Asked for an onsite appt for a solar quote - home is too new for Google earth roof image. Wanted to understand our options based on exposure, roof SF, our power provider, etc. I got pulled away to work for an emergency, with the expectation Tom could assess the roof, engage with my wife - her and I had a prepared list of questions. When he arrived, he was visibly angry I wasn't there. He refused to engage with my wife - unclear why - and he stormed off and left. I immediately followed up w/ a call to him, and tried to get him to reconsider. He proceeded to attempt to lecture me regarding failure to uphold commitments - excuse me? With that, I had to ask whether I was buying a major upgrade to my single largest investment or buying a used car? I was offended and my response offended him - so be it. Buyer beware. If you think their sales process is about developing an understanding of a client need, matching that need with a solution, and then asking the business - think again. This is cold, hard close sales tactics best left on the streets for time share sales or a used car lot. Most disappointing. read more

This company will be totally attentive until you sign the contract.We purchased solar panels from Solar Bear and I was guaranteed I would generate enough power that I would only pay the customer service fee from Duke Energy. Over a year later I still pay more, and Solar Bear said they did not figure their calculations correctly and therefore I didn't get enough panels. I was supposed to hear from the owner and our sales representative to address our problem...no response - overall their customer service is atrocious. After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau I finally received a reply, saying the representative did not see the trees in our backyard. Didn't see a yard FULL of trees? Their response to this mistake is cutting my trees down. Worst customer service ever! read more

Blake the owner has strung me along since the end of dec that he was going to add ten panels because my electric bill is still $200 He told me he would get the permit in may. Then in mid June, he said it just came out of engineering. Still nothing. I have been very patient with this company I have posted bad reviews over the past few month and they contact me to take them down. I do because of their promises and then nothing again I have done that three times. If this post is up it's because they still have not followed through do some searches of the names of people that posted good reviews. Some don't even have solar but claim they do. I have been mislead, flat out lied to. I took off work 5 days. This company told me they only needed two days to put my roof on. Which I have this in text messages between myself and Aaron(salesman) I have a very small house. It has been 5 days + They are still not finished. They promised me the dumpster would be removed by Friday. My neighbor let me use his side yard so they could have access to my backyard because I have animals. He is in jeopardy of getting a fine because he has a RV that he was told not to park in the driveway. He usually parks it on the side between our houses. Now he's probably going to get a fine because they have left for the weekend and left everything in the way. I have called four phone numbers and no one is offered to call me. Aaron has mislead me in so many other issues. Thank goodness I do keep text messages with him, I will be seeking legal council. read more

Worst company ever! Do not buy into the 5 star reviews they help customers write. The issues I have had with them are too many to mention, but the bottom line is this...they did not submit the application for permits correctly (this took 6 months to resolve only after I finally contacted the permit department myself) The salesperson told me what I wanted to hear and most of it was BS according to the people who actually installed the product. Let's just say that I had to pay my first loan payment for solar panels that are not active yet although I was promised everything would be completed by the beginning of the year. This is on top of the FPL bill I just paid. So I just dished out over $350 this month for power without working solar. Please use another company. When purchasing a new home Getting solar panels was at the top of our to do list! We reached out to solar bear schedule an appointment simple easy to do. The representative Kevin Harris was very knowledgeable & detailed. In his presentation video it states that if we chose not to choose solar bear he would simply shake our hand and walk away. We chose not to let him walk away and we signed the contract right then and there. Kevin Harris taught "us" exactly what solar panels do and how they work. Thank you Kevin Harris. Our Family was so excited to make the planet more Eco-Friendly. The day the crew arrived with the solar panels was exciting. The crew just took off into action flew up on the roof and just started laying down the panels they were fast,neat, clean, and very polite .Thank you crew! Our Family was also very impressed with Sean, Sean taught "us" newbies how the generator box and panel works, he even showed us how to upload the app and read it as well. Sean thank you as well! The sales reps and service providers where friendly and tried their best to meet our needs within their parameters. The company as a whole is unorganized when it comes to communicating with homeowners in advance schedules, inspections, and what the homeowners needs to know for next steps. We often would find out last minute (the day before) when things where going to occur which can be frusterating if you have to be there. In addition, they tried to install prior to our HOA approval-because according to them "HOA can not legally tell them no." The owner, Blake, was not professional in the slightest. Inspections failed twice and the third time they passed with stipulations. Our final check in, the person looked at the amount of panels and was confused on why our size of home had the amount of panels it did. They thought we needed more, and they were correct! OUr Teco bill the few months prior was a little over $600 and our current bill that had a full cycle with solar was $340. This did not meet our expectations and what we were sold. read more

So far it's been a few weeks, solar is installed but not activated. Don't even know what will it do. Their AC people are unreliable. Stay in touch with the CEO to get it done. They keep saying on their way but no Show. Maybe they come from Georgia? Just saying. get your act together people. A lot of people will see this review. Just found out you're not totally off the grid. We were told if Duke Energy loses power you don't have it too. We're still waiting. It will be 2 months since the panels were installed. Great service from start to finish. Just knowing that I will not be stuck paying anymore electric bills specially since the bills continue to go up it's wonderful. Solar bear team has been there to assist and answer any and all questions every step of the way. Installation of the panels was so professionally done, that I wish I could have hire them for something else. And to put icing o. What a nightmare. I had a sales person come out to measure, give estimate. She missed multiple areas so they had to come back. I was canceled on multiple times with no notice, the crew did not show multiple times, the sprayers missed an entire section in the master (found this out when the other guy came to measure again because apparently the sales people do not know how to measure or can determine if the job can actually be done), and the areas that were missed were included in the original quote. I was overcharged because almost half of the master was not completed and the foam guys never told me; I only found out when they sent the other foam guy who is in charge of all the other guys. My entire dining room and right side of the house was never sprayed even though it was in the original quote. I did receive a call from the "manager" who said she would call back in a week, never heard from her again. I would not recommend this company. The job started in November and was not completed until the end of March!! read more

They are great until they get paid , then they don't finish the job. My permit was approved over a month ago and they still have not submitted packet to the utility. They lied to the bbb about submission and a permit delays. They literally said county needed somthing else done when I got the final passed inspection day of. Stay away is my advice. read more

WARNING - If you don't want to read my long review just know that if you want SOLAR use ANY OTHER COMPANY but this one. You will end up paying double payments for months with no response. Now on to the review... I cannot express how disappointed I am in Solar Bear. This process started off so beautifully and seamlessly. From the quality and speed of the roof installation to the updates made to my power box and the Solar panel installation, I had exactly 0 issues. We had this all wrapped up end of September start of October, everything was so fast and efficient. Where the ball was dropped, was at the end of our project and we got our Permit package. We called the # on the form at the start of October and have been waiting for an inspector to come and finalize everything. We hadn't heard back for some time so we called back yesterday. The woman on the phone informed us that there was no inspection scheduled and that the job was incomplete? What? How? (Why didn't our concierge notify us of this?) We thought all work was done and ready to be inspected. She then hurriedly says "oh well someone will be out there tomorrow to complete the job?" We asked what was involved in "completing the job" she said the stickers were missing" that's it? So we waited an additional month for stickers to be put on? I could tell by her typing that she was trying to quickly arrange things for our project, we had obviously fallen through the cracks and she was trying to hurriedly rectify things. So now, we have to pay our Duke bill this month AND our new loan, which is unacceptable as there was more than enough time to complete this project. I totally understand that there may be overlap and would have been ok with paying, but stickers?! You're not going to tell me that these missing 'stickers' are going to cost me an addition $200 this month. This is a lazy mistake/oversight. My mother referred me and still hasn't her referral cash?! I have since referred you to my friends, which, I'm regretting. I just got my satisfaction survey and can't in all good conscience give a good review for Solar Bear, which is sad. I'll have to pay my new loan payment and Duke for probably two months now, based on how disorganized this process has become towards the end. Also, my husband reached out you multiple times, with no response. I loved the concept of a concierge but have definitely felt abandoned by your company towards the end. I've emailed the CEO, my sales person the sales team, nothing. Please use another company? PES was really nice and knowledgeable ask for NICO as I should have went with them. read more

Installed quickly. Had to make many calls for someone to explain over the phone how to turn the system on. Found out after two months that only half the system was working. Had to call for two weeks before someone finally came out. Then it took another week for them to fix the problem. At that time we were told a walk through should have been done. To date no walk through. They did call and leave a message after my husband emailed and asked who was going to pay the electric bills we shouldn't have had if the system was running properly. We feel like as soon As we signed the paperwork and Solar Bear got the money from the finance company that we were written off. read more

So I call and get a hold of Blake and I explain my situation. I get home, email him my Duke energy bill as requested and wait for a Solar Bear to show up. I don't know if one ever would have but at any rate, I get called into my second job so I text Blake to reschedule. No answer. Seriously. No answer. They cut a hole in the middle of our roof to put pipe down inside the house, it looks horrible, 15 feet of pipe in the middle of the roof away from the solar panels, they have not finished the job, they refuse to come out, they will not answer my questions, my salesman says once he sells the unit he is done. They have not cut the trees, the loan was not supposed to go into effect until they have finished but they put it through anyway saying the job is complete. We are out tens of thousands of dollars for a lazy company. read more

I had Solar Bear install new panels in two houses about three years ago. One set for myself and one for my in-laws. Since installation, it has been a growing regret. The biggest issue is the quality and reliability of their equipment (mostly the converter). In both houses, at least twice a year, the system goes down. As a result, it takes at least two weeks to get anyone out here to repair them, then to do the whole electric bill reimbursement from the weeks of being down, which is not even a guarantee as Solar Bear has been stingy even with this. This is a yearly routine, 2-3 times a year. I may have paid more into my electricity before the panels, but had a lot more reliability and consistency from the electric company. I have been noticing that the majority of these reviews in multiple sites are from recent installations which are less likely to have issues. Wait a couple of months and then the issues begin. I support green energy, but the solar industry needs more consistent equipment and an infrastructure that can reliably maintain existing installations. read more

I'm about to take these damn things off our roof and drop them off in the parking lot at your office and hire a company that will actually follow through with what they say when you spend $70,000 hiring them to do a job. I had several contractors come to my home to speak about doing solar after noticing a neighbors house with it and seeing it around town. Solar Bear was very professional from the appointment to understanding our situation, they informed us about tree removal and how to offset our electric bill, they were always courteous and on time in the installation also , yet the permit was another story dealing with the city I live in it took a little bit of time , at any rate we are excited to be generating power for our home through the sun it's really awesome and now we go to the mailbox for the electric bill we no longer cringe we smile, thanks to all the staff at Solar Bear!! read more

We spent almost $50,000 with Solar Bear. It has been a horrible experience from the very beginning. They were supposed to inspect and make sure that everything was working properly before they signed off... instead, now over ten months later (the attached receipt is what they provided us for our taxes, our installation was Oct 2018), we find out that six of our panels have never worked since installation. We only found this out when their tech came out for the yearly inspection. He was shocked, and promised that they would be out asap to correct this - as it explains why we have NEVER had the $0 electric bill that we were promised. Since then, we have had to call repeatedly and never be able to reach someone - their voicemails are usually full. No communication at all. Finally when we are able to leave a voicemail saying that we re about to contact an attorney, we receive a call- their techs come out and turn our system OFF completely so that they can go get parts - that was a week ago and they haven't returned or called us back. All this time we are completely on TECO electric. Solar Bear has never offered us remedy for the many months of paying for panels that never worked, and I'm sure they won't offer us anything for this amount of time that ALL of our panels aren't operational. I honestly wish that we had researched this company better before we spent this huge amount of money with them. Florida law should monitor companies like this to make sure that they are taking care of Floridians. read more

Buyer beware!! After a great sales pitch, we felt like our solar installers should be Solar Bear. We had to inform them of a fire code set-back they weren't taking into account and this should have raised red flags. Unfortunately, we thought it an honest mistake and continued with Solar Bear. They came out to install the system without letting us know AND without sending us any final plan layouts for approval (which were promised when we pointed out the still present fire code issue to a "carebear" while on the line with her and the sales person). Luckily, we were home for the installation to continue. Unfortunately, the sales rep couldn't make it for a possible bonus sales tent setup because he wasn't notified that they were coming, either. Upon going for a walk, I noticed that they were still in violation of the previously mentioned fire code. They had already drilled into our roof, but were told by the project manager to just repair it and change the layout...again, we didn't approve any plans. In fact, it was about a week AFTER the install that HOA sent us an email for the approved install. This was in July and we still don't have working solar because we haven't had an inspection because the county hasn't approved their plans...the same plans for the installation that they already completed. Why was work done on our home before final plan approvals? I feel like this is a step before acquiring permits. I'm hoping they have all permits. But, I don't have any answers because we haven't spoken to any project managers or superiors. We only get replies from customer service and all they can do is apologize. We only get updates when we initialize phone calls to them. How is it okay to not finish a $30,000 job for someone and feel like you don't have to keep them in the loop with updates? Maybe because they've already been paid? We've begun payments on a financed system that isn't working and was supposed to offset energy bills that we are still paying. Not to mention the worry that the final approved layout will NOT match what they've installed and will cause further damage to our roof. Trash service. read more

This company is horrible! I'm completely dissatisfied to say the least. I unfortunately went though Home Depot and they sent out Solar Bear. Now I'm having all of these issues because they didn't do the install correctly so it failed the inspection for the county. Home Depot is dragging and has not really helped at all. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs! Any other company HAS to be better than this sorry excuse for a company.
