The SAS Institute, in Cary, is famous for how well it treats its employees, and it's known to have…read moregreat food. So I thought I'd yelp a review in case anyone is curious. The campus has 3 cafeterias (Buildings F, R, and T), but F is the main one and, if you know someone at SAS (like me!), you can come eat there. This is cafeteria-style food (there are also sandwich and salad bars, but I'll restrict my review to the hot lines in F). Each day, the cafes offer 2 entrees, several vegetables, and IF you are lucky, a casserole (and it's my affinity for those casseroles that earned me the name Dr. Casserole). There is usually a "meat" entree and a "healthy" option. Typical meat entrees are things like meatloaf, fried chicken, sloppy joes, etc. Alternative entrees are things like grilled tuna steaks, pasta with marinara sauce, etc. Several veggies are always offered, usually of the steamed variety, and I am not a big fan of steamed veggies. They are usually bland baby carrots or a broccoli cauliflower mix. The salad bar is a good alternative. There are a few that are outstanding, but it's hit and miss on any given day. But the casseroles, oh the casseroles. Ranch potato casserole (think hash browns slathered in ranch dressing and baked), best cauliflower casserole (cheesy mayonnaisey cauliflower -- okay that sounds a little gross but it is actually awesome), and the classic green been casserole with those crunchy onions on top. If you catch one of those, you are in luck indeed. Bonus: they brew counter culture coffee, and its FREE! Actually all drinks are free. Bonus bonus: they have a real live piano player there every day during lunch laying down lounge jazz. Groovy.

Not sure why this is an entry on Yelp - I called the number listed, which goes to SAS, and finally…read moregot someone who said it's not open to the public, and you need to go with an SAS employee to be allowed to dine. They should either remove this entry, update the phone number or make that clear.
