The Field Office at Isom Rd in San Antonio is extremely unprofessional and rude. I called twice, waited on hold 30 minutes both times. Both times, the same person hung up on me intentionally. Next time, the conversation will be recorded or filmed if I go in person. Then, if needed, I will contact local news in San Antonio with how much of a scam the SSA in San Antonio is. After reading some of the reviews and the current government shutdown, I was expecting this to be a long morning, I could not have been more wrong. I arrived early as recommended by another reviewer with all my documentation. I only waited 5 minutes before the security guards checked me in. They were very nice and I was off to talk to a specialist. I showed her the form I needed submitted and she immediately sent me window 37. The person who helped me couldn't have been nicer and was very informative. I was out of there in 25 minutes. read more

There is a little security guard there that is on an ego trip. Asked to search in my purse and without hesitation I handed him my purse. Forgot I had a small Swiss Army knife. Well the little security guard with big eyes acted like it was a gun. I'm a 65 yr old lady, if I was going to threaten anybody with a small Swiss army knife , I wouldn't have handed him my purse. After he pulled out the small SA knife and set it on the table, I reached over so I can close it because it was open. Little security guard on ego trip grabbed my hand and pulled me outside and told me I was not allowed to go into their office again. I was not rude , but I was shocked by how he treated me, just because of a sm SA knife. Little security guard with big eyes must be very insecure with woman. Men like that are insecure and need to make up for their lack of manhood. Other security guards were polite , except for little insecure security guard trying to feel like a big boy. What a joke?? Well my friend and I couldn't believe it. It was funny how he acted like Barney Fife, Mayberry's sheriff. People need to watch out for little insecure security guard with big eyes on an ego trip. The disabled push bar doesn't work to open the door so I was forced to open it myself. Ample parking but most people didn't have placards that were parked in the spots. Security was more interested in opening my wallet and looking at my creditials than anything else under the guise of inspecting it. They asked if I had an appointment and I told them clearly I didn't. The kiosk also asks if you have an appointment and prints a ticket: why is that I wait 1 hours to be told they only service you if you have an appointment? There's no sign indicating it and the website still says walk in is available but you may have to wait. So they the website and employees tell you different things. The letter I got clearly says I can show the agent my documents in person and said nothing about needing an appointment to do that. I asked for an appointment for ny current location after waiting 2 hours to speak to someone and then tell me they can only make an appointment where my address is listed. So I can't go to an office if I am traveling or deployed? I don't know why they make things so difficult when they don't have to be. One side didn't know what the other says. I even spoke to an agent on the phone before getting to the desk and he said I would be serviced since I got a ticket. Terrible service here and online. read more

If I could give it negative stars I would. The Social Seciurity office is a joke. First it didn't open until 9:30, then had to wait an hour and a half just to speak with someone. She told me take a seat and someone would call me up in a bit to schedule an appointment. "A bit" turned out to be 2 1/2 hours later...I waited 5 1/2 hours and then they still couldn't schedule the appointment. The SS Dept as a whole is the most inept agency in our government. It's filled with people who hate their job and offer no or very little help and absolutely no compassion for the people who built this country! No wonder older hate the agency. If you know what you need and the documents needed for your service it's a very quick process. Sometimes they can take awhile but very nice staff and security. Highly recommend waiting 30-45 minutes prior to opening to be seen quickly. read more

Evonne the black woman at window 8 is the nastiest person I've ever encountered. She was having a personal conversation with the woman next to her while I've been waiting for hours. I see why the lobby is crowded because the staff having a personal party btw I Dropped off an appeal letter in January and No One Got it,,keep in mind I put it in THE DROP BOX AT ISOM OFFICE THIS Is Horrible!!! They have 12 windows and only the guy at window 12 is working. all the other workers are just sitting. there's at least 40 people waiting this gave me anxiety attack. Isom Road local number. I got hung up on twice in the past 30 minutes after waiting about 15 minutes for each connect. Looks like they might have some call center specialist issues to look into. Once might be a fluke but it seems they might have a widespread issue. These things seem to happen when you have untrained and unprepared specialists as a group. It's a government office. you sign in on a computer, get a number, fill out a form, take a seat and wait. My SS card is on it's last legs so I needed a replacement. The wait was an hour (I had no idea tax day drew such a crowd here). Once I was called I was taken care of in a very friendly and efficient manner. My new card arrived 5 days latter. I'm a happy camper. When I was there I found out you can get replacement card online. Overall a painless experience. read more

As I entered the office building they have you wait in line outside like cattle, then as you're ushered inside like a criminal the Security Guards ask for your personal items, they are rude and arrogant. I was told on the phone that it would be 2-3 weeks for a telephone appointment. So....I decided to go into the office. I arrived at 8:15 am and was about 30th in line. At about 8:30 am they opened the doors and let ten people through. Apparently they process ten at a time through the doors cause after about Ten more minutes another ten went through. I finally got to enter the security checkpoint. Once I entered they checked me in at 8:50 and sent me to a cubicle. At 9:00 am the representative opened the window. I as able to complete my application with minimal difficulty ( a very loud person was a few cubicles away that made it hard to hear my representative and there was much repeated conversation. Masks were required inside and plenty of hand sanitizer was available. As I left I could see that they were only letting a few people in at a time (line was about 30 people outside. I was out in 45 minutes. Much better than pre-COVID wait time. read more

Showed up on a Friday morning about 20 minutes before opening. Wow! Long line already. I was impressed by the staff I interacted with. I believe they know that people are easily frustrated by Federal operations. The security team came outside and communicated what to expect clearly. There was extra help inside to facilitate getting your number and calling out numbers and locations for all to hear. They did their best to expedite the process and provide a good service. read more

The absolute worse SS office. The wait is hours on hours just to be seen the first time. You have to make sure that you have all of your paperwork or they will kick you back to wait hours again. Even with an appointment your told to sit down because they are running behind but having only opened 15 minutes ago. They also have a TSA style security gate that you have to go through. Just strip down airport style. I made them very made because I forgot to take off my belt in uniform. So for a bid dose of government bureaucracy, this is a must visit place. If security doesn't cuff you for trying to sneak a Gerber in the hour long wait is sure to be a lasting memory for the kids. And don't forget to visit the restrooms. While clean they have a odd smell about them. read more

I've been helping my dad set up his benefits since everything can be complicated. The first time we went in person our kiosk number DIDNT EXIST so we had to get back in line (waited around 4hrs). I've also tried calling multiple times and the wait is over an hour IF they even pick up. We applied for benefits back in late January and have not received anything in the mail to even show that we submitted the application. We're about to hit 6 weeks only counting M-F operation and still nothing. He's also locked out completely of the online service (due to the office having to lock it from fraud issues) so our only options are face to face or phone calls. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

If there was a zero rating available that's what I'd give this office .They treat you like they are giving you their personal paycheck. once you make it inside from the hot sun ( they only allow a few in at a time ) they treat you like you're waiting to see an inmate in prison. (But I digress)After carefully reviewing the criteria needed to replace my son's Social Security card, The employee made every effort to send us away because she was unfamiliar with an official NY State benefit card ( it triples as a healthcare insurance , snap, benefit card) she attempted to silence me every time I explained it was a valid form of identification according to the document posted on the wall. She then takes it up w- her supervisor apparently incorrectly explaining the situation and form of ID, he informed her it was not going to work or at least that's what she told us ... I continued to advise her that the document on wall listed his exact form of I'd is valid until she finally grew so frustrated she threw up her arms in the air fetched her Supervisor to which he came over to us and I then thoroughly explained why it was valid. FINALLY after their side bar conversation he gives the thumbs up. ALL THAT FOR A SS card replacement. Over the years I've been to quite a few SSI offices and never had this experience... IDk maybe she was burned out and just didn't wanna work at Day. Also, While waiting to be seen , others sitting next to us were full of unresolved horror stories about this specific office. I was there by 8:20 on Tuesday morning because I was told Monday and Friday is always busy. When I got there, there was a line of about 25 people already. Oh boy. Around 8:45, the door opened and security check started. It went very smooth. Then they helped us with check in using their kiosk. We're there for the social security card. Around 8:50, we're sent to the left side of the wing. They had many divided windows, I was #27! Other folks for the social security benefits and such had to sit and wait in the lobby area till their number was called. Within 10 mins, our window opened and the lady was dressed nice and polite. She was very professional and we're out by 9:10. When we walked out, we didn't see any line to check in. If you are there for the social security card, you may not have to be there so early like we did. The service was very quick. However the benefit side was so full. I will give them 5 stars because of their professionalism and cleaned of the building. The parking was pretty, maybe at least for 50 or more. read more

waiting on the phone for two hours to schedule an appointment 2 months later. the day for the appointment arrives and they sit me in front of a phone explaining someone will call me. so I sat on the phone for two hours for someone who could have helped me at that point for someone else to call me at the office. there was no one there to assist. do not schedule any appointments here. the office manager is absolutely worthless as a manager. she was not nice polite or helpful to the issue I had and no one seemed to see an issue with waiting so long for just a phone call, something I could have taken at home and not in an office. read more

This office pretends they can do things to help but then find excuses for not being able to do things. I've been trying to get my daughters names changed. Met all the requirements, brought all the paperwork , then they tell me I need my minor child to get a state ID which she can't get under the correct name without the SSN being changed. When I arrived on a Thursday morning at 8:10 there were already a dozen people in line. By 8:20 there were 30 of us, and by 8:40 around 50 waiting to get in. At 8:40 they started letting us go through security. No weapons (pocket knives, mace, scissors etc.), digital cameras or recorders allowed inside; cell phones must be silenced. Belts must be removed before going through the metal detector. Purses, backpacks & briefcases are hand-inspected upon entry. No food or drink allowed inside except bottled water. There were two very nice people asking why you were there, helping you figure out where to go and printing off tickets with assigned window numbers. There are plenty of seats in the waiting area, and public restrooms. At precisely 9:00 am they opened the windows (there are 36 of them) and begin helping people. The fellow who assisted me was competent and pleasant to deal with. I had a simple matter and was out of there in 5 minutes. Oh, and there are 75 to 80 parking spaces available in the open-air lot, free of charge to park as long as you need to. read more

And their phone system makes me furious as you will call and have a robot blather onto you for 4 minutes before you get to get transferred to someone just to hear your call is very important to us all agents are full right now and assisting other callers and call back at a later time or a different day and then hangs up on you. Story time: I went in to change my name on my SS card since I recently got married and initially came in at 11:45am. I realized I forgot documents (like an idiot) and went back to retrieve them. When I got back to the SS office at 2pm, my number had already been called (of course I missed it by only 5 people, ugh!) BUT I got my new number and only waited 45 minutes! The experience was excellent! Not only was getting there late a short wait, but the lady that helped me out at station 7 was so incredibly sweet. The process was fairly quick! Marlon was professional and patient with me. I feel they could splurge on new dryers for the bathrooms but hey at least the bathrooms were clean. Don't bring items that wouldn't pass through airport security like knives or pepper spray cause they ain't having it, you will not be allowed thru. It gets pretty packed so a nice game of Sudoku or a book will help pass the time. read more

I have been calling multiple times and when I think someone is picking up my call after waiting 10 minutes, either they hang up the call or machine is faulty. It happened twice in a row. This type of service is unrealistic and should not be the only way! Go back to in person service since we know they can't close their window on you like a phone call. read more
