I didn't have the original piece, told him I wasn't an artist and didn't feel as if I could draw what I wanted. He quickly sketched out what he thought I was looking for, gave me a time line and a general price which would be determined by how much time it took him to produce my piece from scratch. Not only did he meet his timeline (although I didn't impose one on him) but he also kept the price down. I'm so very happy to have what he created from scratch. My decanter is displayed with pride and I'll always remember this couple when I see it on the bar.

Jennifer Joyce's studio has a storefront on Pico with a cool little gallery that you enter through on your way into the studio. She has a lot of her own work here which is great; this is a real artists' studio and not some soul-less color-me-mine! The classes are small, and kids are encouraged to explore their own interests. I love that the clay and tools are provided at the studio, and included in the price of the class! Overall, Jennifer has a fantastic little studio with a really positive feel.

Prices are on par with handmade glass and specialty art in the area. Friendly owner and wishing them the best!

The only thing that bothered me is their irrational decision-making process. The acoustics in the building are so atrocious that, if there's music in one event room, people can't hear the speaker or each other in the other gathering room. So I found some clean, undamaged foam boards and asked whether they'd like them. They said yes, and I brought them in to cover the glass door to one of the rooms. Then someone they'd known longer came along and opined that SEEING styrofoam would cause people to buy it, and they threw it into the dumpster. So now they still have rotten sound, and those foam boards will be leaching toxins into the ground until Earth falls back into the sun.

Mixed Greens is a fantastic preschool. The director Heather is one of those impressive people that…read morenot only creates the best environment a child could have the pleasure of existing in while at school, but she is also able to communicate and empathize with parents (no small feat). The 12 child / 4 teacher setup at the Hoen campus is pretty special, especially during Covid times. We made the decision to send our 4 year old back to school despite the risks of the virus, it was initially a hard choice to make, but knowing the numbers and the care that the school is taking to keep all the kids healthy. Heather has been incredibly thorough in not only creating a medically advised Covid protocol, she has also sent emails out answering all the questions parents have sent in, AND kept herself available to field others via email and phone. She has been just as careful in handling the air quality issues we have been dealing with (2020, you can just cool it now). I am blown away at the amount of time she spends communicating with parents about what's going on, what to expect, and how their kids are doing on a daily basis. Our son loves the school and feels very at ease there. After his first day when I was picking him up he was sad to leave and said, "Mama, can I come back here?" At his previous preschool he was always sad getting dropped off in the morning and it was brutal, so this was music to my ears. Then that same night as he was drifting off to sleep he said, "Mama, I love my new school." Totally unprompted on both accounts! We had looked at Mixed Greens online when he was just a baby, but never got around to going to an open house, and we missed the window to get him on the list. By a few strokes of luck we finally got a spot now that he's four, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have it. I know Mixed Greens (both campuses) on average has a two year waiting list, so don't dilly dally, go to an open house and get your kid in the list!!

The owner/operator, Heather, is on her game. It is obvious as soon as you meet her that this is her life's work. The school runs more professionally than most schools I've seen. The school embodies Heather's vision that children learn through play, art, gardening, and music. Experts agree that early education has the most impact on a child's life when the days are filled with ample opportunities for young children to use and hear complex, interactive language; the curriculum supports a wide range of school-readiness goals that include social and emotional skills and active learning; the school encourages meaningful family involvement; and they have knowledgeable and well-qualified teachers. This is basically a description of Mixed Greens! Therefore, we are very thankful to be a part of the Mixed Greens family!
