After extensively researching different solar companies for leasing OR owning, I interviewed 3 who I felt had the best records. Solarponics was the last company I interviewed and by far out-shined the others in every which way. A retired engineer friend of mine who'd gone solar over a decade ago felt Solarponics was the best in the business -- and lucky for us, they're right here on the Central Coast! My reasons for going solar stem from my aversion /dislike of BIG "for-profit only" monopolies (like PG&E) where customers are forced to accept ever-increasing fees. I have the same aversion to LARGE companies of any kind which inevitably focus on profit over customer satisfaction. This is what I observed with the large solar companies who heavily push solar leasing because of the big profits (AND REBATES!) they will get. Not so with Solarponics! After carefully analyzing my electrical usage & home ownership plans, they were extremely upfront & honest about advising which option (purchase vs. leasing) would best serve MY financial needs - not theirs! This is a reputable, professional, well-established SMALL family-owned company who puts the best interests of their customers first! The quality of their products & service reflect that. Case in point: 6 mos. after installation, my area experienced a serious electrical storm, which damaged my panel connections. I was away for the summer, yet Solarponics easily & quickly to work with a local friend of mine to fix the damaged panels in my absence. Not only was everything back to normal when I returned, but Solarponics followed up later to make sure everything was still working well. Obviously, the electrical storm's damage affected my true-up bill from PG&E. I got no where with this big company, but Solarponics stepped right in and sent me a refund for almost the entire bill! In this day & age, this is EXCEPTIONAL customer service! read more

If you are considering solar DO NOT engage in a long term contract with payments to any other company. We purchased our system outright from Solarponics. When Ron Spann the salesman first came out he stated " I will be there for you now, during and after the install" and I thought "every salesperson says that ,until the sale is completed" The install is six weeks past and he stopped by today to follow up and explain things - making sure every issue was clear and complete. From engineering , calculations, install, respect for this property Solarponics is A+++ the only downside I can see is the company is not publicly traded, if it was I would be loading up on stock. The electric bill was $144.00 per month , now $9.00. An effective 11% ROI better than the 0.1 % the banks give you. Fabulous job and recommend them to anyone. They are local, in business a long time and honest. read more

We had a solar electrical system installed by Solarponics about 8 years ago. It never brought the electrical bill down to what they quoted. We had the techs come to check the system and they said it was working fine. Our bill is now approaching $2000 per year so we decided we would add some panels to our existing system. After several phone calls they quoted a whole new system for $30,000. We explained again that we were interested in adding to the existing system to lower our bill, not to replace it. We never heard back! We are calling someone else. read more

We have used Solarponics on two different occasions - once for an existing home and once for a new build. We have been in the area for awhile and plan to 'remain' long-term as well and it was important to get cost-effective quality work from an established company who, like us, would 'remain' long-term' and Solarponics satisfied these requirements. We had two independent solar array roof mounted systems put in plus a radiant heat floor system, all of which continue to work well. We are also having annual maintenance done for a portion of the overall installation to ensure we get optimum performance and return on our investment. It is good to know the original owner Mike has transitioned handing over the business to his son Kristian to allow for the desirable 'long-term' commitment in the community. We would not hesitate to recommend Solarponics to others who are considering wind, solar and / or radiant systems. Ray & Connie Fields, Creston, CA read more

Very responsive to call-ins and always very friendly and professional. You can tell they appreciate your business.

We had Solarponics design and install a solar electric system on our home. They were fantastic! Since we had no background, they took a lot of time to explain everything, give us our options, and help us choose the best system for us. Their price was terrific, their service was excellent, and, best of all, you can really trust them! There are a lot of new solar installers popping up every year, but do you really want to risk such a major investment with a start-up? Solarponics is the oldest Solar installer on the Central Coast. They are based right here in Atascadero. They know what they are doing, they know which equipment manufacturers are reliable, and they stand behind their work. I was totally impressed with them (perhaps you can tell), and I did my research into the different companies. read more

The Solarponics Team has recently completed the installation of the solar electric (PV) system as well as the solar thermal hot water system on our home in Arroyo Grande. As an individual educated as an engineer and who works as a management consultant with a myriad of professionals, technical firms and individuals, I am well versed on the systems available for solar energy systems. After researching the various providers on the central coast and in addition researching a DIY system with some of my colleagues, we decided on Solarponics as our choice for our solar installations. Solarponics' history, longevity, and most importantly, reputation and testimonials from satisfied customer (many whom we know) made our decision easy. Our decision proved to be the right decision. Our working with Todd to investigate and devise the right systems for us was informative, pleasant and thorough and we communicated and selected our package without pressure. Quite a pleasant experience. Working with Troy to develop the most efficient as well as aesthetically pleasing design configuration was a great collaboration - with proven results. Jesse's PV installation team comprised of Danial, Nick and Sean were courteous, neat, efficient, and delivered a roof installation that is professional and "clean." The Solar thermal panel installation they installed, as well, was done in the same orderly manner. Sean worked diligently to install the conduit internally and any eliminate exterior cabling/conduit 'eyesore.' The inverter and panel are pristine. Ryan and Justin fabricated and installed the intricate plumbing and control system to integrate the thermal hot water system into our existing recirculation hot water system. The copper and tubing installation is a work of art. My conversations with Kim and Caleb have been succinct, timely and extremely pleasant. Every individual we have come in contact with at Solarponics have been professional and caring ... for their installation as well as to us and our property. Wow! This how it is supposed to be. It seems that in our busy world, everyone seems to have time to complain. I want to ensure that we take the time to say THANK YOU for fine service and extremely pleasant experiences with every member of the Solarponics team! On Friday, we get to meet Jake for our final - permitting process with the city. We look forward to seeing Jake. We are proud to recommend Solarponics to our friends! Chuck and Laura read more

Talk about standing behind your product. Solarponics installed my rooftop system in October 2014 and did a fantastic job, very clean installation and a super installation crew. This year we had an issue with our inverter during the most productive time of the year. The inverter went bad. Even with my bad attitude about the issue the Solarponics team was extremely professional and got me up and running again in no time with a new inverter install all under warranty. I want to make a public apology to this great company for my bad attitude. Things break and protocols are in place to diagnose systems. My impatience and attitude is totally regrettable and I apologize. Thanks again Solarponics team for your great customer care and professionalism. read more

I had wanted to install solar panels to generate electricity for some time. My usage was steadily increasing and was approaching the $100/month level. I had heard the renewable tax credit was ending soon, so I decided to jump in and look for a solar installer. Each time I visited Home Depot, I was inundated with 'Free Solar' offers. I chose 3 installers off of the 'Go Solar California' website. After witnessing the 'Free Solar' company do an install on my block, I decided that company was out! The Solarponics rep who came out to my house was very knowledgeable and impressed me with detailing the whole process, from if I would actually benefit from installing solar to exactly what options I had, the costs, where it would go and the install process itself. I decided to go with Solarponics, the install was smooth and very professional. They were very careful about the roof and they made sure every part of the install was solid and it was! Suddenly, after about 2 months the system stopped producing for no apparent reason. Enphase (the inverter manufacturer) said it was caused by 'noisy power lines' or a connection problem. This is exactly when you want to have a company like Solarponics working for you! They returned, thoroughly checked the system out. In the end after everything checked out, they practically reinstalled the whole system to make sure the problem was not any part of the install process! It wasn't... They continued to support me as I navigated through convincing PGE to look into the problem. Each representative from PGE indicated had never heard of a situation like mine before... after all, my lights come of, the voltage was correct and the lights aren't flickering! Well, it turns out my power (the grid) had capacitive or harmonic noise in it, which shuts off the production, as required for PV, when any irregularity is detected in the grid. In the end, PGE really came though for me and has totally fixed the power to the entire service area on my circuit! Awesome!! I remember after installation, I received a 'Welcome to the Solarponics family' note. They really mean it!! I highly recommend this company. read more

I want to thank everyone at the Solarponics team whom I had the pleasure to interact with. This project went smoother and easier than I could have ever imagined. Everyone was very responsive, friendly, and competent. This is my first experience dealing with a company where every person treated me like I was their first priority and they were happy to be there. Other companies should take note of their organizational culture and attempt to imitate it. I will definitely recommend Solarponics to anyone who asks and probably to those who do not. read more

Every aspect of our dealings with Solarponics has been a pleasure. The company's bid was lower than the one we received from another major company. The analyst, Lawson Schaller, cheerfully spent a lot of time with us to insure that we are getting the system that best fills our needs. Moreover, he has checked back with us repeatedly to insure that all aspects of the installation were proceeding correctly. The installers, too, were polite and professional. The system operates perfectly, and it's a pleasure to watch to meter spin backwards. Additionally, the company was efficient and helpful in preparing the various documents needed for a solar installation. We especially enjoyed working with a local company (not part of a national chain) and are 100% pleased with our choice of Solarponics. read more

We shopped around looking for the best fit solar company for us. We were definitely buying rather than leasing. We talked to 3 different companies. After we talked to Todd from solarponics we knew they were the company for us. Todd was able to explain all aspects of solar generation, pg&e interface, city regulations to our satisfaction. Once the decision was made work proceeded as promised. It was done efficiently and on time. Kim in the office kept us up to date and was always there to answer questions and keep us abreast. I love the Internet interface for monitoring our system. Easy to use and keep an eye on. I recommend solarponics to anyone interested in taking the step toward energy independence. We got solar when we lived in San Diego. During that install, from initial proposal, follow up, work on location, final inspection, system activation and attention to a minor follow up issue; they exceeded all expectations. We were just as fortunate here on the central coast with Solarponics. We did research with a few other companies before a friend recommended Solarponics. One proposal was to lease. When we asked if we had the option to buy, and how much, they provided a price that was $10,000 higher than Solarponics. At that point we were convinced that we were making the right decision to select Solarponics. One of the things we liked about Solarponics is that they have been in business since 1975 and the company is still ran by the family that started it. Another plus is that Solarponics has an in house service department for any follow up issue that may occur in years to come. I had a friend who had an installation by a solar company and they had some issues about two years after they had their install and the company told them they do installs only, no maintenance. So when looking for a solar company we made sure to check if they do service calls if something happens 5 years down the road. Solarponics does! I will not hesitate to recommend Solarponics to our family, friends and colleagues. And oh yes! The system is functioning as promised, delivering pollution free energy and it is a wonderful sensation to see my meter spin backwards! :) read more

An important concern is will the solar company be around for many years to address any problems and back up the warranty on the installed system. Solarponics has been installing solar systems in Central CA coast for decades and management of the company is passing onto the next generation. Based on my interactions with them, I chose Solarponics for my home solar panel system because I believe Solarponics will be here for our bright solar future and will continue to provide their excellent services. Here is my experience - I called three solar companies and initially, bids were similar. However, Lawsen with Solarponics came out to my house two times to answer many questions. He was very patient and clear with his recommendations and guided me towards system choices that were appropriate for my household and not an overbuild. With my tax advisor, he helped me figure out important information about tax rebates regarding when I moved into the house as a resident. My overall remodel work and move were delayed, and Solarponics was flexible. When issues about potential tariffs on solar systems came up, Lawson contacted me and recommended either purchasing high quality German panels before the tariff went in place and they agreed to store them for me for several months, or switch to similar panels made in Texas. Again, they kept me informed about choices. The install went very smoothly and I contracted with them to remove an old solar system for a very reasonable cost. The workers were polite, left the job site sparkling clean, and finished in less than 4 hours. I've been working with multiple contractors in the past year on a major remodel and Solarponics was by far the easiest to work with, respectful, dependable and clean! The system has been working for 5 months and I hardly notice it except once a month when my power bill is $9. Recently, Lawson contacted me to note that the system was slipping just a bit in production and recommended I check to see if it was covered with leaves or dust. He was right, it was dusty (probably from nearby construction) and in 10 minutes I had it easily rinsed off. I am impressed that he bothered to check my system's production rate and send me a recommendation. Excellent product choices and excellent customer service. UPDATE: the solar panels have been installed for over a year now with excellent performance. Last year at the annual true-up with PG&E, my credit for extra power generated in the first year was almost exactly the amount I occasionally paid for power and fees throughout the year, so I ended up paying nothing for power last year. Again, Solarponics did a good job estimating our household power use and did not over design the project. And it is easy to add another panel or two if I needed to have more energy in the future. read more

If you are getting solar then this is the only company you should consider! The job: Solarponics in Atascadero installed 18 powerful panels on our roof. Each panel has an inverter on it and the controller is installed in our house in our art studio for easy monitoring. Our review: We researched solar for about 6 months, getting detailed bids from 5 companies, 3 of which gave bids on site. (We joked that exploring solar was our new full time hobby for the year!) A close neighbor had recommended Solarponics twice to us. The Solarponics representative, Lawler, was very patient with us and met with us in person at least 3 times. He was extremely well versed in all aspects of solar and went into great detail with us each time. He also did everything in his power to meet our budget needs. The second important thing that he did for us was to encourage us to research the PG&E rate plans to figure out other ways (in addition to the solar panels) to bring down our electrical usage and costs. We worked hard at updating a few very old appliances, signing up with a different PG&E plan and changing our electrical usage patterns so that the solar installation could cover most of our usage. (We only wish that we had known about the differences in the PG&E rate plans years ago and that changing a few bad energy habits was easy and not painful!) We have an all electric house (except for propane for our stove cooktop) and I am happy to report that our bills have gone from over $260/month before solar to under $5/month with solar so far. After the installation there were a few glitches in the inside controller and Solarponics quickly sent techs out to our house to take care of the parts that needed replacement. We highly recommend this company! read more

Solarponics installed a home solar unit for us. They were very professional, prompt, and communicative throughout the entire process. I was concerned about trenching near a large oak tree in our yard, but the workers meticulously hand-trenched the area, taking extreme care not to damage any roots. I was impressed by their attention to detail during the install. The only negatives were that during the install, some irrigation lines were damaged (which was unavoidable). However, no pictures of the quite complex connections were taken, and they were repaired and covered up without testing. The connections were incorrect, and so had to be dug up again and reconnected, but again were covered up without testing. Again they were incorrect and had to be dug up and reconnected a third time. On the plus side, the workers stayed well after hours, sometimes after dark, to correct the problem and did it all with courteousness and a positive attitude. So, the four stars vs five represents a slight lack of procedural decisions. Other than that, Solarponics delivered in spades. Very much recommended. read more
