It was loaded with wings, nachos, fries, mozzarella sticks, meatballs, and several other appetizers. The presentation alone made it worth ordering, and there was plenty of food for the group. We sat outside and really enjoyed the patio. Scottsdale is hot, but the constant water misters helped a ton and kept the seating area comfortable. Overall, this was a fun atmosphere and a great place to enjoy food, drinks, and time with friends.

We were in the area looking for a different bar to watch Sunday NFL Game-day and thought we would…read moregive it a try since we saw several TV screens as we drove by. We walked in and for a Sunday afternoon, it was pretty empty. However, we thought why not, plenty of game day viewing options with all the TV's. It was decorated cute for Halloween and the bartenders seamed to know most the customers. Appeared to be a regulars bar. We sat down at the bar and ordered drinks. I didn't catch her name but the bartender was very friendly and attentive. Right after the drinks arrived the music started. It was so loud! You could feel the base in your chest! We could hardly hear each other talk over the music. Turns out there was a DJ we didn't notice when we walked into the bar. Now, the DJ's music playlist was great. However, it was so loud and played over all the games except they would pause during one of the games once in a while. I suspect they were trying to draw in a crowd but clearly that was not the way to do it when it's game day and people were obviously there to watch the games. We wanted to try something to eat off the menu but only stayed for a drink and left. It was just a miserable atmosphere with the loud music at 1pm in the afternoon. Lastly, we noticed the receipt had a "venue fee" charge. What is that and why? Why are we paying to sit at a bar? Just be aware of added fees charged to your ticket.

I took it as a sign. It was meant to be. I immediately sat down, closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and left work behind. The AC came on at the perfect time. I cool down with a cup of water first, and explored the menu. Probably because of my defeated and exhausted look, the bartender came straight to me. I ordered the sour from their rotating menu. I appreciate the attentiveness of her, but also appreciated that she let me be during the visit. Seems like there were some usual guests there, so they were chatting away. I also left with a few cans of beer to-go. I love that they have a fully stocked fridge for the to-go needs!

While it's not in the heart of Old Town, it's within walking distance. We stopped by on a Thursday around 9:30 p.m. While we were on foot, I noticed that they have a parking lot. Ambiance (4/5): Relatively small for a brewery, but your typical chill, brewery vibes. They have some seats at the bar, some high tops, and a small patio. We sat out on the patio since the weather was nice. The seats out there are a bit uncomfortable, but we couldn't pass up on patio weather. They have free water in the corner which is always a plus so you don't have to wait in line. Service (5/5): The bartender working was super nice. It's always appreciated when servers go above and beyond in providing a great experience. He was friendly, efficient, and attentive. I couldn't have asked for more in my service experience at Goldwater. He exceeded my expectations. Food (N/A): I already ate previously so no food for me. There was a Mexican food truck in the parking lot. Drinks (4/5): I love trying local brews. At breweries, I typically get a flight so I can try out a variety of beers. This time though, I went with a pint. I couldn't say no to the Sour Rangers. I grew up watching the Power Rangers, so that was all the motivation I needed. An added bonus was that this beer is a sour. Not something you have every day, nor a style of beer that you come across very often. So I had to take advantage of the opportunity. And it was a good one. Goldwater is my type of place. I'd definitely return the next time I'm in the area!

We had a nice table set up outside between the bar and big screen tv/stage area. There were sports on so that was cool to be near the TV. They have Giant Connect 4 and Cornhole which the kids, as well as adults enjoyed playing. It was perfect for our group. Our server was Allyson and she was the best- upbeat, attentive, genuinely nice. She took great care of us; checking on us and she was so accommodating. We had mainly drinks but did order some food. They have a fun menu with catchy phrases for sections such as "Opening Acts" and "Still Fittin' in Jeans". Cool food names like, "Sticky Fingers" for one of their burgers with bbq sauce. The "Cluck Around & Find Out" Chicken Strips were delicious- great panko breading. Burgers were a hit. Later they had live music, a guy playing guitar. He was entertaining, had a good voice and took requests. I can't comment on any other part of the place since we spent all our time outside. It was getting a lot more crowded when we left by 8pm. Great time in Scottsdale on a Friday Evening!

I Ubered but like most of Old Town Scottsdale, there's plenty of free street parking. You may need to circle around during peak hours, but you'll find a spot. Ambiance (3/5): Pour Decisions is an open air bar, and a pretty expansive one at that. Beyond the open-air area, there's also a spacious patio and a rooftop. I love a good rooftop. With it being Phoenix, when the weather cooperates of course. The aesthetic of the bar was too "Instagram culture" for me with neon witty quotes and such, but some people are into that. Service (2.5/5): It took us about 10 minutes for the bartender to greet us while we were sitting at the bar. It got to the point where we were wondering if anyone was working. Luckily, after a slow start, service was pretty decent after that. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet on this visit. Drinks (3/5): The menu matches the vibe. The cocktail list has some pretty fun options, but of the overly sweet variety that lacks sophistication. I couldn't help but order a cocktail that was served in a cowboy boot-shaped glass with a popsicle in it. Fun for the novelty of it but it was a mediocre drink. While I am being a little critical, Pour Decisions has its purpose. If you're looking for a spot to hang out in a big group, Pour Decisions is solid given how large of a space it is.

Updated review: Outgrown…read more Definitely not the same spot I remember from when I used to frequent it. Stopped in a few times and unfortunately the vibe just isn't what it used to be for me. At one point I asked for change for pool and a water. The water showed up, the change never did. Not a huge amount of money, but little things like that leave an impression. A few of the bartenders have a certain je ne sais quoi.... unfortunately not the warm, welcoming kind. There's a level of attitude that just doesn't match my personal experiences or memories of this place. The crowd has changed too. Different energy, different vibe, and maybe just not one I blend with anymore. Suppose I've grown up and maybe it's time to move on. It's a shame because this place was genuinely a staple for me and earned those five stars once upon a time. Back then, it was the staff and the atmosphere that made it. Of the latest visits, the only person who carried that same familiar energy was Derek. He wasn't even behind the bar, but as always, it was a pleasure seeing him. Not the five-star spot for me that it once was, but maybe it's just become a place for the next generation.

A HIDDEN GEM IN A SEA OF OVERPRICED MEDIOCRITY…read more I genuinely do not understand why more people aren't talking about Karsen's Grill. Everything I've eaten here has been fantastic. The salt and pepper wings are TO DIE FOR. The burgers are excellent, the fries are awesome, the onion rings are phenomenal, and the cocktails never disappoint. Seriously, I have yet to order something here that hasn't made me think, Why isn't everyone eating here? And then there's the service. I've had the same servers every time I've visited, and they're consistently wonderful: friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and genuinely good at what they do. They know the menu, they can make recommendations, and they make you want to come back. Imagine that! This is a small, unassuming place with about six tables and a bar. It's not trying to be the hottest reservation in Scottsdale. There's no pretentious bullshit, no need to drop $200 on a steak just to tell people you ate somewhere expensive, and no relying on trendy vibes to distract you from mediocre food. And THAT is what I love about this place. Scottsdale has no shortage of restaurants where the prices are astronomical, the atmosphere is carefully curated for Instagram, and somehow the actual food ends up being the least memorable part of the experience. People will wait forever for an overhyped restaurant, pay a fortune for a meal that's just okay, and convince themselves it was amazing because the place was popular. Meanwhile, Karsen's Grill is over here serving food that is genuinely, legitimately GOOD. Give me great food, a well-made cocktail, and staff who actually care about the experience over another overpriced, overhyped dining destination any day of the week. Karsen's is the kind of place you stumble across and immediately want to keep coming back to. If you actually care about what's on your plate more than how much it costs or how impressive the restaurant looks on social media, go to Karsen's Grill. Your wallet will thank you, your taste buds will thank you, and you'll wonder why the hell you ever bothered with some of the other places in Scottsdale. Just please don't let the secret out too much. I still want to get a table.
