Because their machines were down on the first visit they had to schedule a follow up, though I was still charged for the first visit. Then today, two days before, they said I had to reschedule because they were having an "analytics meetin,g," I.e. not some patient problem but internal business. I offered to come on Monday or Tuesday at 5. Nope we can't do. Would you refund me the first visit. Nope we can't do, It is like playing a game of "Mother May I". In 62 years, a dentist has never, not once rescheduled, let alone for an internal business meeting. I have had dentists come in after hours for a root canal. When a judge tells me to be in court, I don't look in my schedule book, and say, gee, judge, you are going to have to reschedule. They are supposed to be PROFESSIONALS!!! NOTE: I checked with a long dentist I had in another college town. I was informed than other than patient emergencies and a dentist getting sick, they have not in their memory (which is long) rescheduled on a patient. I suspected as much. Not sure what to do now, since they won't refund the first visit.

So thankful for this dentistry!!…read more I've had terrible experiences in the past (looking at you, @AspenDental!) But this place is slowly winning over my trauma. Had an infection hit full force over the weekend, and got ahold of Hart Dentistry's after hours number. 9:00 this morning they had me in and I'm now one tooth and one massive infection less.. and so far feeling much better already! The office was closed today, but 3 of the staff members came into work to take care of me and I really appreciate it! Thank you for the caring staff and treatment you give your patients!

It was my first time choosing a dentist. I had always seen my family dentist before, but I had…read moremoved and I had a new employer's insurance plan. I chose Dr. Moreno mainly based on her appearance in a listing of 'green' businesses. On my first visit, just a regular cleaning and check-up, she said I had the beginnings of three cavities, and that they needed to be drilled and filled right away before they'd get bigger. My insurance wouldn't allow me to get a second opinion until six months had passed. I'd never had a cavity before. But I was young and didn't know what to do. I trusted her and took the fillings. Six months later, my second check-up with her, she said she saw the beginnings of a fourth cavity. I was suspicious, and paid for a second opinion. My second opinion disagreed that a filling was in order, and I've never needed one since. Now I have three possibly unnecessary fillings in my mouth. Years later, I can still feel them and taste them. She told me they'd need to be replaced periodically, too.

Used to see a dentist here back when I was in school, over 10 years ago. I'm sure with all of the…read moredental work I had done, including a root canal, crown, and replacement crown, I helped pay for someone's salary. Fast forward about 10 years and I'm thinking about replacing the crown. My dentist in the Cities can't quite tell some specific info about the crown by looking at the x-rays and suggests I call my old dentist to get my records. I call today thinking it's going to be something like 6 weeks and a $50 processing fee to get my hands on the info, especially when I learn that my old dentist no longer works there. Instead, I spoke with Vicki, a wonderfully competent individual, who was able to pull up my records within about 2 minutes of talking to her. She did say that the specific info I was looking for (which, btw, I could barely articulate, "I need to know something about my crown. Was it put on directly or was there a post or something like that?") was probably on a paper copy, not on the computer, and asked if she could call me back. She called back within, I'm not kidding, 10 minutes and told me exactly what I needed to know. I love being pleasantly surprised like that! I wonder if my Flex Spending Account would reimburse my mileage, hotel stay, and drinks at the Sanctuary if I could go back to Iowa City for my dental appointments?

When I found myself in the market for a new dentist this year, I spent some time browsing reviews…read moreand asking around. I was also wondering how dental offices were handling the pandemic, from scheduling to cleanliness practices. Based on the recommendation of a friend, I decided to give Design Dental a call. I'm glad I did! They made everything easy and I felt comfortable the entire time. For new patients, they split it into two visits - one to take x-rays and do a general review, and then a second to do cleaning and/or work needed. When I called they were able to get me in in a reasonable amount of time. They were limiting the number of people in the waiting room by having you call from your car to let them know you had arrived, then took your temperature once they greeted you. The hygienists who took my x-rays and looked over my teeth and gums did a good job explaining what they were doing and looking at. Dr. Schminke was amiable and also clear about the process, answering any questions I had. They were able to get me in for the follow-up cleaning the very next day, which was a pleasant surprise. During the cleaning they offered me an optional item and mentioned that it wasn't covered by insurance, so I didn't have any unexpected charges. I found everyone there to be very helpful and friendly, and the place to feel clean and well cared for.
