So here I was - a California wine geek looking for a nice bottle of wine in...Cave City Kentucky???…read more To be honest, I would have been happy with just about anything. The first store had no wine at all and directed me to this place. So we took the advice and came here fearing the worst. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to walk in and be greeted by a wonderful person named Stacy. She told me where the wine was and MAN, WAS I SURPRISED! They had one of our favorite Sauvignon Blanc's (Oyster Bay). The fact is they have a very impressive selection of wines - ESPECIALLY considering that they are in the middle of nowhere, Kentucky. They also have a large selection of beers. So I picked up two bottles of my Oyster Bay and figured I would try one of the local wines as well. I selected the Black and Bruised - which is Blackberry and grape wine. When I drank the B & B i found it to be very fruity and fairly sweet. It actually tasted like grape juice with a slight berry flavor. I wouldn't drink it everyday, but did drink the bottle watching the election results at an Inn on the Outer Banks of NC. Both times I was in the store while staying at the Cave National Park, I was assisted by the very pleasant and helpful Stacy. While wandering about the store I could hear her assisting other customers and she was just as pleasant and accommodating as one can be. It was truly a pleasure for me to observe such awesome customer service. Overall an EXCELLENT place to shop and get great service. Stacy needs to come and work at the wine shop in California and teach them a little about customer service.

What does one do when in Kentucky? Go seeking bourbon, obviously. Not being familiar with the area,…read morethis was the first option that cropped upon a quick Google search so this is where we went. My friends, who have no appreciation for almost any sort of liquor, sent me in alone. I pretty much zeroed in on the bourbon selection and didn't spend much time looking at anything else. I was a little disappointed that the selection of bourbon was fairly standard for any liquor store in the general midwest vicinity. Prices were standard. Service was amiable enough. Everything looked clean and organized.

It's more likely than you'd think! Old Tyme Liquors is fairly small but packs a remarkable variety within its walls, and no matter what your vice is, you won't be hurting for options. The craft beer coolers deserve particular attention, because they house some rarities that are downright shocking to find in this region. My favorite find was Lazy Magnolia's Southern Pecan Ale. This terrific brown ale from Kiln, MS tends to be rarer than hen's teeth in Kentuckiana, and I've only caught it on draft a couple times. To see it casually hanging out in one of Old Tyme's coolers was a real treat. Other notable names on deck here include Lil Beaver (Bloomington, IL), Voodoo Brewing Co. (Meadville, PA), Rochester Mills (Rochester, MI), Fair State Co-op (Minneapolis, MN) and of course, plenty of standout breweries from across Indiana. Seriously, this place is a slice of heaven if you're looking for craft beer from far-flung parts of the country. And for everything else, they keep the prices reasonable and the shelves stocked. Damn, it feels good to be a Hoosier.

We have many friends who have suggested this place and we finally had a chance to try it out. We…read morewent on a specific night because they were to have salsa dancing/music and my husband and I are getting more into dancing. I tried not to have many expectations because you never know what you'll get in Bowling Green. We both expected the bar to have a smokier vibe but it was very clean, small, and modern in design. Not necessarily bad, just different. They have an excellent wine selection, a few unique beers, and a few of their specialty cocktails on tap. We shared a bottle of red wine then I tried their pineapple vodka cocktail. It was good but didn't blow my mind. The bar area is a little cramped, the cashier station is in between bar seats and if a line forms to order or close out, the walkway more narrow than it was before. The dancing was ok- they had a dancing class there which added to the crowd but they also played some extremely trashy music that isn't what most people enjoy dancing to (I'm sorry, I don't want to dance to Britney Spears or Lady Gaga... it's 2019). That was frustrating. They did have a keyboardist who played actual salsa music and we enjoyed dancing to that. It's an awkward floorplan for dancing but we made it work. It seems like a nice bar. Their prices are not great but slightly better than other similar bars in the area. It was clean and those working were pleasant and managed the crowds well. The music was a little bit disappointing but that doesn't mean we wouldn't go back! It's rare to find a venue that hosts legitimate ballroom style dancing (or at least encourages it) so we may go back just to practice and have some fun. Definitely a top spot in Bowling Green and worth a visit if you have a free evening.

The wine available to purchase is not ones you would typically find. Michael sources them and chooses based on what's in 'season' and has a great variety. Drop in and check out the rosés that are there. The sparking is delicious. It's located in a strip district and is a large venue. They have a 'party' room that can be reserved. They also have an area in the front that accommodates anyone that likes to dance. They don't serve food, but encourage guests to either bring snacks or order from somewhere local. The bathroom was clean and maintained. If not a wine drinker: they also have beer and premade cocktails on tap. Go in a stranger, come out having met new friends.
