I don't like that so many of their activities have an added charge. $5/person for that poor excuse of a train ride is pathetic. Food was also expensive and mostly mid, but the brisket was pretty flavorful with good smoke on it. Live band was pretty disappointing and sound quality was poor. Would've preferred simple bgm or even silence. I like that they had big open space this year on the lawn, instead of parking cars there, to setup chairs and picnic blankets to watch the fireworks. I don't like, however, how short the show was. It was 18 minutes. That's pretty sad, tbh. I would've anticipated at least a half hour. That said, I'm sure I'll forget and do it all again next year so we can take the kids to see some fireworks again where it feels somewhat less congested than in other places. Charging to park the car for events just feels pretty cheap too. Like it's your property. How else would you like me to get there so I can spend money buying your food and doing your activities? I do hear the spooky walk is good during Halloween, though, so I'll have to try that.

We got there and there wasn't too much to do unless your children are really small. They truck to sign is cool. We enjoyed the basketball game you can play. The hayride was okay. It was really short. It could actually be walking distance for some. They have a lot of pumpkins to choose, but only the little ones are free. The lemonade was okay, it did its job for the random hot day it was. I wouldn't return just because I have no little children.

A Sweet Slice of Old-Fashioned North Carolina in the Heart of Chair City…read more This store is an absolute must-visit when you're in Thomasville -- or anywhere in the Old North State. Old North State Candy & Gifts is located in historic downtown Thomasville, diagonally across the intersection of Salem Street and East Main Street from the famous Big Duncan Phyfe Chair. I saw it from the Big Chair, and I'm very glad I walked over and wandered in. This is a classic hometown candy store -- the kind that feels like it belongs on Main Street in a Norman Rockwell painting. It has that warm small-town energy that immediately makes you smile when you walk through the door. They specialize in hand-crafted candies, including old-fashioned hard candy drops made in small batches. The selection is impressive: fudge, brittles, taffies, gourmet popcorn, chocolates, and hundreds of nostalgic and specialty candies from around the world. I was especially excited to find pecan candy rolls that reminded me of the classics from Stuckey's and Buc-ees. The interior is bright, clean, and beautifully organized, making it easy to browse. It's a welcoming space for families, tourists, and anyone with a sweet tooth -- or an Americana history enthusiast like me. I visited in early January, and the store was still decorated for Christmas, which added to the charm. The woman working that day was incredibly friendly and helpful, and we had a delightful conversation. I believe she may have been the owner, which made the experience feel even more personal and authentic. I left with a bag containing several flavors of taffy, maple-covered popcorn, and pecan candy rolls -- and they were OUTSTANDING. I'm still working my way through them and enjoying every bite. If you appreciate small-town charm, local businesses, and old-fashioned candy shops, Old North State Candy & Gifts is a true gem in downtown Thomasville.

I asked how long the air had been out, and staff said three days. That's a serious issue when you're serving dairy and frozen products. Some ice cream tubs were scraped nearly empty, and others looked like they'd melted and refrozen. When I asked if they had more in the back, the staff laughed instead of answering. Then a portable A/C unit was rolled in, but not properly hooked up. It started leaking water on the floor near the display and entry area. No signs, no cleanup, no caution. I still bought something to give them a chance. My husband enjoyed his, but I couldn't shake the worry. If I end up feeling sick, I'll know why. If your air is out, let your customers know. This could've easily been avoided with honesty and some extra care.
