SonFlower Ranch is truly an incredible place. I found them after spending the day watching two baby squirrels after their sibling had fallen from their nest. When one of the remaining babies started to go into distress, I knew I had to act fast.
I called and spoke with Alicia, one of the founders. Even though they don't typically take squirrels that small, she immediately told me to bring her in and reassured me she would be there. The drive took almost an hour, and I was so worried I wouldn't make it in time but Alicia stayed in touch the whole way and made me feel completely supported.
As soon as I arrived, she jumped into action, providing pain relief, placing the baby on a heating pad, and quickly securing a licensed foster home. The level of care, compassion, and dedication was incredible.
She even told me to call back in 48 hours for an update on our little baby "Allie" (the name we gave her since the tree is in our back alley by the garage). The entire process there and back took about three hours, and about an hour after I got home, Alicia called me with an update. Sadly, Allie didn't make it but she reassured me that she did not pass in distress. The pain medication had kicked in, she was warm, and she went peacefully.
What makes their work even more remarkable is that they care for up to 50 animals at a time, everything from raccoons to rabbits to squirrels - with often only one doctor on site. They rely heavily on donations and volunteers to keep going, which makes their level of dedication even more inspiring.
When I learned what it takes to care for just one squirrel, I didn't hesitate to set up a monthly donation. That's how much their work matters.
I'm so grateful for people like Alicia, SonFlower Ranch is doing truly meaningful, compassionate, life-saving work, even in the hardest moments. Thank you Alicia for taking such good care of baby Allie in her final moments. read more
