The prices and/or specials might be consistently lower. Their produce specials are deeply discounted. Great for those big pots of soups, stews and chowders in the cold months when you need a lot of vegetables. I find their bakery section less cluttered than the aforementioned. And the bakery clerks very friendly. Who can't be friendly around all that sweetness. Each aisle has a special on one product or another. The jarred root vegetable salads are aplenty. Hard to find European products packaged with high standards such as Pâté are in full dupp Their meat and poultry prices are reasonable as well. And to my surprise they sell Wine and Beer. I got an excellent bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon for under $15 that's cheaper than the price for the same bottle in the USA. So that's easily worth 5 stars.

6 pm Oct 11. A faithful shopper at this location for at least 10 years…read more Did groceries today, then went to the hot food section to get two dinners which we do quite often. Staff was good as usual as they are mainly kids, which is great to see. I am am 3rd in line to pay and a couple brings their groceries to the hot food check out including alcohol to check out. Staff did the right thing to help them, but because of the alcohol the checkout had to be attempted 3 times. The 3 customers including myself waited about 10 minutes to check out with out hot food. Here is where you went wrong. A male manager the entire time was leaning against the condiment area watching, while gabbing away to a friend of his. Watching the disaster at the cash he never once attempted to help. Shame on him for poorly representing Fortino's and setting a very poor example to the staff. While this happens an Asian man cuts into the check out ahead or the 3 people ahead of him, including the elderly man who had difficulty walking. The staff told him that he was not next in line and that others were ahead of him. He said shut up. The manager again did nothing. I spoke up to the asian man to get back in line where he was and do the right thing and to not be so rude. He told me to F off. The manager again witnessed it all and did nothing. I stepped forward and the Asian man pushed me aside continuing with the arrogant attitude. Manager and his buddy continued talking and said nothing. After this I left the dinners on the counter and walked out. So much for fostering positive relations with customers or a safe customer environment .... We will re evaluate our spending relationship effective immediately with this location. Possibly retrain this manager to actually be an active part of the store.

An all vegan marketplace? Yes, please!!…read more Coven will fully open in June but they were showing of their stuff at Hamilton Veggie Food Fest. Coven sells other company's products such as Main Vegan Deli nut cheese from London, Firebat Cofffee, and Beyond Meat burgers. Coven also makes their own food such as vegan ham, cinnamon rolls, focaccia, potato salad, spinach artichoke dip, butter tarts, jalapeno corn bread, and more. The cinnamon roll is yeasty and delicious and warms up nicely in the microwave. The ham dinner was excellent. It came with three thick slices of mock meat with an excellent texture and fatty spots smothered in a delicious sauce. The roasted carrots and potato salad were also very good - everything cooked perfectly. The dinner roll was spot on - fluffy and soft but heavy for it's size. I would definitely get that again. In fact, I was so impressed that I would eat anything Coven makes. The sample of Main Vegan Deli cheese were awesome and I know Beyond Burgers are delicious! Can't wait to visit the brick and mortar spot when they open.

Apparently she was "managing the self-checkout", we had never spoken before we weren't speaking then she just randomly started telling me really upsetting things about killing people while I was doing her job that she was getting paid to do (?) Imagine you are packing your own groceries while a "cashier" who was being paid to help you/do the job was instead standing beside you talking about killing people. Then there's the manager who I had to overhear bashing men and marriage and telling her employees to not ever get married. The most uncomfortable top-of-her-lungs-so-everyone-heard conversation while I was trying to discuss things with the butcher boys. Which brings me to today. The butcher guys were giving me free scrap/cut offs, the unsellable scrap they throw away each day they gave me a small pack for my dogs every few days and in return I did my shopping there. The females have today decided to LECTURE the butcher guys and now CHARGE PEOPLE for the scraps that they throw away btw I have this relationship with both Metro and Fortinos and I have for years with never any issue. The staff is pretty hit or miss though, sometimes you get a friendly local who is happy to help, other times the employees are unable or unwilling to offer any customer service at all. This coupled with the pretty consistently sketchy crowd that seems to loiter outside at all times of the day and night seems to be the main pitfall of this location. Too bad too, its among my favourite of the few locations in the city.
