Lights and mirrors makes class fun!

WOW. This class will make you work muscles that you did not even know existed. Your body will cringe and cry and BURN but it's all worth it in the end. Solidcore is basically lagree Pilates plus with slightly different reformers. Would recommend arriving to class a little bit early to go over the machine if you haven't used one of these before. Sarah was great! She makes sure your form is correct Music is upbeat and time goes by quickly! Downside: it is pretty pricey; I think the classes start at $30 each and get slightly lower with the packages. First class is $15 though! Also, there are only 12 reformers and the last class is at 6:30, which makes it very popular for the after work crowd. HIGHLY recommend for ladies who are really trying to tone and carve out the right curves! You will FEEL it the next day guaranteed!

Alex [ROCKS]!!! Thanks for the great workout!

Thrive Pilates & Yoga has the feeling of an original studio, in the best possible sense. It reminds…read moreme of Vira Yoga in SoHo, the first yoga studio I ever practiced in, which has long since closed but still sits in my memory as a certain kind of downtown wellness institution: essentialist rooms, serious teachers, and no need to announce its own taste. Thrive has a similar quality. It feels built from real experience rather than from a brand deck. Hally has clearly created this place with care and precision, and it is a gift to see a local Rittenhouse operator build something this thoughtful in Philadelphia. The studio is consistently clean, the desk team has always been professional, and the whole operation feels calm and well-held. The clientele adds a lot to the atmosphere, too. They seem like people who have been all over the world and seen the full continuum of people, places, and things, but would never tell you that; they just absorb it. I especially want to give real credit to Lisa Grunberger, one of the wisest yoga teachers I have ever encountered. My yoga journey started with Elena Brower, and Lisa reminds me of that same era of teachers: deeply wise about physiology, a lifelong student of the practice, and unusually perceptive about life. She embodies yoga in a way that feels earned, not performed. There is something very moving about watching someone age gracefully while still working hard to stay current, flexible, and fully alive in the work. Lisa's music deserves its own mention because it is extraordinary. Her class soundtracks map to an era just before music became fully digitized, when taste still had to be gathered, carried, and lived with over time. The tracks are rich, discerning, and never forced. I have had so many moments in her Friday midday class where I hear something and think, "Oh my gosh, this song is amazing" because the music is not just background; it quietly deepens the whole experience. Life and budget have shifted, so I have not been back to Thrive recently, but I know I will return when I can. Thrive has that low key, sophisticated, quietly chic feeling that never seems to be trying to sell itself. It feels more like an academy and a commune than a business, which is rare for a city studio. I admire what Hally has built here, and hope to return soon! Note: There appear to be two Yelp pages for the same business, listed as Thrive Pilates & Yoga and Thrive Pilates. I'm posting this review on both to avoid confusion.

When we arrived at 11:50, the kittens were still not there. They were brought in by Morris Animal Refuge. All the proceeds from the class went directly towards the needs of the refuge. Once we were settled in and the kittens got acclimated, our instructor, Heather, gave some background about Morris Animal Refuge. She stated it was a beginner level class and there wouldn't be a need for props. The class was actually pretty fast paced for beginner level! Heather said she would conclude five minutes early to give us a chance to take photos and spend time with the cats. The cats were amazing, but I wish there were more of them. They mostly hung around at the front of the studio but the volunteers from Morris would grab them and bring them around so everyone had a chance to see them. There were a lot of people in attendance for just a few cats. Amrita provided a clean and pleasant environment and a comfortable temperature for the class.

A lot to unpack at this new-to-me class. I've taken a pretty wide variety of chain fitness classes: was an OrangeTheory girly for a while, have taken Barry's, PureBarre, pilates, you name it. I like the opportunity to try new things as it keeps me curious about my body and fitness, so stopping by solidcore with zero knowledge or expectations seemed like the move. This is a reformer-based class that moves FAST - be prepared to live in the struggle and accept it. The instructor did an awesome job explaining the machine to me before class, but the pace is relentless. Which I think is why many folks find this so addicting! I was sore for 3 days after this class and cannot imagine a faster (or more painful, frankly) path to some serious strength gains, given that this workout is resistance based and choose-your-own-adventure intensity. The kicker is cost. When looking at membership details (I attended on a classpass trial) I was pretty shocked to find that 5 classes would set you back ~$170. Not something that's in my budget, but I absolutely recommend trying class and seeing if it's for you. Thanks to the team here for the great experience!

Regardless, during that time I turned 50 and my body only changed for the better. I became stronger and leaner and more flexible. Bree - the owner - is pretty hard core about her practices but also is very supportive and encouraging and creative. This personal approach to Classical Pilates is very effective and worth your time, effort, and money. I had attended group Pilates classes before and it wasn't the same- or even close. If you are looking to feel and look better, I recommend working with Equilibrium Pilates for a few months to see those results.

From the time, Brie (the owner/head instructor) returned my phone call, I knew that I would like her energy and enthusiasm. But now I can honestly say-Brie is my hero. I didn't know what to expect so I didn't have any particular thoughts before arriving. I walked in and saw several stations with different types of equipment. My only thought was-"She doesn't really expect me to be able to use any of this." . So I admit it I was nervous, embarrassed, and thought about running out of there before my session started. But Danielle (the receptionist) was good because she answered my questions and checked on my while I waited. She also was very positive and friendly. So I decided to stay. . Brie was great. She kept talking to me and encouraging me through out the session. I worked as hard if not harder than I do when I do cardio at the gym. But it was better. My back felt good at the end. The other people there were good too. They mention not to laugh even though one of them was a dancer. In any case, it was excellent. Brie was great. She didn't even seem to mind my buckets of sweat. Thanks for recommending it Paige and Anthony.

Oh, and they also offer a multitude of messages, which I hope to be testing out soon! This studio is beyond compare! I've taken dance classes since I was three years old (at prestigious schools such as Point Park), and the belly dance classes I have taken here rival any and all in my experience. The instructors level of professionalism and knowledge is amazing, but what I like best is the "comfort" level. Classes are filled with beginners through experienced and professional dancers. I'm intermediate level, but am not deterred by the experienced or beginner dancers. I won't analyze it, I'm just going to say that it works! As for the atmosphere, cozy comes to mind. There are mirrors everywhere (like a real ballet studio), which are essential for gaging body position. Another great aspect is the price: $12 per class; $10 per class (10 class minimum); $9 per class (20 class minimum). You can't beat those prices anywhere!!! One great perk is that, if you buy 10 classes, you can use those however you want. For example, take 3 belly dance classes, 2 yoga classes, 2 pilates classes, and 3 fitness classes (or some other combo). And, if you miss a class, you don't have to pay for it. It really is the best deal around!

The WORST Club Pilates location I have ever visited!…read more I have a Passport membership and travel frequently, so I've experienced many Club Pilates studios. I genuinely cannot believe this location is part of the same franchise. The studio is absolutely filthy. There is dust and clumps of hair everywhere around the reformers, to the point where it's genuinely disgusting. The overhead lighting makes you feel like you're lying on a surgical table rather than attending a Pilates class. The reformer straps are another issue. Instead of investing in proper, comfortable straps, the studio uses thin leather straps that are incredibly uncomfortable and painful when your arms are in them. It honestly feels like the owner is cutting corners at the expense of members' comfort. Trying to call the studio is a nightmare because nobody answers the phone. To make matters worse, the studio will randomly cancel an entire day's schedule with less than 12 hours' notice. Completely unacceptable for a studio charging membership fees. The one bright spot is Paulina, who is an incredible instructor. She deserves a much better studio environment to teach in, and I sincerely hope she finds one that appreciates her talent. I absolutely do NOT recommend this location. If you're in the area, there are plenty of other reformer Pilates studios worth trying. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere.
