Fast, easy, had everything we needed for the beach. We got chairs, snorkels fins. I wish they had beach wagons, but oh well...

This review is for a weeklong "high performance" surfboard rental. I wanted to chime in here for…read moretwo reasons: first, because other reviews don't discuss the weekly or high-performance rentals. And second, because this place has some less-than-stellar reviews that I feel might not be totally warranted. The staff members I spoke with during pick-up and drop-off were both super friendly-- way more so than I expected. The board itself was not exactly "high performance" compared to my favorite boards back home, but it was definitely better than the Wavestorms and NSPs you commonly see for rent on beachfront stands. Can you do better elsewhere? Maybe, probably, if you put some legwork into finding alternatives. But there aren't that many other options if you're on the northwest side of the Big Island. Anyway more about the rental itself: The boards are epoxy but somehow the one I got was not as chattery and stiff as other epoxy boards I've used in the past. They're not exactly "real" hand-shaped (or even hand-finished) boards you would get from a "core" surf shop, but they seem a lot better than the average mass-market pop-out. They also said I could come and swap out for a different design during my rental period if I wanted as well. There were short boards, mid lengths, and longboards. Thrusters, single fins, and 1+2s mostly. Not gonna replace my quiver back home, but a totally fine experience all around.

Great options of adult and kids swim clothes. Very friendly and helpful service. They also rent…read morebeach chairs and umbrellas.

I cycle almost every day when I'm at home (when it's reasonably warm) and love to get out on my…read morequality road bike. Finding a road bike that is my die for rent when I travel is almost impossible. Since I'm 6'6" tall, my bike has to be at least 61 cm, and larger is even better. I search and search when I'm in other cities, and all I can find are cruiser bikes or hybrid bikes. It's just not the same experience. What's worse is that the people in a lot of bike shops throughout tbe country don't seem to care, and can be useless in finding a shop with quality rentals. They can treat the visitor as a second class citizen because they're only in town for a short time. Lastly, knowing the inventory they have for rent without calling or visiting is the norm- and usually the inventory they do have if it's posted doesn't include specifics about size, brand etc. The first thing I really loved about Bike Works in Kona was that all the bikes they had for rent were on their website, availability dates were includes as well as details about the size, brand and model were easily accessible. I reserved a bike for 2 days, but got into town later than expected. I visited the store quickly to make sure the bike was still there but wasn't dressed or ready for a ride. They encouraged me to come back so I didn't have to pay for two full days which I couldn't believe. The bike was an amazing quality in had components that were new & top of the line. The bike I've rented at a retail value of a round $6,500 and was very new, which I also cannot believe. I had a couple of unforeseen problems with the tires going flat and each time I brought them in they fixed them quickly and replaced the full tire. After all that, I caught a nail in the tire which was tough luck (the nail was small & matched the asphalt perfectly). What was most important to me, was that they treated me like family. Mark took great care of me, but everyone was genuinely helpful. Before I started my ride, Mark made sure the dimensions of the bike fit my size and I was shown how to operate the electronic derailleurs. Mark was always courteous and friendly and remembered my name. He let me charge my phone when I was there and gave me good suggestions on bike routes along with the difficulty level. I loved riding in KONA and that probably wouldn't have been the case if it wasn't for bicycle works in Kona. I was truly amazed!

Everyone was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The bikes…read morewere all in great condition and they had someone there in shop servicing the bikes.

I was happy with the store and service although it is resort prices i thought i was getting a great deal but i was not i feel yelp can do better

It has been a long time since I've had such a terrible retail experience…read more.. I've been coming to this store for years and the product is fantastic. The selection is great, but year in and year out, the service gets worse and worse. This time was, the worst it has ever been... The doors were locked even though it was prime open hours (about 4pm). I saw half a dozen customers come to the store and be turned away because the doors were locked. I actually spoke with one the customers, and he said he had been checked the door several times in the past 15 minutes. I called the store, and only then did the girl materialize after about 15 minutes of waiting, and unlock the doors. While in the store, the sales girl made no attempt at helping us with finding product, selecting a size, etc. She made no attempt in any way to be helpful. It was truly amazing. My partner and I could not believe it. This girl was dead inside, and almost ruined a perfect day. I will say that Rip Curl really has to do better and their employee selection. Rip Curl makes wonderful items, and this store is a regular stop for me; they need to find better retail associates. Please! Be warned... Be careful... Parking is great. Store is generally clean, and this day it was full of boxes around the counter.

You'll never see more gorgeous views than you will from these tennis courts at the Mauna Kea. The…read moreviews alone are worth 5 stars, but the drills were super fun too. I was told by the concierge ahead of time that I didn't need to worry about booking tennis until the day before so to just wait until we got to the resort. It turns out the drills book up fast and way ahead of time so when I called on arrival day I ended up being #9 or 10 on the waitlist. Eek! Fortunately, the waitlist moves since people get busy with other things to do in the Big Island so I did get in to 2 classes. Joseph and Dan (i think) taught both drills. We started the drills with a warm up and then did a bunch of mini games. I'd say most players were at the intermediate level and they did a good job of pairing us up so that the levels were well matched. An hour of drills flew by, especially when looking at that view! My daughter also took one of the kids drills, which she enjoyed. The ages ranged from about 10-15 so at 14 she was one of the older kids, but all of them hit pretty well. The instructor did a great job of keeping them engaged with games and the hour seemed to move pretty fast for them too. Two other days I reserved courts (that you do the day before- i recommend calling in the morning since they fill fast)) and hit with my kids, which was a lot of fun. It can get pretty windy out by the ocean and a little hot too, but they drop off water while you're playing to keep you hydrated. We left our racquets back at home (less to pack), but we just rented racquets which was also a good way to try out some new ones. I have my eye on a Yonex after playing pretty well with it one day! The pickleball courts were even more full than the tennis courts. I stuck with tennis this trip, but would love to do both next time!

Funny I live near a small town called Seaside and grew up playing at one of the tennis clubs, in regards to ambiance nothing compares to this fabulous resort tennis club. Here to celebrate a close family friend's wedding we decided to play a little mixed doubles and sweat out some of last night's libations. It was hard for me to focus as I heard the waves lightly crashing ashore and the view of the palm trees didn't help as I raised my face into the sun to hit a serve. This club is run by a friendly staff as they remembered that family that I arrived with, they are as regular as visitors to hit island get and the pro shop is neatly laid out and it was hard for me not to buy one of those bright signature orange Mauna Kea Beach Hotel logo-ed hats or shirts. Lucky for me, the color orange and I do not get along... well at least not Tony the Tiger orange. If you enjoy the game of tennis and you want to hit a few while visiting the Kohala coast, I recommend hitting up the Seaside Tennis Club. If not for tennis, just check out the club grounds to see how magical and refreshing it would be to play here. Open 8:00am-5:00pm Daily
