Shedding the pandemic pounds isn't easy, so I'm glad the instructors here do an amazing job at masking the calorie-burning exercises in the disguise of dance routines. For personal favorites, I love the hip-hop classes with Maya and Ricky. With both instructors, you'll learn to move your body in the way you didn't know you could. I'm a fan of hip-hop choreography and both of these fine instructors are great at creating fresh routines to match with the good beats. Aside from hip-hop, Zumba classes here are also great. Regardless of the class you choose, you'll be leaving the studio drenching in sweats.

The teachers work extremely hard, building the minds and bodies of the students, while encouraging the students to enjoy dancing. It not always easy and you have to be on pointe (lol). They are dedicated in making sure the students are strong and developed in their technique. The studio is very welcoming. You will always find a parent willing to help or share. She's an only child with many dance sisters. I couldn't ask for a better group of friends or adult role models. Wait!!!! They also have DROP IN CLASSES for adults!!!! Ms. Jaquetta has drop in classes for adults from ballet to hip-hop to African. I took one African class so far. Looking to taking another in the future. My husband and I have been members for over a year and have enjoyed our experience. In summary-…read moregreat value for the area, everything you need in a gym. Classes aren't the best but can't blame them at the price point. COVID precautions have been sufficient to make me feel comfortable going in. 1. Price: we locked in a rate of $45/mo which is the most reasonable price in the area by far for what we need and want. We want access to weights, squat racks, etc. The really cheap gyms like planet fitness only have Smith machines which are not the same as squat racks, so you really cannot compare those prices. We have walked in and out of gyms when touring in the past for not having basic squat racks. Other gyms in the area are very "boutique" and/or emphasize personal training and for that reason the prices are way more expensive. We don't need or want that. 2. Classes: I tried a few classes before the pandemic and they were not my favorite. But read comment on price. I'm willing to sacrifice classes for access to good gym equipment for a good price. I tried spin once and it was very boring. Couldn't really hear the instructor and she didn't take the time to make sure everyone was on the same page, ask if there were any beginners needing help with bike set up, etc. Tried a couple other classes pre-pandemic and they were meh. 3. Equipment: Cardio: There are about a million treadmills and ellipticals. I've never seen the cardio area even close to half full. Weight room: When I first joined it felt like there were never enough dumbbells but they seem to have improved that and I haven't had a problem since. It's a small and tight space. Prior to COVID, there were definitely times where I felt like I was in the way/there was not enough room at peak gym times but otherwise fine. There are only two squat racks but there always seems to be one available when you need it. 4. Space: Again, plenty of space for cardio. Crowded weight lifting area that can feel intimidating if you are new to weight lifting or like me, a woman who is usually the only woman in the weight room. There's a big room upstairs that's used for classes and any time there isn't a class you can just work out in there. The room has mats, and dumbbells on the lighter side. 5. Covid precautions: They shut down when the pandemic started and immediately stopped billing customers, which I really appreciate. I know it had to be very hard on their business. Now that gyms are free to open, they have time slots which you can sign up for but I am always able to just show up because the time slots are never full. They clean in between time slots and limit capacity. They check temperatures at the door and everyone must wear a mask. I've found that the gym goers are respectful and haven't seen any bad apples not complying. Unless you're going at peak time (5pm or maybe morning sessions, but I've never been to one of those), the gym is nowhere near capacity and so there is plenty of space. At the 5pm session they do fill up. 6. Miscellaneous: This is something very small (or big depending on your beliefs) but there are signs that say stuff like "if you're reading this you're not working hard enough". I personally think that kind of gym mentality is not positive and not welcoming to all fitness levels and even harmful to people who may struggle with body dysmorphia or disordered eating. Words matter and I just wanted to put this out there for management's consideration of being inclusive to different levels of fitness, workout styles, etc.

There was little to no attention to the individuals, she just stood at the front of the room the entire time doing the poses with us which made it feel somewhat impersonal. The space was also too small for the amount of people that showed up, so it felt a bit claustrophobic. Following my free trial, I also sent out MULTIPLE emails to her regarding the membership fee I was charged. I was not please with the service due to the above reasons so I did not wish to be charged for something I will not be returning to, but she never responded to my emails. (She had been very responsive to my previous emails prior to enrolling in the free trial). It just left me feeling like she was trying to get money regardless of my experience with the studio.

This is a small business owned and started by Callie and it does NOT have any sort of corporate feel. The studio is so cozy and you can tell that Callie really puts her heart and soul into it. I love the esthetic of the studio- the plants are luscious and there is so much attention to detail with all the decorations. The classes are very affordable. I buy the class packs which amount to about $17 per class but you can find an even better deal if you snag them during one of the sales. As others have mentioned, it's also amazing that the classes don't expire. This makes me feel like the studio wants you to use the classes and have a good experience rather than being focused on profits. I really feel like there is something here for everyone. There is a variety of teachers, so you have to try a few classes out to see who you like! In the same vein, if you try a class and it's not your thing, don't be afraid to try another one as there is such a range of teaching styles. My personal favorites are Melissa, Katie, Ann, and of course, Callie. While the teachers all have differences in teaching style, they all focus on being in tune with your body, taking breaks when needed and enjoying the workout. The classes are 45 minutes and it goes FAST. They are also a lot of fun. The only improvement I would wish for would be more after work (6:30 PM or later) classes. It can be tough to make it to classes with my work schedule as I leave the city at 6:30 AM and am not back until 6:30 PM. As a result, I can only make it to Tuck during my days off whereas corporate studios tend to have more class times. Again, though, because the classes don't expire, I am not rushing to finish my packs and come to the studio when I can.

I am so grateful I found this space last fall, now I come to Tuck nearly every single day. The clientele are the kindest people I've ever encountered- becoming a regular at Tuck has introduced me to so many amazing women in the neighborhood. The workout is challenging but never impossible, there is lots of attention given to providing modifications and focusing on what feels good for your body. No two classes are ever the same which I absolutely need to avoid getting bored. For barre, I have been known to say Katie's barre at 7:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays is the best part of my week. I also love Vanessa's barre class. I am not as much of a yogi but I adore Rachael's Wednesday night yoga class and Elizabeth's Tuesday night restorative. I especially love that the class packs don't expire. Please never change that! The only thing I'll mention is that some instructor's playlists can get repetitive, and that the studio is only sporadically stocked with essentials like tissues and tampons. I also wish the studio offered more class times because the classes (especially morning and weekend classes) can be difficult to get into.
