I had a much better experience than I expected at the Social Security office. I had been trying to get clear information online about whether I could be seen without an appointment, but it was honestly confusing and inconsistent. I decided to just take my chances and go in and I'm really glad I did. When I arrived, security directed me to check in at the kiosk. I entered my information and was given a ticket, which immediately reassured me that I would be seen. That alone made my day. The wait time was about 1.5 hours, which I think is completely reasonable considering I didn't have an appointment. I came prepared for that, so it wasn't an issue. I don't remember the name of the gentleman at window 3, but he was so nice, professional, and helpful. He made the process smooth and answered my questions without making me feel rushed. The wait is long, an old man had to use the men's bathroom but it was locked, someone asked Security about it and he said that it was being worked on. The old man kept knocking on the door and security didn't say anything. The security got up and walked past the guy not saying anything. The old man was told to use the women's bathroom and he would stand watch. As the person was standing watch, the security walked by again and said that the men's bathroom was being worked on. You check in on the system and are issued a number. I waited about 20 minutes. Got help and I was done pretty quickly. While waiting they announced that if you don't have an appointment you will not be seen. They read out about 5 numbers of people that made appointments there were like 20 people there. So 15 wasted their time just sitting there to be told they need to make an appointment. Basically: If you don't make an appointment you will not be helped. You NEED an appointment. read more

Hello fellow Yelpers! We made a trip out to the Henderson SSA office--it's smaller, calmer, and honestly felt like the "cozier" Social Security spot for us NV folks. We checked in at 9:19 AM, feeling pretty good about our timing. Around 9:45, the P.A. came on with a cheerful little surprise: "If you do not have an appointment, we will not be able to help you." And yep... our ticket number made the announcement too. So here's the tip of the day: make an appointment if you can--which is funny, because the whole reason we came was because no one was answering the phones. Life's little circle! I had a 2:00 appointment and arrived early around 11:45am in hopes of them squeezing me in sooner. They didn't call my number until 1:45pm. Not mad about this but wanted to give everyone a heads up so you don't waste time like I did. Just show up 30 min before your appt to be safe. The lady that helped me was very nice and worked efficiently. Took her less than 4 minutes to do my name change. This location is further from me but had much quicker availability than the other 2 locations. I was concerned about the number of homeless people that wondered in and out. It appeared most of them were creating fake tickets just to sit in the AC and drink from the water fountain. During my 2 hrs I never saw any of them being called up for their "appt." The security guard did a good job of keeping an eye on them but it was a little uncomfortable. One gentleman was rambling about nothing for awhile and just speaking to himself. read more

Many of the reviews are negative, I'm assuming because they didn't make an appointment. Announcements are made frequently stating they are not accepting walk-ins in order to be seen you must make an appointment. I also saw other comments saying they have tried to call, I can't speak to that, but I was able to make an appointment online and they were booked about a month and a half, but the process was super simple quick and I chose my day and time. I received a text a day before my appointment and then an hour before my appointment with a link to press when I was ready to check in. They were running about 45 minutes behind. The service was outstanding. When I was seen the lady was really nice and helpful. I went in to change my name unfortunately I didn't have my decree stamped with a seal (my fault). She offered the opportunity for me to go to the family court office and return back before the office closed and she would still see me. Only go in person if you have to. The offices weren't too busy. I didn't have to wait too long. I'd say about 20-30 minutes, which is less than some doctor offices. The main problem is the people who work there. Pretty rude. Two out of three were just awful! Yes, I had to go 3 times when I had to get a new bank account. Maybe you'll be lucky and get a nice person. I was so aggravated by the time I got out of there. The 2 rude people acted like I was the stupidest person on earth when I asked a question. Applied for a card online and was told after applying online to go to an office and present my ID for verification. Went to this location and was told that an appointment is needed for all transactions effective Nov 2024. The lady whom helped me was not helpful at all, she said she could NOT help me without an appointment BUT my friend received help for the same exact transaction that i went for (He was either me) by someone else. I was not able to make an appointment so I ended up walking in. There wasn't a line when I went so that was awesome. I checked in at the little kiosk inside. When you walk in and follow the line the kiosk is on your right. There are two of them. After you put in your information there will be a ticket printed out with a number on it. You just have a seat and wait for your number to be called and what window to go up to. There are also screens that you can look at that will tell you where to go if you don't end up hearing your number and window called. I was seen in 30 minutes so that was amazing. I was expecting to wait long but I was glad I didn't have to. The employee that helped me was kind and I was out of there in less than 5 minutes after going up to the window. read more

The only reason they are getting one star from me is because I did receive help from the telephone representative at that location, otherwise I would give it negative stars if possible, all because of one person. My Medicare part B was taken away December 31st because I hadn't paid it yet. I received the notice of pending termination on January 2nd, 2 days after it was terminated. It's the holidays, mail moves slow. As soon as I received the notice I paid the amount due, even a little more, but because my Med part B was canceled I lost my advantage plan also. I contacted my advantage plan and they said if I could get my Med B back they would continue my plan like nothing happened, I had one week. After spending 14 hours on hold, 5 hours on a Friday night and 9 hours on a Monday I finally got through to a representative, she couldn't do much for me and advised me to go to my local SSA office, the soonest appointment was in 3 weeks. I told her that I needed something sooner as I have stage 3 prostate cancer, and primary colon cancer and I had an oncology appointment and a surgeon appointment in a week. And that I would most likely have to have surgery as soon as possible. The representative told me that I needed to go to my local office and tell them that I had an "Urgent Need" to see a representative, and that they would try to get me in. I went to the Henderson office Janurary 6th, I was there at 7:30 in the morning so that I could be the first in line and hopefully I would be seen sometime that day. When the office finally opened at 9 am an SS guard (Nazi implications warranted) came out and separated the crowd that had gathered into two groups, those that had appointments and those that didn't. He ushered in those that had appointments and then yelled out that only those who had certain paperwork issues would be let in. I started to explain to the SS guard that I was told by a representative to come to the office and claim urgent need, he yelled over top of me that he had stated who could come in and that I would not be seen and I should leave. I tried again, starting off with I have an Urgent need to be seen, he again yelled over me saying he was not going to let me in. I asked him why would a Social Security Representative tell me to come here if I couldn't be seen? He then squared up to me and said loudly I am not going to get into this with you LEAVE! I know working with the public is hard but does he really need to be such a heartless cruel bastard? Did I need to be publicly humiliated like that? I will admit that I am scared. I don't know what this delay will cost me. (I will get my part B back in February) Hopefully it won't cost my life. The positive side was I called a representative in that office and she listened to me and truly tried to help me. But because our wonderful federal government is cutting back on social services and screwing the non-wealthy they've made it nearly impossible for things to get done. My case has been emailed to certain other departments and marked critical need, but you know how that goes. The saddest part of this is that this will go nowhere. You dear readers will still have to deal with the heartless self aggrandized A-Holes that think they're God when it comes to their little piece of authority. No-one from that office will read this and if they do they probably won't care. And the added wait I now have will probably be extremely detrimental. read more

They are very dismissive. My newborns social security cards were misplaced by the post office and no one could tell if the cards were sent back to Maryland or placed in someone's mailbox. I asked if new numbers could be issued due to the unknown of the original cards I was told No I was then told I can't put any holds or freeze my kids socials until they are 18. As a parent this is very alarming and the fact that they were so dismissive and didn't care about my concerns was very frustrating. I hope this never happens to them. read more

Hey President Trump, if you're looking for your first candidate for government inefficiency you've hit the mother load here. This office is the poster child for how a government office should NOT be run. If an efficiency expert shadowed this crew their first job would be to empty the place and start over. I'd heard horror stories about civil servants and their lack of care but this place makes a horror story look like a fairy tale in comparison. I've been attempting to correct an issue as the S.S. has reduced my check inaccurately. I provided the relevant details and documentation to Anthony twice, giving him everything he asked for, and he never followed through or processed my claim and now my check is reduced not once, not twice but three times. I am a senior citizen who relies solely on my Social Security check for income. How can this incompetence be allowed?. In attempting to correct this I've left approximately 8 messages with the manager, Mr. Eric Heglund, who refuses to return my call. Anthony was supposed to call me back but hasn't. What is the point of this place? It's a black hole of waste. I'm thinking of contacting my elected congressional representative to see if they might intercede. I do hope that our newly elected president looks at government offices like this and shuts the door on them and empties these wastes of space. I had to go to the SSA to set up my Medicare. Since reservations were required, I made one and showed up in time. I only had to wait about 20 minutes for my time slot. I could not believe how rude, and unempathic Eric who works there is. I took 3 elderly relatives that I have power of attorney over. I tried to fix the issue online. The system locked them out. The. I called the national office to fix and they said the only way I could do it was to go to the local office. So I took all three one on oxygen to the office. We waited for over two hours. Then rude Eric refused to take their temporary NV ID despite having photo ID with their old address, social security card birth certificate and proof of address. So we had to comeback. Lucky us stuck with rude Eric again. I tried to explain their situation. He said he would not talk to me despite all 3 right there. My mother can't hear yet he wanted her to explain the issue. I gave him the proper routing number and he did not read the paperwork correctly. Then we tried to fix the online access and he could not fix it out but his coworker easily did. He treated my family and myself with disrespect. First he told me to shut up and that he did not recognize power of attorney. Then when I tried to help my mother he told me he would have me removed and called me an asshole. There is no need to swear. My mother has a heart condition and almost passed out from the stress. I got sooo lucky here and avoided a long wait by getting here super early (pretty much 15 minutes before they opened, lol). We waited for them to open, security came out to greet us, we dropped our paperwork in the bin, and a week or so later I had my new social security card. Voila! read more

You know what I hate? These government buildings only wanting to work with appointment only now. You're dealing with the general public why do yall need appointments? You can't walk in anymore only appointments. This doesn't help with people who have a fluctuating schedule. It's annoying. The girl that was a black woman that worked on window 6 was so unprofessional and was so rude . Totally unacceptable. At 11:30 I handed her my numberx560 and said do u have appt . I said no I've been here for 2 hours and took a number . She said you need an appt. I was never told . I said you all just need my routing number and her response was it's in the system. I said I rec this letter stating it wasn't in system . Please verify I'm all set and you have everything. Her response was I told you 3 times . I've had numerous issues with SS as nothing is done correctly. She closed her window as was right away a black woman hating on a white woman . That should never happen as she was targeting me as a white woman. She hated me as soon as I sat in front of her. She was looking me up and down . How horrible to pick on a white woman. This place was faaaast! I arrived around 8:40 and had a line of about 20 people in front of me, and there ended up being around 10 to 15 people behind me once the doors opened at 9. I got my numbered ticket at 9:15 (they let a few people into the inside line at a time) and was back in my car by 9:25! I was having a name change processed. Much quicker and I believe less people than the more central Sahara location. read more
