I expected a challenging experience and to wait all day. I was pleasantly surprised that wasn't the case at all! I originally made an appointment online but the hurricane hit the day I had scheduled. I rescheduled my appointment online but then got a call daily the rest for the week to reschedule. This made me nervous that my appointment wasn't actually on the books - and turns out it wasn't! That made it challenging to check in but luckily not impossible They have the most helpful security guard checking bags at the front door. He helped me checkin despite my scheduling snafu (and despite my phone not wanting to load anything). Once checked in, I only waited about an hour to be called. This was surprising since the place was full (as in all the seats taken and people standing). Once my number was called, I was processed in less than 10 min. I was her for a name change after marriage which turns out is a pretty easy process. This location has lots of parking, a water fountain, and bathrooms as well. read more

I visited here on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 at 910am. I saw plenty of parking, then, I went to the door. I saw around 10 people waiting. in 5 minutes, I could enter the office. I met an officer. This SSA office completely surprised me, in a great way! I arrived at 3:15 pm on a Friday afternoon in July. No line outside. A courteous officer checked my purse and told me to take a number where I sat inside in an air conditioned room. It was about half full and quiet as the officer in there asked people to silence their phones and be quiet. My number was called in 15 minutes after which it took 5 minutes to process my paperwork. (I filled out the requisite form online and came prepared with all sorts of ID which helped speed things along.) The SSA guy processing my paperwork could not have been nicer or more helpful. I highly recommend this SSA branch! (Be sure to go late in the day like I did.... This office closes at 4 pm on weekdays. Closed on weekends.) read more

They are not allowing walk-ins. We took a number at the entrance and waited for more than an hour to get an SSN. When we sat in front of the officer, she told us we should have made an appointment. I tried to explain that we were in urgent need of the SSN and that it was very difficult to schedule an appointment over the phone. She showed no compassion and refused to assist us. Ironically, she spent eight minutes explaining that we needed an appointment -- the same amount of time it would have taken to process our request. read more

Until I turned around and realized it was the two security officers arguing with each other about religion. This rating is for the safety of the property. The office and people themselves were great. I parked my vehicle in the parking lot and was in the building for about 45 minutes. When I came out, my catalytic converter was stolen, gas line cut, and oxygen sensors removed. This was at 1030am on a Monday and the location has security guards and people waiting outside and no one saw or did anything. There are criminals watching who is coming in and out and your vehicle and property are at risk if you park at this location. read more

I cannot say enough good things about my experience at the SS office at 8989 Lakes at 610 Dr, Houston, TX 77054. I made an appointment online, and I checked in once I arrived in the parking lot. Once inside, I was called immediately and was back in my car in 7 minutes. My customer service rep was professional and helpful, and everyone else I encountered was polite and helpful as well, despite the fact they probably had 100 people waiting in line inside and outside their office. The review of this SSA office is much better than others, so I decided to come here even it's farther for me. Turned out totally worth it. Arrived at about 8am, one hour before open, and there are people forming a line already. At 8:30, a security guard arrived and start organizing. People for different service were instructed to form different line, but still honoring the order of the original line. They started letting people in at about 8:50, and the people for new SSN will be first allowed in, as I am. I submitted my application online in ahead, so the process is very quick. I left at 9:05. People coming for update SSN are next, followed by other business. Some good things about this SSA: very helpful guard organized everything very well. And even though they still not allow people sitting inside, they allow about a dozen of people waiting inside building, and all lines outside are along the building with cover, so the shade is very helpful for summer, and it's not a problem even it's rain. read more

The service is terrible! I am trying to get a new social security card and am unable to reach anyone! Have called at least a 100 times over the last year! I need to update my citizenship status and get my last name changed and am unable to do so! This is absolutely ridiculous! Everyone is back to work so I can't understand why they can't get back to work and do their jobs!!!! read more

Listen we all have a job to do. It is no one's fault or responsibility but your own to do yours for you. What I don't like is people taking advantage of people doing their jobs. Trying to play on their sympathies or make excuses. We lost our records. Some how. We just did. All of them. So I spent the morning downtown getting everything I could. Then afternoon came and I hit my next stop. The Social security administration. Filled out all the paper work, after waiting online like I was waiting for a bowl from the soup nazi. Finally I'm called she asked me for proof age I it is for the kids but it can't be the only thing that I have which is the brand spanking new birth certificates in my hand! Whose fault is that? Mine. The building is small so you have to stand outside until there is enough space inside. I went to this location for all their great reviews. I didn't have the same experience but at the end of the day it's a social security office and I came in expecting to wait. They were average - not amazing, not the worst. Minus a star: When standing in line outside the security guard let in handfuls of people at a time. When I finally got to the front of the line I saw that he was letting people in that just walked up to him. This upset me so I went and told him and got an "I'm not perfect" and then he let me in. Went on a Tuesday at 10:45 am for a name change due to marriage. I already had my form filled out, my marriage license and ID (DL or passport). I was there a little over an hour. I recommend you going earlier in the morning or right after lunch time because I was in peak lunch time and they only had 2-3 workers actually working. The male cop outside was nice and helpful, whereas the female cop inside was very rude, talked and treated everyone like they were incompetent idiots. If the line is long to where it wraps around the building (they will have multiple lines) make sure you ask what each line is for and get in the correct one. When you are inside make sure your phone is on silent and do not talk on the phone. I will say that you must have patience when going to the SS office. I almost left bc I had been in the same spot in the line outside for ab 45 mins and hardly moved a foot. However, as soon as you get to the front of the line and get inside- it does go pretty quickly! *do not be intimidated by how long the line is- it goes surprisingly quicker than what you may think. read more

I showed up just before lunch and saw 2 long lines out front, one to the left and one to the right. I had an appointment, so I thought I would be in and out. There was a sign saying the right line was for social security cards, but no sign for the other line. I stepped into the longer line which seemed to be moving quickly. Although I made it into the building within 5 minutes, the whole process seemed to be like cattle herding. Once I found a seat inside, I sat and sat for about 1 hour before finally being called upon. Overall, I spent about 2 hours here. Your experience will basically depend on how busy it is when you arrive. Online it says this office is open from 9-4 Mon-Fri. Once getting there after a 15 mile drive, it says it's only open to those with appointment. So I tried to call the number and go online to set something up. Extremely long wait time on phone, no help online, this is a busted system. Why are government run programs so inefficient? They distribute masks to people upon entering the building and search your handbag, etc. Next I checked in via a kiosk and received a number which is used to verbally call out to people when their slot is ready. Being hearing impaired and a lip reader this was one of those situations where improvisation is needed. So I explained my situation to the security people, they had no issue with lowering their masks so I could lipread. Asked for help since I would not be able to hear my number being called out. These two security folks a man and woman took my number and held it and when my number was called they let me know and where to go. I appreciated their assistance very much. People who are only there for a new social security card, replacement, name change, etc. are separated into a different line from people who are there for benefits etc. They allow the people there for benefits to check in first because they will be waiting there for a couple of hours vs. card only people which takes 10 minutes. I got my name change done in an hour total with waiting time. You are given a piece of paper with your name and address on it (no number - they stopped printing a number in 2014), however, that document is a legal document and can be used in place of a ss card. Who knew I'd be giving a social security office 5 stars? They deserve it. I showed up first thing on a Friday morning at 8am to get in line. It happened to be 31 degrees outside with a windchill of 20 something so not ideal but I had to get my name changed. Everyone was bundled but we were all freezing. It was about 20 minutes before opening when one of the really nice guards started separating us into lines. As we stood there they actually opened the building a little early so we could all get warm. That was very kind! My husband and I worked with Aaron and he was so incredibly friendly. Just come prepared to wait outside for hours. I met a lot of nice people waiting in line but one employee outside likes to yell and talk down those waiting in line. I went to the office to address a somewhat complicated issue. I could not get anyone to answer the phone. The office is closed and a security guard told me to place originals of my driver's license, passport, legal documents and an application in a drop box. Eh, no thanks. Went home and waited 3 hours on the phone to get service. Why is it safe to have 50,000 people shoulder-to-shoulder in a music concert but COVID is preventing fully-vaccinated seniors and employees from seeking services in person at a government office? I have been paying Social Security for 50 years and deserve more service than that! read more
