well were given certificates for their accomplishments. The certificates were worded specifically concerning their race. The other students who excelled got nothing. Racism, perhaps? Honestly, I could go on and on, but hopefully you've got the message. ETA: I received a message from a supposed former student, defending the school and attempting to refute my review. It's quite odd that I was the first reviewer of Alice Vail in the several years of Yelp Tucson and somehow a former student located my review and became so offended. All I can say is that I've written the absolute truth and I stand by every word. Do not send your children to this school.
