In 2019 I thought about dealing with the insurance company myself but quickly learned I was being jerked around. I spent 6 months trying to get hospital bills paid for and during that time I couldn't get a doctor to see me on a lien. My health insurance had lapsed so I was stuck. Nick went to law school with a friend of mine who recommended him. Within the first two weeks of hiring Nick, the hospital collections stop calling me, I had gotten my first updated MRI, and got a doctor to start treating me on a lien basis which meant I didn't have to pay anything. For the 2019 claim, the insurance company kept trying to play a game about how I didn't seek treatment until I got an attorney, but Nick made quick work of that and got my case back on track. We ended up having to file a lawsuit because of how much time the insurance company wasted in getting me care. For my accident in 2023, I got T-bone getting off the freeway. First thing I did as soon as I was discharged a couple days later I called Nick. "Surprise - surprise" there was no six month. Wait in trying to see a doctor or getting updated MRIs, and the hospital bill didn't go into collections this time. I appreciate that throughout the process for the 2019 and 2023 injuries, Nick was realistic, compassionate, and firm. He didn't promise me a retirement, but he did promise that I would get medical care and he would fight. After having to deal with the nonsense in 2019, it was nice to know that somebody was actually there to deal with the headaches and I didn't have to. I also referred my mom to Nick in late 2023 when she got rear ended. I continue to work with Nick to this day on my mom's case. Nick I just want you to know that I really appreciate you, sir. From the start, we've had several different points of contact--every time we finally get someone who seems consistent, they change the person again. Gutierrez was supposed to finally be that stable point of communication, but she's been the exact opposite. She promised regular calls every other Friday, promised to keep my mom updated, and promised to follow through on specific tasks for the case. She hasn't fulfilled a single one of those commitments. When my mom or I call, she is repeatedly rude, condescending, and dismissive. She cuts my mom off mid-sentence, talks over her, and treats her as if she's an inconvenience instead of a client going through a difficult situation. The disrespect is constant--this isn't a one-time thing. It's happened at least four separate times now. Each time we've had to complain about the way she speaks to people. Even today, she answered the phone with an attitude before we could even explain why we were calling. It's extremely unprofessional for someone working in a field that is supposed to advocate for injured workers. My mother deserves dignity and clear communication; instead, she's been met with indifference and entitlement. We should NOT have to match anyone's energy just to be heard or treated respectfully. If you are looking for a workers' compensation lawyer who actually communicates, honors their word, and treats clients with respect, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This level of unprofessionalism should not be considered normal at any law firm.

Based on the ordinary meaning of that term, I expected to speak with an attorney regarding the facts of my potential case and have an opportunity to ask questions. Instead, I spent approximately an hour with an intake representative named Jessica answering a lengthy series of scripted questions. While I understand the need for an intake process, the interaction felt more like data collection than a consultation. Any questions I had about my case could not be answered because I was not speaking with an attorney. What I experienced did not match my understanding of a consultation. The appointment consisted entirely of me providing information and answering questions, without any discussion with an attorney or opportunity to receive feedback about my situation. Following the intake, I was asked to provide additional documentation, which I promptly submitted, including Right-to-Sue notices from both the EEOC and California Civil Rights Department, along with other requested records. After providing the requested documents, my case was ultimately declined. When I inquired about the reason for the decision, I was told that the attorney did not provide one. I was also never informed which attorney reviewed my matter, so I do not know whether one or both attorneys evaluated the case. What disappointed me most was not that the firm declined the case, but that after investing significant time, providing detailed information, and submitting the exact documents requested, no meaningful explanation was provided. Individuals seeking employment counsel are often dealing with job loss, financial uncertainty, and significant emotional stress. Taking a few moments to provide some level of feedback or context would demonstrate a degree of professionalism and empathy that was absent from my experience.
