One of the oldest and first cinema's to show film in London. I actually went to see a double bill of Hitchock. They seem to have a few good arthouse or classic double bills which breaks the mould. Lovely seats and setting. Screen not huge so anywhere from rows 3-10 I reckon are best. Don't go too far back if eyesight is not good. Because of the grand exterior and interior it gets a high mark. Coffee nothing to shout about but saw people getting wine but must say they need more seats around foyer as no where to sit behind 15 people I reckon. That they can improve on.

Before the days of TV, the cinema would show newsreels during World War Two, bringing news to Londoners whose loved ones were away fighting in the war. Owned by the University of Westminster, right next to the university near Oxford Circus. A 119 year old building, it was used by the university as lectures hall for the past 30 years, and has recently been rebuilt in an art-deco style and re-opened to the public showing independent and art house films, a place for film events, lectures and workshops. More suited to lectures, the seating is not that comfortable to watch a film, but the bar area is nice and spacious with a great selection of drinks around the world, to meet before or after a film.

This review is for the beautiful new screening room they have. It's intimate and was invite only so I guess it's for special occasions or internal showings or functions. I went to see Deadpool as part of soho create to showcase soho's vast array of creative industries in central London. Firstly the sound of course is unreal. Perfect. The film was shown for first time in Dolmy atmos and Dolby vision. It was like a home cinema with intimate seating of about 100 or so I think but with crisp picture (big screen, but sit 5 rows up for great view). The sound was brilliant and I cannot fault this cinematic experience. If you ever hear of a screening here you must go! No ifs no buts this made the film more epic than I even imagined. And yes it was a good film too. Way to go Dolby! And Ryan Reynolds...

I didn't understand why so many seats were empty right before the movie was going to begin, even though I saw them taken on the computer. There are several advertisements before the previews, so by the time the movie began, 26min. had already elapsed. - Minus 1 star for people coming on late cuz they can't see and end up sometimes in your way. The refreshment area was pretty standard- ice cream, candy, popcorn, wine, etc.

They have street performers doing various magic tricks nearby which really increases the crowds. The theater itself is spacious and has couches in the waiting area. Concessions aren't marked up like in the USA - everything in London is equally expensive :). I want to see Raid 2. The screen is decent sized, but the theater access is strange with several stairs going down and then up again. Like cinemas in Asia, they have assigned seating but you can switch if the theater isn't too crowded. Seats are comfortable, and are the rocking type. The other difference from USA theaters is that they show more commercials than trailers - that's okay since I find many UK commercials actually funny. BTW - Raid 2 is an excellent action flick that is pure adrenalin rush. A must for all martial arts fans. The fight scenes were intense and the violence over the top (makes Kill Bill look tame). I hope it does well in the USA - it left me speechless and many audience members here gasped at the intensity.
