Butch Annies - Parmesan Truffle Chips

What an incredible find while abroad. My favorite food, by far, is a cheeseburger. Leaving the…read morestates for four months left me with pretty much Five Guys to satisfy the craving. Butch Annie's is the one of the best burger joints I've ever had. And in the UK, too!! Best was the Jack and the Rosemary chips. Liked the shakes, liked the Oh La La. Servers were kind and prompt. Fun ambience.

The restaurant description: Finest dry-aged beef, cheddar cheese, tomato, date & walnut jam, caramelised onions, rocket, honey & truffle mayo. I had the burger sans onions and it was quite good. The sweetness of the date & walnut jam was a nice balance to the umami flavor of the beef. The bun held up well with all the ingredients in-between which made for a pleasant dining experience...if you've ever had a burger on a disintegrating bun, you'll appreciate a good quality bun like they use here. The Parmesan and Truffle Chips we're just okay. Not much parmesan and any truffle oil used was not detectable. I would probably just recommend the regular chips instead. Overall I'm recommending Butch Annie's for when you're in Cambridge and craving a high quality burger. They also have a pretty good Classic Rock playlist going (for your listening pleasure) so your ears don't get jealous of your tongue.

My…read morePhilly cheesesteak inspired sandwich was truly excellent, with warm, juicy flavorful beef and rich cheese curds, nicely balanced by green bell peppers and onions and bound together by a mild garlic aioli on perfect sandwich bread. Also got a slightly spicy and crisp coleslaw for a cool contrast and a minor dose of vitamins. My tablemates were also really pleased with their orders (a vaguely East Asian glazed chicken with pickled Banh Mi-style veggies and a cold roast beef with arugula--must try those next). Wow. Another reason to visit Cambridge.

Nice, high quality sandwiches. I actually went here two…read moredays in a row while staying in Cambridge. The first day I ordered two sandwiches, the Porchetta and the Jerk Chicken. The Porchetta sandwich has nice roasted pork and a crispy strip of pork skin to top it off. The description says it has a salsa verde sauce. To me, it was more like a pesto-style sauce. The pork was all meat and didn't have any globs of fat that you sometimes find in American pulled pork barbecue. The Jerk Chicken Sandwich was the weekly special. It consisted of several pieces of skin-on mostly dark meat chicken, house made slaw and I think a little mayo. I took off the chicken skin. It wasn't crispy and I don't care for much chicken skin. Even doing that, it had good flavor. A nice blend of spices and a little spiciness. I didn't eat it right away but it was still good. Like I said, I ordered this sandwich the next day. This time I ate it soon after ordering. The roll was still warm and slightly crunchy. I liked even more when eating it "fresh." I removed the skin on this one too. I used the take out window on the side and they were pretty quick, even though there were about four or five people in front of me. I'll definitely go back when in town and craving a sandwich.

I'm reviewing this place as a first time visitor to Cambridge. From what I understand, Frankie &…read moreBenny's is a well-known New York Italian restaurant chain throughout the UK. This restaurant on Newmarket Road is fairly new. The space is clean and interior is reminiscent of the booth seating in the U.S. If you look up, there are two bronze statues of whom I assume are Frankie and Benny watching over. Because I was staying somewhere nearby, I ate here twice in one day; for both breakfast and dinner. The value of breakfast is really good. Different plates were offered for relatively affordable prices £3.95-£6.95 e.g. full English breakfast, pancakes, Eggs Benedict. The three I mentioned are the plates we ordered (all were only £5 each). On the Eggs Benedict, you have a choice of meat. I would recommend the bacon! The dishes were decent, but I would skip the pancakes. The Sunrise cocktail I had was a nice pairing. Service wasn't the best, and it wasn't busy. We came back later that evening for dinner, and it was much busier. We had to wait a little before a table was ready, so we went to the bar and ordered drinks. When seated, I observed that a number of the larger round booths were empty because they weren't being cleaned. Dirty dishes sat untouched the whole time we dined. I wondered why they didn't want to seat people there. As for our food, we started with the Mac N Cheese (just penne pasta and cheese), which actually came out after our mains were served. We got the chicken wrap (good) and the massive calzone (okay but drenched in marinara sauce). For dessert we shared the strawberry shortcake sundae--that was the best tasting thing that day. My dining companion felt that the service was better, I didn't notice a difference. If you're looking for a place to dine with others, Frankie & Benny's is a good place in a central location. The parking shouldn't be an issue. If you want authentic American style food, I suppose it's close enough. Personally, I would recommend getting breakfast rather than lunch or dinner here, because of the great value.

Well, after a week of English pub food (meat, potatoes, meat, more potatoes, warm beer, mayonnaise, bland veggies), we craved a cheese burger, seasoned fries and a soda with ice in it. I am conflicted as to whether or not to give 2 or 3 stars. The food was slightly below average Chili's fare, and the service was decent, no better or worse than Chili's in the US. But, when you are traveling abroad and want a taste of home (including the UK expats that have spent 10+ yrs in the US), sometimes places like Chili's and the Hard Rock Cafe are a beacon of light in the dark. These places give that taste of home that make that grueling international business trips that much more bearable.

The menu is varied with mexican themes but also a touch of american diner creeping through. The service is friendly and there's always a good atmosphere and it well located next to the grafton centre. The only flaw is that the decor seems a little dated and there is a little confusion over whether this is really an american diner or a mexican. The prices too can be a little high but the portions are huge so who's complaining.
