Who is the mysterious Vincent?…read more Does he have a family? How long has his shop been here? Is his name even Vincent? I wish I spoke better Korean. These are the things I imagine I would ask. But regrettably, after over a year of visiting his shop, I've all but spoken a few sentences of broken Korean to the eponymous "Vincent." I find myself writing Vincent's backstory as I sit in his barber chair and he begins deftly buzzing my sides. He is a spy who escaped North Korea and found refuge in Fort lee. Or maybe he assumed the identity of the original Vincent somehow when he escaped a dangerous gang in Seoul. Some days I feel certain that he left behind a daughter in Korea and hasn't seen her in decades. Or maybe the decision was hers. She chose to estrange herself from him. I can never quite agree on the ending in the 15 min it takes Vincent to finish. I'll mumble a clumsy thank you, pay him, and depart. TLDR; he's good. Come here.

This place is operated by two older Korean gents who don't speak a lick of English -- but who took good care of my two boys right quick -- with modern doo's. They are open on Sundays and at $20 apiece with tip, well worth it. WIGB - definitely -- especially on a Sunday when I can brunch in a neighborhood just silly with every manner of asian eatery.

I had tried a barbershop before as I moved here about 7 weeks ago and loved the vibe, but the haircut was ultimately not my style. Tried this one. My hair very much protrudes from the sides as it grows out, especially after 3 weeks. I didn't need any kind of K-pop style haircut within my line of work, and I got exactly what I wanted with so many extras in service, experience. This will be my go to spot every month now! Haircut done by - John 15/10 Highly recommend John. Extremely personable and boutique when it comes to the hair you want. Inside/Atmosphere: The shop has a very clean, modern, and comfortable setup. The waiting area feels welcoming, with good lighting and a stylish interior design. It gives off a professional yet relaxed vibe, which makes you feel at ease right away. Service: The staff here are extremely accommodating and attentive. From the moment I walked in, they made sure I was comfortable and taken care of. Had a hair wash, and a hair wash after the cut as well. John my barber, in particular went out of his way to understand exactly what I needed. Even though I wasn't looking for a trendy or complicated style, he listened carefully and made me feel valued as a customer. This included side and back shaves with cooling gel. Haircut: My hair tends to protrude on the sides, and I usually avoid overly stylish cuts since my hair doesn't really work that way. John understood this perfectly and gave me a clean, neat cut that worked with my hair's natural growth. It was exactly what I needed--simple, sharp, and easy to manage. Overall: If you're looking for a barbershop that combines a great environment, excellent service, and barbers who really listen, Shilla Men's Hair Club is the place to go. Highly recommend, especially with John! Price was extremely reasonable. I understand this is a personal preference for everybody's lifestyle and income, so please keep that in mind that when I say it is fair, it is per my own experiences with other barbershops in their cost. $35 was the final price, and of course I tipped generously for the entire experience.

I received a text the day before my appointment that asked if I had any recent symptoms consistent with coronavirus/if anyone in my household had symptoms. Additionally I was provided with instructions on the salon protocol. On calling the salon, I was instructed that I could enter, I was asked to sanitize my hands, and had my temperature checked. The salon is using disposable gowns and is limiting hairdrying inside the salon, therefore you're asked to show up having washed your own hair. The appointment was quick and everyone wore masks/maintained social distancing inside. The haircut is wonderful (only $65, cheaper than what I've paid for comparable haircuts in the past) and I could not have felt more comfortable with the experience. The location has plenty of parking in the parking lot behind the salon. Excuse the appearance of the area near the salon as there was a fire in a restaurant next door. I highly recommend this salon, they are going above and beyond to make sure their clients are safe.

TL;DR: Lowlights rock…read more I had been to Jackie's years ago when I used to travel more frequently to the northeast. This time I had some downtime and swung by for a trim. She asked whether I want to try something different and suggested lowlights - I had never heard of the term but figured they're like highlights, just less obvious. The first and last time I had had toned down my hair (highlights, actually) was 22 years ago, but the AI photo apps had all suggested recently that I go blonde, so I thought this may be a first step in that direction. She said how long it takes depends on the individual's hair but should take no more than an hour, and I was intrigued. I can do an hour. I told her I really don't want that overbleached, orangish yellow color, and she was on the same page. We were going to aim for a light brown, but that could mean any number of things, right? It came out a copper-bronze that adds just a touch of light around my face. The color looks more obvious in certain angles depending on how my hair is tousled or parted, and I love how it shows up more prominently in the under-layers of my hair and when I put it up in a bun! This is a result of her gathering my hair, then taking some away in a zigzag before bleaching what remained in hand. I really like that she made the bleached hair blend with my natural hair. Btw, she's pretty opinionated and has a lot of comments, but knows her stuff. If you've ever been scared about toning down your hair color, give lowlights a try! It's very affordable here even with the wash and cut afterward. I was here a total of 1:30 including my wash and cut, during which three people walked in. She had to turn them away since she was doing my hair; one person came back at a time she had told him. Glad to see that it's a happening place but that she takes walk-ins like I did :D
