It's truly humbling to come across a staff member who genuinely cares and goes the extra mile to make sure you don't leave without being helped--unless there's absolutely nothing more they can do. I was assisting a client with obtaining her benefits that had been sent to the Treasury, and after visiting multiple Social Security offices, we kept being told we were at the wrong location or that documents hadn't been received. It was a frustrating process, to say the least. Finally, we met someone who truly paid attention and recognized that my client needed help. By appointment ONLY now. I went in as a walk in and was turned around twice to make one online. So I did and it was a month out. Month went by and I came back and checked in on the kiosk. My number was called by a rude man and he asked if I had an appt, I did, he still wanted to confirm if it was indeed at that location my appt. I had to log in right in front of him and it gave me an error message. He said he would go to the back to confirm. I told him I called and scheduled it here at this location at this time. I wrote it down, texted it to my husband and even had it on my calendar. He came back later and said my appt isn't in the system at any location. I still waited and got called, the man at the window kept saying I didn't have an appt but I explained the situation and he was kind enough to help me out. I saw so many negative reviews before my visit yesterday that I was really anxious about going down there, but I wish I wouldn't have been! We arrived at 1:53 for a 2:00 pm appt and walked out at 2:08 with the result we needed! The woman who helped us was so kind, I was with my child and she was really lovely to my child as well. Patient, helpful, and just wonderful, I wish I had gotten her name We filled out our application/paperwork online and made an appt online before coming down, then checked in at the kiosk and were called up almost immediately after sitting down. My mom had an appointment via phone. They called 30 minutes earlier than expected. She did not answer because the caller ID showed up as Public Services. To avoid a supposed scam call she did not answer. A voicemail was left by social security stating that they would call back in 15 minutes, she never heard back from them! We decided to go in person to speak with someone regarding her missed appointment (at no fault of my mom). When we got there, we were told to stand in line (one for appointments and one without an appointment). For those standing in like without an appointment, we were given a flyer for a number to call to schedule an appointment. The lady handing out the flyers stated that they had open appointments tomorrow, next week...trying to appease people and get rid of them. People left excited to hear that we can make an appointment by call in the number in hopes of getting a next day appointment. We got home and called the number. We waited a little over 2 hours to finally talk to someone. Once I spoke to the lady on the phone she stated that as far as she can see on her calendar, there are no appointments through February. I asked her to book an appointment for February and she said she couldn't. She said they are Booked through February but the local office may have openings that she is not aware of and she offered the local phone number for the office. I explained everything that happened and that we tried to call the local office but nobody answers. She then stated that she would email them and they will get back to us in 7 business days. Today will be the 7th day....we'll see. I'm so disappointed in this office...my dad passed away in October and they aren't making things any easier for us...we waited for 2 months already and now they have us waiting even longer. My first review of 2024 and it's of the Social Security office. Womp, womp. Reading the other reviews and having to have dealt with government agencies before, I thought this was going to be a terrible process. I made an appointment to change my name (recently married!) but I realized the first available was after the 45 day deadline so I decided to take a day off from work and give walking in a try. I came in about 30 min before opening on a Thursday. There was a long line of people already but I was able to mobile sign in. I'd recommend this. It made me third in line actually. About 10 min before the office opened, the security guard and a worker came out to organize the line and answer questions. The opened both doors so that us mobile check in people could sit and the other people could form the official line. I sat in the large waiting area for less than 5 min before my number was called and I headed back to the window. 10 min later, I was out the door. This was super easy. I won't say that it will be this easy everyday but I was very shocked at how quick, easy and painless this was. I won't say the employees were happy or nice, because they weren't, but they weren't mean or rude either. read more

This place and the people inside are very unprofessional. From the moment I stepped in, I felt that they were trying to get rid of me. I went with my 81-year-old mom, who has dementia, and at the kiosk, I signed in with my social security number since I could not reach for my mom's in time, and I was given an option to do so. Once they called my number, they provided me with a different one, which required me to wait. Mind you, I made this appointment a month ago. Finally, a gentleman named Mr. Massey called me a second time and scheduled an appointment. He rushed me and said he couldn't look up my mom's Social Security number; luckily, I had it, but I had to retrieve it from my phone. I clarified that I couldn't hurry, as I needed to make sure my mom sat comfortably and securely. Anyway, I was not the only customer with a problem with this individual; a lady was having problems with him, and he disregarded her. She asked for a supervisor, and he would rather not help her. Came for a new ss card / name change. I filled out the application online prior to visiting the office; I do wish making an appointment was an option. I brought the necessary documents and made sure to arrive at least 15min before the office opened. The parking spaces are limited and a lot of people line up early. There are two lines: one for in-person check-in, and one for mobile check-in. For mobile check-in, you need to scan the QR code (posted at the office entrance); you can do the mobile check-in before they officially open, and you will be given a ticket number. However, for in-person check-in, you will need to wait and use the kiosks inside after they open the doors at 9:00AM. I waited about 45min before my ticket number was called. Then I was done after about 5min. Everything seemed organized and orderly. read more

Employees seemed so unhappy to be there, like the job sucked the life out of them. The guy I got to try and renew my disability with Medicare was somewhat empathetic and at least got me a form to try to reapply to keep my Medicare. It's been a month and when I called, the lady said they just sent it to a processor, as it was labeled high priority. I mean they gave me only 2 1/2 months to figure this out, and so I have 3 weeks til they give me a decision, otherwise I need to buy a new insurance and get a new Pa on my meds. I'm thankful they rushed the process, but they should've allowed more notice to get this sorted before open enrollment. read more

As these things usually go, I had planned on a long day. Much to my surprise things went fairly quick. The associate that I ended up with, was very kind and patient. He un expectantly went above and beyond help I expected. Not to mention how kind he was. I appreciated that. Perhaps going forward, the "Q" code, can be introduced to the awaiting crowd earlier or possibly posted on the door, with instruction. Many were shocked that after such a long wait in line, they would then be passed up by those who had just arrived. However, I found that things moved faster for me -that I had just held my ground. I was approved for disability in March. 6 year fight. Had to go down there to see why, in Sept, I am still waiting on a payment. 7 months later. It took 5 hours to get out of the house because it's not easy for me. They said they could help me it's out of their hands. I call every week, they say, can't help me. Who's going to help when I am out on the street next month ? 6 years amd 7 no ths and still can't get a dime. I have had 3 major back surgeries on one neck surgery but I still try to call you. Today, It's my first time to go to SSA Simmons St and it was awesome. I've waited for 2 hours before the doors were opened at exactly 9am. I scanned the QR code outside the door, lined up to the in person sign in on the left side. Entered the room scanned the QR code got my ticket and after 5 minutes I was called and finished my transaction after another 5 minutes. Was behind one other person got to the teller no more than 3 minutes gave marriage certificate and application, he than asked for a blood sample. I went there to drop off a form. Went to the kiosk and said I did not have an appointment. After answering several questions, it gave me a number. I thought cool, they had openings. I got called after several hours of waiting. At the window, the lady said do you have an appointment. I said no, but the kiosk went ahead and gave me a number. She said that did not matter. I explained why I was there and she refused to help me. She said I needed to make an appointment. she handed me a paper with the local number to call for an appointment. I left knowing that there needs to be some efficiency work done at that office. So, I called that number, requesting to talk to someone, waited another 30-45 minutes. The gentleman said I should just go into the office and drop off the form. He said I do not need an appointment. I said I was just there and you do.......he could not believe it. The woman who assisted me was so kind and helpful. These workers are seriously under paid for dealing with what they deal with. As I sat I was reading and also observing. Not a review just helpful hints get here at 8:30-8:40 if you want to just get it out the way they'll put the QR CODE out scan it check in then you wait till your number is called. If you don't know what a QR code is that means you'll need help so come early and get in line they'll check you in when the doors open at 9:00. They do call out the numbers and text you so if you need to step outside its fine. The list of approved ID requirements are different than those listed online so if you're not sure call. If you can I would suggest going around 2:30-3:00 there will be less people lined up and less waiting I got my ticket number and was seen with in 15 mins. read more

I had to go in TWICE due to unknown information, which I don't understand why they can't explain what's everything you need the moment you don't have ONE thing. I WAIT for about another 1-2 hours and when I finally got to window 3 with the half bald looking ass man, he RUDELY tells me I couldn't change my name due to needing a court order. Instead of explaining to me nicely and like a decent fucking human being, he decided to be a dick and be rude. I don't care if they work for the fucking government, you don't talk to people like that. I wasn't being rude, I was speaking nicely until he raised his voice at me. I only was coming in because I haven't been able to acess my info online for years and wasn't getting anywhere over the phone. I came at 1:30 on Wednesday (note they used to close at Noon on Wednesdays but are now open all day) and there were zero parking spots! I had to wait in the fire zone until someone left. (Plenty of handicap parking, so no worries there) There were about 5 people ahead of me (the end of the line was in the doorway, it looked pretty long) but I was surprised at how quickly it went. Granted, this is just to check-in, the waiting room was practically full so I wasn't expecting a quick trip. I told the guy at check-in what I needed and he handled it right then and there!! THIS IS THE WORST SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE, NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!! They messed up my benefits and paid incorrectly "critical payments", and they missed a month! The month of April 2023! They won't admitt to this error and I have gone into office numerous times and have called. They ended my medicare part B in January and then told me it was reinstated in july 2023, and the state confirmed saying the state would pay for my medicare part B, but the Social Security office tells me that the state isn't paying for Medicare part B on my behalf, back and forth is all I get from Social security office NEVER A STRAIGHT ANSWER!! My experience was great. Arrived at a 2:20 pm on a Friday and was expecting the worse because the parking lot was full and the waiting area was pretty close to capacity. However, after a two minute wait in line, I got up to the window, explained my problem, turned over my paperwork, watched the nice guy at the window do magic on the computer and was back in my car and heading home by 2:35 pm. After reading the reviews, listening to friends who have had less than stellar experiences, and eavesdropping on folks in the waiting room, I would make the following recommendations: 1. Do as much as you can on-line or complete forms before you go. 2. Call before you go and make sure that the office you want to go to offers the service that you want. 3. I called to find out what I needed to do to get my name changed after marriage. The girl I spoke to told me I had to mail in my drivers license and marriage certificate. And it would be mailed back to me when I asked how long she said up to 10 weeks. What person is going to go 10 weeks with no form of Id ? That is insane. And they don't even give proof that they have your stuff I asked if I can go there to just have them make copies. She said no .
