hired Jim because my other lawyer was too expensive, and I got what I paid for. He did not file a single thing he would for my contested divorce. The other party never handed over discovery, for which he said he would file a good faith letter and a deficiency letter before filing a motion for discovery. He did none of the 3. Over a year, he would cancel every appointment we had. I am saying this literally. We had about 100 calls, and only 4 were actual conversations, and they were 10 minutes before our virtual hearings, where he would yell at me and be condescending. He never answered my emails, and I set a lot. After I paid my $5k retainer, I asked him to file the motion. He told me he would file the motion when he gets another $1750. This was only 3 months in and two hearings. I had at least $4500 left of my retainer. It Turns out he never kept track of billing because this was not the only time. I asked him for an itemized bill with dates, and he never gave it to me. Over a year later, I do not have it. Not only that, but his paralegal gave me a bill for over $10k and CHARGED ME FOR APPEARANCES; MY OTHER LAWYER MADE 7, to be exact. She rounded all the hearings (including the ones he did not attend) to 1 hour each. So, an extra 7 hours for him not being my lawyer, and the hearings he did attend were only 15 minutes. She did this because I pushed them for a bill, and she had to go into the office. Even if he charged me for prep work, it would not be an hour. He would call 10 minutes before to yell because he did not prep or review. I let them know he was charging me for another lawyer's appearance, but they ignored it, which is still my only bill. He showed up an hour late on the day of the trial, so we did not prepare for it. He told me he would file the motion for discovery then, the day of which is outrageous. He had over a year to do it and lied about it. He instead negotiated with them, pulled me aside, and said, "Sign this", thinking it was standard paperwork. We went back into court, where the judge asked me to stand up, swore me in, and then stated she was granting the divorce based on our settlement. I had no idea I settled, I hired this man to get discovery, and he didn't. I told him I had proof of my ex having hidden accounts and that I had proof the listed ones had money in them. I also told him that as part of the divorce, I wanted to spend an afternoon with the dog, who was registered as mine and my ex-wife's emotional support animal. It was a simple request that I would give money up for because I am not a gross human being and loved this creature. All I wanted was to say bye, and he let my ex use the dog as a tool and never even discussed it with them. I wont get to say bye now, and I am devastated I recorded my conversations with him, so I can back this up. He is withholding my check from my ex because they state I need to come in and sign a release. I told them I was not signing anything again without a lawyer looking at it because of how sketchy they were and did not tell me I was settling. I let them know more than once that I am disabled and can not just show up, but they are still telling me I need to come to get i I have been overcharged thousands on a made-up bill; nothing was filed, he was incredibly nasty and condescending (proven by recordings), canceled on me for 23 straight business days ( I am serious) at one point, and has not given me any of my court documents including a copy of what I signed and is now withholding my check. Moreover, I still have no itemized bill to which I am entitled. This man charges all his clients together for 80 hours a week but works 40 if even that. This is how Derek Storms and his law office handled cases. They are unprofessional, lazy, rude arrogant to say the least. Derek and myself had agreed to meet today at 1pm. Yet he sends me a text message an hour before our schedule meeting to inform me that he left my personal documents in "Target" bag under the napkins in a local Starbucks in manhattan. I hired Derek and his law from to represent me in in family court and to in my divorce about 9 months ago. Despite paying him over $8,0000 upfront, which was my fault he did absolutely nothing. I had to fill out my own petition's, mail in documents and find my own evidence!. The day of my trail Derek sends me a text message an hour before court was to begin informing me that he wouldn't be able to appear in court to represent me. He said he'll have one of his associates name Lee appear on his behalf. Despite me explaining my response why I didn't feel comfortable having Lee represent me months before. You may ask why, in short words Lee is a monkey in a suit. Literally!. The icing on the cake was when Lee called me an hour before trail was set to begin to tell me in had to faith in my case and that he felt their was no need to even show up because in his words I had already lost the case. Clearly I was shocked with his behavior and attitude towards my case. I simply told Lee that I didn't want him working on my case. So he went and withdrew himself from my case on the day trail was to begin. I believe Derek had his panties all in a bunch that morning because he went and broke the retainer. After months of me trying to have faith in these lawyers I had to speak up. Apparently Lee was butt hurt because I questioned his ability and Derek felt the need to play captain save a hoe and yell and holler at the top of his lungs telling me Lee is a 70 year old man with " years" of experience. Which clearly is BS!.. if your looking for a law firm in Queens New York to handle your case my best advice is run the other way. You'll have a better chance with a chimp on crack then with them. read more

Beyond unprofessional workplace. The minute we paid ahead of time our lawyer has been MIA... doesn't answer phone calls, text, or emails unless you call 50 times. Every time I've called I've been given a different answer/excuse on why something was not done. Me and my ex significant other have multiple screenshots of messages and phone calls being left in answered for periods of time multiple times.Almost 2 weeks has passed and they failed to tell us why they still haven't sent out our signed documents. Working in luxury retail I know that this is not how an establishment should be acting and I shouldn't feel like I have to chase around a lawyer for a straight answer.THEY GOT THE MONEY AHEAD OF TIME SO OF COURSE THEY WILL HALF ASS EVERYTHING.
