I decided on this particular facility because it was near my residence. In my 50 plus years of driving I have had some bad experiences with various BMVs. However as soon as I walked into this facility it was obvious it was well managed, clean and welcoming. Almost immediately a very friendly clerk ( Beth) motioned me over to her desk area. She quickly processed my renewal request in a courteous and engaging manner. The Manager and staff should be commended for their professionalism, work ethic and overall positive quality of work. The Cuyahoga County Public Library system is pretty fabulous, and in total, it boasts one of the…read morelargest book collections in the United States. This fact has helped local supporters note that the NE Ohio/Greater Cleveland area has one of the largest and most comprehensive public library systems in the nation. (Now if only the County could get every denizen to really educate himself -- and create some sort of brain bubble in the region. Just a wish.) This is a review of the Beachwood city branch, a small yet nicely remodeled facility. There are great nonfiction and children's sections; however, the fiction selection is a bit lacking. The Saul Eisen Reading Garden offers a tranquil, secluded reading space. For research projects, one might be better served at the Mayfield and South Euclid city branches (the latter is set in an exquisite old local castle-esque building). All of the branches -- east and west -- afford the opportunity to find a quiet place to get lost in a great piece of literature and/or media. Grade: A

Starbucks gets too rowdy after about 8:30 AM, and as a transplant I was at a loss as to where I should go to study. A friend suggested this branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. I can't vouch for the selection of books or the services they offer, but as a quiet study environment, this place is great! There are plenty of plugs for your computer (yay!) at each work station, so you don't have to bring an extension cord or awkwardly drape anything over your neighbor just for a hookup. My only beef was that the quiet cubbies were along the perimeter of the main room, which meant that it did get a little louder as the day went on. In any case, it beats the 'bucks, and helped me get my morning off to a productive start!

FREE PRINTING AND SCANNING -- I needed to scan a few pages so I walked in and got help. Someone at the front desk led me to a printer and showed me how to scan my document(s). I believe I scanned more than 1 page and it was quick and easy. He also told me that the library offers free printing every day to library card holders up to a certain dollar amount (I think $2.50/day worth). The library is small but seemed to have a nice selection of books. While I didn't have time to browse through books, I did notice the selection of books when I walked in. Parking can be tight but I found street parking on a side street by some houses. **** GOAL of 250 reviews in 2026 - 20/250 total reviews in 2026 - 861 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 13 April 2026

The difficulty that I encountered was when my wife had the car for work and she didn't get home until 5:30. On most of the days that I needed to go pick up books the library would close at 6pm so I would have to hurry over as soon as my wife got home. Even though the library is close to my house I don't feel too safe walking or riding my bike over there, though I'm probably just paranoid. In the library they lock the bathrooms and you have to go get someone to open the door for you if you need to use it. I think this reflects a little on the location. There are always security guards on site too, usually more than one. After a while I decided to switch over to the Cleveland Heights branch on Lee because they close at 9pm on most days, they have self checkout, and the library is beautiful and huge. The Rice branch has a very nice building, and the people there are incredibly helpful, but overall I think for me it is not the best. I give them a 4 star rating because for the people who use it the most it is indispensable. It brings a great feature to many people in that area. I think that the lack of self checkout, locked bathrooms, early closing times, etc are most likely for safety reasons considering the location. I thought about giving it a 3 star rating but then I thought that just because it's not the best fit for me doesn't mean it's a poor library. It is great.
