Had a bit of a tiff with the missus and ended up in jail, not my best moment. I run a few fairly successful business and this was my first time ever having legal trouble, much less time in jail. Anyways most of the staff seem to be trying to do their best but are often very young and inexperienced or just unprofessional. It seems most of the staff fits in these categories but man when you do find a more seasoned knowledgeable officer it's a night and day difference because the officer doing release was on point. The officer taking care of my release group was obviously overworked, he even admitted they were a little short that day but told us not to worry and he would have us out as quick as he could. Definitely knew his stuff, was answering most questions before we even finish asking them quickly and precisely. You could tell he knew what he was doing and was well versed in handling anything that was thrown his way it seemed. Two of the guy's in our group wanted to fight each other, one of them was obviously mental handicapped in some way or just crazy. I was worried what was gonna happen or if I would even get out before they started swinging but this officer just seemed to know exactly how to be disarming and intimidating all at the same time. Imagine this officer was a pretty big dude, he looked tough had a beard with a bald head these 2 guys didn't seem to care though. I thought for sure they were gonna start swinging as they started to get in each others face but the officer barks at them to knock it off. Then somehow without missing a beat swings both their attention's away from each other with the dumbest dad joke you have ever heard while keeping a straight face. It was crazy he then kept them distracted the whole time cracking off dumb jokes and comments while processing us through release like nothing happened, as if he had done it a thousand times. Completely defused the situation without lifting a finger, I wish I had gotten his name but I was so caught up in the moment I was out the door before I had the thought. As for the rest of the jail the medical care is seems to suffer from staffing as well but it seemed ok at least for major concerns. The food however is definitely not meeting any nutritional guideline, just cheap carbs and some very little proteins that may not be actually meat. Short term survivable but long term it has to contribute to health issues. Housing was not the cleanest and the company didn't make you feel to safe either but it is jail. The overall process is very slow but that seems to be due to staffing mostly from what I saw. Overall I would have said 2 stars at most but the release guy had me impressed which is why I am leaving a review in the first place. I don't know how they are hiring staff, must pay like crap or lack incentives but if they can get more like him it would help a lot.

There is a lot of culture, a striking art museum, Summerfest the largest music festival & a theater district. Miller beer & Harley Davidson have a big presence here. Milwaukee Brewers play baseball & the Bucks baseball, it's also home to Marquette University. There are many independent bookstores & art galleries in the city. The nickname "Cream City" comes from the distinct cream-colored bricks found on many of the city's buildings. Although downtown is very walkable, there is a bus & trolley system. However, the curb's & sidewalks aren't in good shape & need attention. People are friendly & helpful here.

And I haven't been here as often as I probably should have for as close as it is; it's about an hour or hour and a half away so it's an easy day trip. Known for breweries and bratwurst, one or the other of those are on practically every corner. I've not historically been the biggest fan of bratwurst but had a Reuben bratwurst that makes my mouth water thinking about it. I had fun going to some shops with my little one, including a couple children's shops (BlackBear Boutique and Rainbow Booksellers, in particular). Rainbow Booksellers is only open a couple days per week so make sure to prioritize it if you are wanting to go. I'd planned to take my kiddo to the children's museum, but she fell asleep so that will wait for another trip. I think there are at least a couple children's museum-like places here. And in the downtown area there are several music venues; I've only been to Pabst many years ago, and I'd love to visit the High Life Theatre as well. And soon will attend a Brewers game to see the sausage race live and in person!

My proudest…read moremoment as an American was sponsoring my parents naturalization, but a close second was witnessing a close friend being sworn in as a new American here. The judges and other federal employees who stage these events are somehow so carefully selected to be perfect for the parts, I can't help wondering if Homeland Security has a central casting department. After the moving ceremony we hung around as new citizens from scores of different parts of the world posed for pictures with their papers under the flag in the lobby. The building is historic and majestic, it is truly worth a visit. The security process at the front is how airports should be run, at the same time you can see that no dangerous weapons or materials are getting in, they are also polite and patient, every fifth person or so is frustratingly clueless ("I can't bring in my gun? Why not?"). Although it was freezing cold, I had to walk around the outside a couple of times, it's a very impressive old building, but the inside is gorgeous, Romaneque Revival. The building also houses bankruptcy court, so I could see how you wouldn't share my admiration for the architecture if you were here under different circumstances.

So much better than corporate customer service, there's no grating business jargon (i.e. "Did we exceed your expectations today?") or the tortured idiot-English of the day (i.e. "have a nice rest of your day," or "I'll help the next customer in line here please"). Instead an efficient, knowledgeable, helpful receptionist immediately interpreted my confused old man look and stepped out of her reception desk area to look at the application I had in my hand and asked immediately, "do you have a corner house?" I do, so that meant I would have to come back the next day, before 3:30 when the people who could help me would be back in. I did that, and the line is very high tech, I could see on the screen what my wait time would be, and then when it was my turn I was texted as well as called in. The desk meeting was comfortable, friendly, he was very helpful not just in the fence matter but answered some other questions I needed that weren't related to the fence. Friendly, polite, that's good but not enough, he was very competent and knowledgeable. That's the combination of customer service missing for the most part in the privately owned corporate world of scripted responses and trained incompetence. I did not have to repeat myself once here. So refreshing. Now if only they could straighten out my prescriptions at the big corporate pharmacy I go to.
