I called the non-emergency line last night driving from San Francisco to Bodega Bay. At the point we contacted them we were sitting at the corner of Shoreline Hwy (street label) and Valley Ford Rd. It was nice to be answered and the person who answered was pleasant enough, but was 1) condescending, and 2) not helpful. Condescending "Hwy 1 is a long highway, I need more information." (doh!) Not helpful "we can't tell you where the flooding is, really." We tried to explain that one flood detour at Bloomfield had led to this corner where to the left and the right were closures. So people (more than just me, maybe 6 or so cars) were taking the long detour only to have to turn around and go BACK to the original point of detour and figure out on their own that the best route to Bodega Bay was to head up Bloomfield to Sebastopol, then cross over from there back to HWY 1, or Rte 1 as https://roadclosures-sonomacounty.hub.arcgis.com/ labels it on their map. The point is that there was no desire to help. It was clear that something was going on because we did see an emergency vehicle with lights flashing head towards Valley Ford past the closure and towards the flooding. The "detour" led us to a dead end. I think the person was right in saying "we do not have real time information" (I paraphrase) but they could have been more helpful and said, "head to higher ground like Sebastopol, then try that way, depending on flooding you may encounter". read more

I can't speak for the whole department. But the motorcycle officer I met who greeted our vintage Vespa group on Saturday at Sonoma Square was nice and very professional. And I say this because a good portion of being a good police officer is people skills. He is a good representation of The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. Keep up of the good work! read more

The county Sheriff is not interested in the life experience of residents of Northwood. Despite county ordinances about amplified sound, they have chosen not to support the community with the parameters of the ordinance. A party at Casa Secoya has music with percussion so loud that while I am a mile away, I can feel and hear in my home. It started at 6pm and is still ongoing at 10:41 pm. I have called the hotel 3 times and finally the Sheriffs office 2 times. The hotel said that they have had complaints from other home owners and the sheriff's office said that a deputy was dispatched and gave the party until 11pm. This is outside the county ordinance limitations and we as a voting community would like to know the reason for this. Here is the ordinance information: Sonoma County does have a narrowly drafted "Noise Ordinance" still on the books, dating back to 1992 (Ordinance 4585 and Ordinance 4606) which addresses "Disturbing the Peace". Worst fire in CA history and this department is out there risking their lives to keep us safe from the fire and looters. I cannot express enough love for all emergency crews involved during this dreadful time. I wish all involved whether emergency crew or a regular citizen a safe passage to the end of this horrible time. Yes, this review doesn't exactly talk about the day in and day out activities of this department, but everyone reading this should understand that each employee of this wonderful crew have huge hearts, some leaving their families to protect others they do not even know. Didn't get the officer's name, but he was most helpful. I was in car hell on a very stormy day. Desperately needing a tow (car was parked on a red curb) and not getting adequate help from AAA, I called the Sheriff's office. The gentlemen at the dispatch desk took care of us, called a tow company and we were on our way! read more

Approached Sheriff's Office to evict a non-TPA tenant which they are supposed to do but will not, requiring a judges order or unlawful detainer. Problem is unlawful detainer forms assume your sheriffs office follow the law and evict non-TPA tenants. I'm on my 3rd attempt, getting tossed on demurrer because the forms and process are not designed for a sheriff who won't do his job. Maybe our next sheriff will do his job! read more

Tortured me and almost killed me for no reason. Now I have persistent brain damage. It happened right under a camera. They lied about my behavior and about what they did, but it happened in front of witnesses and under a camera. The independent records contradict their statements and corroborate my statements. Mark Essick, who was captain of internal affairs at the time, refused to allow me to submit an "official complaint in writing" (he said "we don't do that, why don't you tell me what happened", and said the cameras "can't record" and "don't have recording technology installed". Kara Abelson and Michael King also stated that the cameras "couldn't record", and "no cameras capable of recording existed in the vicinity". The Sonoma County Bar Association wouldn't even refer me to any lawyers because "the lawyers in Sonoma County are close knit", and I couldn't get a lawyer. I filed a claim with the County, and the County had me talk to Internal Affairs. Internal Affairs (Andrew Cash) interrogated me for over an hour, and he didn't dispute what happened. The new captain of internal affairs at that time, Eddie Engram, exonerated the officers. When I finally got to the Discovery phase of the lawsuit, the County's story changed to the cameras were capable of recording, but they can't be expected to use the recording function, because tasks have to be performed to start the recording function. A bystander witness said he saw the deputy's arm wrapped around my neck (causing hypoxia and likely a small rupture of the artery in my neck causing a blood clot accounting for the "organic brain injury" I was diagnosed with and the cognitive impairment that persists to this day). One of the other Sheriff's Office employees who witnessed it said in her report to Internal Affairs that I "was not resisting". i was polite and cooperative, and I had been arrested falsely over a misunderstanding. Sonoma County Legal Counsel (Michel King, supervised by Josh Myers) lied his ass off at the trial, and in every single legal document he filed, and at every hearing he spoke for more than 30 seconds at, and violated pretty much every law and rule of court that was applicable, including the government code, penal code, california constitution, federal penal code, federal civil code, and the federal constitution. They appropriated over one million dollars in public funding to defend the lawsuit. read more

I have never had a bad experience talking with ANYONE from the MADF or Sheriff's dept...On the contrary, every person is cordial, kind, helpful and a REAL peace officer!! I personally, almost pay homage to our local police Dept. Thank God we will not fall for the crazy "defund" agenda. Santa Rosa is very fortunate to have such a good and decent police force. On the other hand, the DA's are a different story....callous, cold, indifferent and very, very pompous and arrogant..:(( all about the "kill". read more

I am a bit behind in my Yelp, but back during the week of Thanksgiving in 2016 I had a very, very strange incident that involved two horses and a very odd older woman. Officer Fomasi (spelling?) was a wonderful help. He listened, followed through with everything he stated he would do, he helped me figure out a plan of action and was very nice about it. I live in West Sonoma County where there are no police, but lots of criminals. We are so blessed to have an amazing Sheriff's Department that quickly responds to calls and cares about the law abiding citizens. Yesterday they arrested a burglar in my neighborhood with 7 felonies. He'll be out again next week, but at least the Sheriff's Department did what they could. read more

Very wonderful, concerned deputy B Hensen. On Saturday Dec 28, 2013, my mother tipped her motorized scooter over in a parking lot. Dep Hensen was driving by and saw her fall and came back to help. I did not even realize he was driving by until I looked up and he was standing beside us offerring assistance. Although she did not want medical attention, he offerred (actually tried really hard to get her to let him call paramedics) and stayed with us until she felt able to ride her scooter home. I can't believe the crass people that work for the Sheriff's Dept. Two of them showed up at my residence today, one chomping on gum. I opened the window and asked them what they wanted. They started to question me about my tenants, sneering now and then. I gave then honest information. They corralled my male tenant and entered his residence accusing me behind my back of calling him to warn him they were there. I had not. They then proceeded to poke around his unit, opening my entrance and my garage entrance without permission. These jerks need some crime to pursue instead of harrassing innocent people. The last time I called the Sheriff's Department because thieves were stealing lumber from my driveway, they sent someone named Fletcher out. Fletcher proceeded to befriend and assist the thieves and treated me like I was a problem. The thieves got away with $500 worth of lumber and Fletcher was nasty to me. Rumor has it this is typical for Fletcher. No wonder people buy guns and take care of their business themselves. Are there any honest helpful cops left? Not many probably. read more

I heard someone prowling around my back yard. They went as far as to try to open the door to my house, which was locked. I have just recently moved here and I was thinking that this was very unusual. I am not the type to call the police over anything, unless I think it is a big deal. It was late at night and there was no moon period; so the backyard was blindingly dark. Although I did not call when this first occurred because I was hoping whoever was trying to get in, could clearly see that I was awake and aware of their presence. Almost an hour went by and I heard another person in the backyard (but it was probably the same person). It was not a deer or a wild bore, it was human, or so I would guess. At any rate, it was very late and I was very tired, and I called the Sonoma County Sheriffs Office and they came right out. I was kind of embarrassed to call them, but they were very thorough in checking out the back of the house and all around, even the surrounding places in the neighborhood. The officers were friendly as was the operators that I spoke to. This is the best of the best of Sheriffs Offices. Thank you Sonoma County Sheriffs for making this place feel safe and feeling like home. read more

I recently had some problems with a neighbor, yelling, screaming,potential domestic violence issues, driving too fast on a shared driveway. I contacted Sonoma county sheriff's office, and they dispatched an officer. After they spoke to me, they then went and spoke to the neighbors. Initially no actual laws had been broken, but a deputy told me that these types of problems typically escalate into worse behavior. He was right! Less than a month later, I heard one of the couple loudly yelling to the other " give me back my gun!" well that got 911 dialed quickly, and several deputies arrived promptly. A Felon in possession of a firearm, and other violations........in 6 years time, I've had direct contact with Sheriff's Dept personnel a total of three times, twice for the problem neighbor, and once when I heard yelling and screaming from what sounded like a person in distress somewhere in the immediate neighborhood. Two of the three times, I felt that the situation called for a 911 call, and both times one or more deputies responded quickly. This is what I expect for my tax dollars, and the deputies were always totally professional and helpful. Ideally you live in an area and never need emergency services, but I'm glad to be in the service area of this fine Dept. read more
