I take piano lessons with St. Simons Music and I am learning so much more than I was before! My old…read moreteacher (not at St. Simons Music) was very by-the-book but my teacher at St Simons Music let's me choose which music I would like to play, and let's me learn at my own speed. A big inventory of guitars, amps, and lots of other fun instruments. The recitals are held at restaurants, such as Palm Coast and Mellow Mushroom. Due to COVID-19, I was doing my lessons over a Facebook messenger video call. When the curve flattened, I started back in the shop again, but only for a couple of lessons. Now that the virus has started getting bad again, lessons have been suspended. If you are thinking about taking piano, voice, trumpet, ukulele, violin, or guitar lessons, St. Simons Music is the place to go!

I took it another place to get an…read moreestimate, and I get plenty of recommendations for how to improve the flute in general (some new pads, cleaning, polishing, re-fitting one of the joints, and regulating) and a rather hefty price tag. Since I was saving up to get a better flute, I didn't want to put a huge amount of money into it. When I took it to Meis, I got to speak with the actual person would be repairing my flute. I got an immediate targeted assessment why my flute was not working. I got an education on the flute mechanism. I got an estimate less than half of what the other place would have charged me. And I got my flute back with the main problem fixed, along with several others. I'm very appreciative!

I really liked the more expensive guitars but they were well out of my price point. Still, it's a good experience to play on Martins, Larrivees, and Taylors. I asked him about a Jumbo Alvarez that I was interested in selling and he told me that is not a brand that sells well in the South. He said he had sold Alvarez guitars in another store and liked them but they go unnoticed in this area. The store front is very cool and there is a vinyl shop connected that has high prices but good stock. Not sure I could pay $45 for a vinyl. The gal encouraged me to bring in my classic rock vinyls but I probably don't want to part with anything good.

I am a 40 year beginner/ intermediate that sometimes takes a break for a year or two. Every time I go here I increase my education of guitars and music. I bought an Acoustic Alvarez that I play every day. They have a great selection of beginning and mid price guitars but also have high end Martins and Taylors. Prices are competitive with Revere and Sweetwater. What stands out for me is their patience and understanding with a beginner. Jeff, their guitar guy has a wealth of knowledge on all types of guitars and amps. The store does get busy! Give yourself some time if you are searching for an instrument.

These guys are not minimum wage cashiers waiting on you hand-and-foot. It appears that most of the reviews come from uptight affluent class customers who don't understand that this is a multifaceted business and things may take longer than 5 minutes. If you are so desperate to get your needs met than do your own research and buy online. This isn't the banana republic or burger king. If you're patient and have the capacity of a reasonable person you will be rewarded with the answers to your questions. I've only ever had good experiences with this store and ultimately saved myself a lot of heartache and time by getting to a dialogue with one of the employees. Go to the right department and if your so inconvenienced by the fact you need documentation and a credit check for an instrument than do the sensible thing and just buy a $150 guitar. I seriously doubt at 7 years old your kid is a sonic maestro or prodigious lyricist. Entitled morons. Portman's is awesome!
