Buyer Beware This is a review of Sock Monkey Photography and how poor their customer service is: CJ (my stepson) goes to a private school in the Galleria area. Sock Monkey Photography ~USUALLY~ does some good work. There are props, there is good lighting, good camera angles, the works. Every time we have had pictures taken by them at school, we would be given a few proofs to look at at then we would choose rather to buy them or not. THIS time we were asked to pay in advance before seeing a picture and we were given a picture of what the set up would look like. CJ did great, but the picture looked, well, unprofessional at best. Especially for a $50 picture (that, again, we don't get to see before). Here are my problems with the picture taken and also posted with this rant. 1. The picture does not look like the picture we were shown for expectations. 2. The backdrop/floor. There are other pictures of Sock Monkey doing the same shoot but with a floor backdrop in place, we received a wonky backdrop with the school's carpet. 3. That beard. 4. Santa's hat is yellowing. 5. Rain boots? 6. There is a single light source coming from the front left leaving awkward shadows on the right side of the image. 7. The backdrop is washed out. So, me being the reasonable person that I am, find a phone number and call to speak with someone about it. I called first last Thursday and then got a call back yesterday (not from the photographer). I was then told he would have to call me back. The photographer called me and was nice for about 15 seconds as I explained who I was, even bringing up that he knew my father (small word). It was a quick 15 seconds of nice-ness as the moment I expressed my disappointment with the photograph taken, I was then berated with a tangent of very aggressive and unprofessional excuses of why the image looked like such. He very obviously took it as a personal attack on his ego that I had the nerve to critique his image. He literally said "WELL, IT'S IN FOCUS! WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT?!" (probably the only positive thing to say about the image other than CJ's smile, to be honest). Now, I'm not an unreasonable guy. but $50 for a single picture that I don't get to see beforehand? And then you get aggressive on the phone? Now, he did offer to take refund $12 for the digital image. To which I told him, I'd rather just tell the world my experience. So, here it is. read more

Extremely unprofessional and terrible customer service. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with payment as they like to claim. The school is actually not EVER doing business with them again due to there unprofessional customer service towards there clients. An ENTIRE school! I tried credit card over the phone, but timing was never good for them to take it. They tried calling me back after 7:30pm when I was putting my children to bed. I even tried to explain this to them. I asked to leave a check at the school, they actually stated they don't accept checks and I still have the text message from her to prove it!!! They also wouldn't even release my pictures when the school offered ANY of the payments they mentioned below.. Literally, can't make this stuff up... Notice how long it even took them to respond.. BC they were just trying to cover up with a lie to make themselves look better.. Merry Christmas grinch! read more

They came to my daughter's preschool and the pictures of her came out terribly. Probably the worst photos of her I've ever seen and she is a cute kid. First of all, they used a completely white background without any props despite an email saying there would be props - frames or a bucket depending on the child's age. The proofs of her show her extremely unhappy and crying. Apparently they have very little experience concerning how to comfort nervous toddlers. The proofs were so horrible, we quickly handed them back to her teacher and said "No, thanks." A more eye-pleasing set and/or some props would have helped to keep kids engaged/busy and hence, less nervous. She's had school pictures before which turned out great so it was a great disappointment. Gave them 2 stars on the off chance that it wasn't just the photographer(s) but the school also not helping in the situation. Otherwise, would give them 1 star. read more

Sock Monkey Photography came to my daughters daycare to take Christmas pictures. They took the pictures in early December so I contacted them to see if the pictures would be ready by Christmas (to give to family). They responded to my inquiry swiftly and honestly. The pictures came in 5 days before Christmas! The picture they got of my daughter is amazing, the quality of the picture is awesome, and they came through before the holiday! On the down side I could not get the pictures enlarged or duplicated anywhere because they put "do not copy" copyright on the back of the prints which I find annoying... I already paid $70 for the pictures and they wanted another $50 just for a digital copy (the only way anywhere will copy or enlarge pics). So I'm happy with the product, but not happy that I can't enlarge or duplicate something that I paid $70 for... read more

Sock Monkey did photography for our volleyball club and did an AMAZING job. They were in and out quickly so it didn't take hours to get the pictures taken with all our teams. Though we had gotten amazing photos in the past (3 sets over the last year) we were displeased with our last set. We talked back and forth with the wife (owner) and the working business relationship seemingly was smooth for our current disappointment. But when my husband got ahold of the male photographer (owner) he exploded on him. No options for corrective editing etc were to be heard of... We left a review on Facebook where sock monkey decided to berade us, and insult our family and friends. They have had major attitude issues and unproffesionalism at the preschool; which the children have witnessed, and even affected my child's view of Santa ( he is 3! ). Again we were so very disappointed on how they chose to handle this situation as we had seen decent quality prior but something over the last year has changed and they are spiraling fast. read more

Sock Monkey Photography gave us an outstanding memory photo for my daughter's volleyball team. I LOVE the extras they do with graphics that match their team colors. No boring soldier poses with their team photos! Volleyball is an action sport and they capture that essence even in a still photo. The individual photo captured he enthusiasm for the sport as well!
