I saw Dr. Soliguen to get a refill on a routine medication that I have been taking without issue for 3+ years. As requested, I showed up 15 minutes early for my appointment but was not called in until 45 minutes after my appointment time. I spent no more than 15-20 minutes with the doctor, we went over my history and agreed to continue the same medication. She scheduled me for a followup 3 months later but didn't explain that I would need to be seen every 3 months simply to continue the same medication. I failed to realize that this meant I would need to pay $75 for the next visit (my bad) and when I did, I called to cancel.
The pharmacy provided a few more refills then told me the doctor would not authorize any more. I called the office to find out why and spoke with the receptionist who explained that the doctor does not prescribe medications on an annual basis and all patients need to be seen regularly. I politely asked to speak with the doctor and explained that I've been taking this same medication for years, that I had recently lost my job (and insurance) and was going to be leaving the country the following week. I was not allowed to speak with the doctor but the receptionist said she would explain the situation and give me a call back. I gave her the dates of my trip so she could ask the doctor if I could at least get enough to last me until I got home.
That was 2 weeks ago. I'm guessing the answer is no but it would have been nice to get a call back and an opportunity to speak with the doctor about the best way to discontinue my medication. read more
