We had a really frustrating experience at this Social Security office while applying for an SSN for a P-3 visa holder. Staff didn't seem familiar with the P-3 visa category and repeatedly insisted a work authorization card was required, even though SSA guidance indicates it isn't necessary for this visa type. This led to a lot of confusion and unnecessary stress during what should have been a straightforward process. Several interactions also felt dismissive and unhelpful, which made the experience even more difficult. Hopefully the office improves training around non-immigrant visa categories so applicants receive accurate information and a smoother experience moving forward. read more

No water in ladies restroom to wash hands, when I made the security officer aware he could care less and said people shut it off under the sink. I told him I felt that was unacceptable and I was going to post online, A few minutes later he said he turned the water on! read more

Need a replacement card only but plan on sitting on the phone for over 2 hours just to try and make an appointment once you fill out the on line application. I've tried numerous times throughout the day including when they first open and still sit on hold forever. They need to allow people to order on line and have one mailed instead of calling if they are 20,000 people short staffed. read more

Unlike a DMV, this is a government system that works very smoothly. At least here at this office. Came in to fill out paperwork and found the system to actually work well. After walking in you check in at the kiosk which gives you a waiting number according to your needs. The wait was not bad and answers were provided quickly. Completely ridiculous. Tried to get ahold of them on line. Lost password so they gave me a one time code to get in. Put that in and hit next. The next page wanted the one time passcode they gave me and I just put it in, didn't write it down and then I forgot it so I couldn't put it in on page two. I've applied for new cards but never get them. I'm guessing they don't forward them. I live in a condo complex that doesn't get post office delivery service so when they sent the card, the PO must have sent it back. I explained this to the PO and they told me to fill out a card that says when mail comes in addressed to me at this address, put in in my PO Box. They can't just put it in my box, they have to send it back to the previous post office and they will send it to my PO box but this is considered forwarding and maybe they don't forward cards so that's why I didn't get it. I tried filling out another card that just said hold mail for that address but because the other card I filled out to send it to my PO Box is still valid, it seems all the important things I send for the PO uses the forward to PO Box card and if it says do not forward, they send it back. I've gotten notices my package was returned and I asked the PO why did you send it back. Their answer was, I don't know. I can't sell my car because when I moved the movers lost my title along with my SS card. I applied for a new one and they don't forward so because there's no PO deliveries here and I had to get a PO box, they can't send it there because that's considered forwarding and they don't send things to PO Boxes. I'm on SS so I can't afford the gas to drive to Boston to the registry and it will cost hundreds to pay to park, plus the hotels I have to stay at because it's too far to drive straight thru so I have to rent a room and I'd have to rent another one to stay in while I try to get my title. I'm not a lucky person I guess. I was in my new home and my heat/cooling unit went after a month, so that cost me $10,000 for a new one, the movers cost me $10,000. The people buying my old condo couldn't get financing thru the VA because they wanted so much info and the place that managed the condo I was selling them closed so they couldn't fill out the info. It was supposed to take 3 weeks to close but it took 4 months. I spent all kinds of money on boxes and bubble wrap and waited so long to close. The realtor called and said the people found a new bank and they will finance all but $10,000 and if I wanted to sell, I'd have to drop the price by $10,000. I did and got hit with all the other $10,000 hits. I was here a month and went to the hospital for a procedure and the surgeon said he found cancer and I'd have to go for radiation treatments and chemo. That took months to finish so I couldn't work on any of my other problems and having cancer isn't cheap. So now I can't sell my car if I had to and I don't know why I didn't get all the other SS cards I applied for and I'm afraid to apply for ANOTHER ONE because I read there's a lifetime limit on how many cards I can get and I'm afraid to go over the limit. If everyone didn't make things so difficult, maybe I could get things done. read more

This office is conveniently located in Conway, S.C. If you've lost your Social Security Card, need a name change, apply for Medicare or any other issues you have, this office will try to help. Handicapped parking is conveniently located near the door. Upon entering, a guard will guide you to check in via a computerized machine. A slip with a letter and 3 digit numbers are provided as your place in line.. You can check in there whether you have an appointment or not. If you are fortunate enough to get a chair, I'm guessing there are approximately 20 available in the seating area, as well as standing room. A TV is provided with commercials, as well as numbers that correlate to people's slips of who is being taken care of and who is being called. There is an audio call of the slip letter and number as well. My wait was well over an hour. A woman sitting across from me, was developing the sweats and she told her accompanying friend, that her sugar was running low. Being I'm a former R.N., I realize the emergence of this situation and gave her some mint candies I had in my handbag. She thanked me and ate them. The shaking she had just started to develop, had stopped and the sweats ceased. Finally she was called and I was called shortly after. My situation was taken care of, but as I walked out, I noticed no vending machines were in the lobby. I wondered what that woman would have done, had I not been there. I also thought about the parents of young children, who had no money for sitters, and brought the children there. The children became bored, started running around and tearing up papers. I think this office should provide some little comforts for these children, due to the long wait time. Even a milk or juice machine in the event that these long waits can cause hypoglycemia to another diabetic. For me, the chair was extremely uncomfortable, especially with my back condition. This office may be efficient, but some people that are collecting Social Security have disabilities and can use a little extra consideration. read more

I went to SSA in Myrtle Beach to get a replacement of a Social Security Card 7/2/2019. They asked me all the ID questions and all the security questions, I passed all. Their computer would not authorize. I showed original SSA stub, drivers license, not acceptable. Supervisor said I needed Naturalization papers. My naturalization papers are also lost and being replaced. THEY WANTED TO UPDATE THEIR RECORDS. I am 76 years old, got SSCard in 1959 with parents, worked, collected unemployment, and retired. For 10 years, I am collecting SS Retirement check monthly. NO PROBLEM. WHY CAN'T I GET A DUPLICATE SS CARD????? Stopped by the Social Security Office, which had recently relocated from Conway to Myrtle Beach (MBSC Bldg, Suite 301). Needed advice on setting up medicare, after not finding the specific guidance that I was after online. I did not have an appointment, and was there at opening (0900). Sat for only minutes after receiving my number from the kiosk machine during check-in, and was in my car driving away at 0930. Extremely-well organized operation, and the folks there are very knowledgeable and professional. Hope I have another reason to go back, as I enjoyed the experience. read more
