Cannot recommend Sundown more highly enough! First and foremost, they're a family business and that comes through with the friendly and attentive service no matter what you're shopping for. Our most recent visit was for a new set of skis, boots, and poles for my wife. Admittedly we were lured in by the Black Friday deals, and despite the store being a little bit crowded, Jonathan was extremely patient and helpful throughout the entire experience. We were on the fence between seasonal rentals, rent to own, or just outright purchasing, and Jonathan explain the math and available equipment for all the scenarios. We started off with an advanced boot fitting, complete with a 3-D foot scan, and then Jonathan whisked out a few different boot options (one for each foot) asking my wife to walk around in them for 5-10 mins each. After going through the exercise a few terms, she zeroed in on a nice pair of Nordicas. From there, we went to the skis, and they were running a great deal on brand new equipment from last season, so we bagged 40% off for Blizzard skis paired with Marker bindings, then grabbed a set of Leki poles to complete the set. Their prices are competitive to begin with, but they do price match in the off chance you find something cheaper that's in stock (same size, year, etc) elsewhere. From start to finish, it was a great experience, and we both learned a lot through all of it...Even got some great tips for layering so don't be surprised if we're back in a week or two for some new base layers! PS, and just as a heads up, they charge you a $50 fee upfront for the advanced boot fitting they do (3D foot scans, etc) but that is applied towards any boot purchase, or if you decide not to get boots, you can still walk away with a $50 gift card to the store to use towards something else, so no matter what, there's no loss. I presume they do that so people don't come in, spend a couple hours of an associate's time, and then not purchase anything, and it makes perfect sense. read more

I paid to have a snowboard tuned and waxed. When I picked it up it did not look waxed, so I asked an employee if it had been waxed. He bit my head off and yelled that he waxed it himself. When I got to Big Sky my first ride was awfu and a binding toe strap fell off and was lost. I took the board to their shop and asked it it was waxed. They said absolutely not, dry as a bone. Not only did I pay to wax it again, but Sundown did not even check the bindings. Terrible service. read more

Sundown is our go-to ski equipment rental place for my family. They offer discounted rentals the earlier in the season you rent. There is a nice supply of equipment, and they have accessories available to buy while you are there if you need socks, goggles, etc. I also bought skis from them a while back and they retune them each season. It can get crowded there and the parking lot is small so plan ahead accordingly. read more

Since Princeton Ski Shops closed a while back, I've been coming to Sundown. I've been here several times in the past with friends, but never bought anything. Sundown has a great ski & snowboard equipment selection with many of the top brands. They usually have early and late season sales with some good deals, but prices are so-so most of the time. Where they excel is in their service. I bought a set of Salomon skis with a pair of Dalbello boots a few years ago and they took extra time making sure I was comfortable and the fit was right. Being a smaller shop, they can give more personal attention to each customer. Skis also get lifetime tuning included for the life of the skis. Gotta go drop mine off for a wax & sharpen soon. What really made me a loyal customer happened last year when my bindings were damaged by the airline luggage gorillas on a trip to Salt Lake City (#SMF@Southwest). I thought I would have to pay a bundle for a repair or a new set of bindings. Dave examined them and said it should be no problem to fix, but parts had to be ordered because the housing was cracked and the DIN window was gone. When I picked them up 2 weeks later, he said there was no charge and the warranty covered the parts even after 4 years of use. He even waxed the base and gave the edges a nice sharpening! I walked in with broken snowboard binders and walked out a short time later with my issue resolved. I was so pleased with the service John provided that I bought a new pair of boots and binders. John was very knowledgeable about my board and what my options were. He was also extremely courteous and speedy. This is definitely one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. Called at 10:36 this morning and asked if they had something and if they would match the price on Amazon. I fully understand that small shops can't always price match and respect that 100%. Was told they had them in stock and would match so long as it was the same thing. Just drove there to find out they didn't have any but that they could make one for me from "spare parts" which I was fine with. After the employee puts it all together he tells me that the owner has stated the price would be $250 and that the owner stated it was a "misunderstanding". There was zero misunderstanding as the employee asked the price and I was crystal clear about everything. They wanted me to pay full price for "spare parts" and took zero responsibility. Hate to have to write this review but since I haven't had a follow up phone call from them in over a week, I'm left with no choice. We recently rented skis from Sundown in Greenvale. The skis were terribly worn and visibly damaged. But our original rental place was sold out. We went to Sundown and was "fitted" for the boots. At the time, I argued that the size was too small and they insisted it wasn't. The ill fit really showed on the slopes. They were too small, just as I argued! And the bindings kept popping and the boots would not click back in. We were forced to re-rent skis in VT to salvage our ski trip. Upon returning the skis, I informed Sundown that they rented us crappy skis and ill fitting boots. I asked for a refund for the days we were unable to use them and to cover some of the re-rental costs. They defended themselves and said they'd have to look at the video footage of the day we rented the skis and get back to us. THEY NEVER GOT BACK TO US. Thus this review. Zero for customer service. Zero for gear. Zero for this business. My advice, if Sundown didn't have decent equipment to rent, they shouldn't haven rented at all. Just say you're out of stock instead of leaving customers with a bad experience from renting with you. read more

tl:dr Buyer beware. This company stands for nothing. No integrity. I now know this is a high risk company that doesn't back its own policies and doesn't try to win back customers. My husband and I were shocked at how I was treated, and friends including those who first recommended this place have been warned not to look for winter supplies with them anymore. I want no one to ever have to be made to feel the way I was. Even accused of skiing and returning, when I've never seen the inside of a lodge! Who assumes the worst of their buyers and has any business in customer service? Basically, their return policy was denied and modified on-the-fly, verbally in-store, and the owner of Sundown never called me to even try to discuss what happened, when an associate said he would. I then received spam mail from the site a week after I also submitted an email with the complaint. Turns out they ignore that as well and just use your email for their mailing list in an attempt to make more money. Hint: When you've upset a customer, sending them sales emails isn't a good tactic. The easy-going, common-sense return policy on the website is a flat-out lie from what my husband and I experienced. The item simply wasn't what I needed, was in new condition as required, and it hadn't even been the 14 days, it'd been two. Extremely sketchy, to say the least, and no response for all my trouble and time. If you're an honest person looking to buy with confidence, never shop Sundown. After more than ten years of working in the customer service industry, I'm appalled at what's lacking with Sundown. Supporting small business is encouraged, but after this, I feel I've been educated on a hidden truth about policies being edited on the fly when it suits the store's profits in the short-term. I purchased my first set of boots and skis at Sundown. Took them on a 3 day trip and came back with numb toes on both foot. Went into sundown and Johnny spent hours working with me to help fix the problem ( he didn't even get to take lunch, I noticed that after I left the shop). I walked out with boots that no longer hurts. Johnny is super patient and attentive, he listened and made adjustments for each foot, explains what he was doing and shows me the changes he made, and he never rushed me during the whole time. Sundown will be my choice for ski gear from now on and I'm telling all my friends about how great they are. After more than 20 Years my wife and I decided to get back into Skiing. After visiting multiple shops across the island trying on more boots than I care to remember we found ourselves in the trusted hands of Johnnie and Doubt (yes that is his name). We had NO DOUBT that we finally had the right level of understanding of our needs and the proper direction to make educated decisions about what to purchase. There knowledge and passion for the sport shows well beyond their years. As I said earlier Boot selection was a real challenge for my Fred Flintstone feet. They recommended a Boot that not only felt amazing and comfortable but will also perform. My wife was guided to a higher performing Boot that fit her needs and also provided the Warmth she is after. We then moved into Ski selection where Johnnie and Doubt kept us within our budget and provided us with options that were the best value for the dollar..and also found something color coordinated to my wife's boots. My wife and her family started shopping at Sundown in the 80's and I can see why this store has been in business for that long. They will stay open late and open a little early. Everyone there is helpful and will walk with you and work with you to find exactly what you need. The ski and board department downstairs are knowledgeable and have great personalities to get you what you need. I used to lease ski equipments for my daughter at Sundown Ski. Last week, I received a notification from my credit card saying Sundown ski took 217.25 dollars. (Oct 12,2018). When I called about the charge, they were very quick to give me a refund. Good service? I dont think so. What would have happened if I didnt get the notification from the credit card company? From the first person who answered the call to the last person who offered a quick refund, they seemed to know that my card was charged falsely. Actually, they didnt even verify if I returned the equipment(i did back in March). They just knew that i am calling because a false claim was made on the credit card. Such occurrence must happen often enough for everyone who works there to know. I wonder what happens to all the accidental charges that go unnoticed? I asked them how this happened via contact us and i have not received any explanation. Will not do business here again. I will also need to check my statements from past few years as well. read more

Winfred the owner, and his son Tyler have done a great job running the store and maintaining great customer service. They have a great selection of skis, boots, jackets, gloves, goggles, etc... My review of Sundown is 100% positive as I have boot foot problems and I was taken care of from the second I stepped in. I explained my problem and spent 2 hours testing and trying out boots without feeling rushed at all. I was able to ask a million questions. As you get older, your feet change and with ski boots, they really needed to be heat molded to fit my foot. Now i have no ski boot foot problems or pain. My legs get tired way before my feet start hurting! We also did a family ski gear rental for a long weekend and they were super helpful in renting us great gear! The two other big named ski/board shops sold me gear but never customized it. This led to pain. Sundown took the time to fit me and fit the boot to me for long term use. Thank You! read more

Very impressed with their customer service. I purchased a snowboard from them online at a clearance price. A few days later, I received an email stating that the board I ordered was out of stock, however they would gladly send me the current model at the same price. Wow! Needless to say the new board retailed for quite a bit more than the clearance model. Very friendly on the phone as well. The shop in Greenvale is a great local spot to rent skis/snowboards/accessories for the day, week, or season. To rent them for one day is only $30 and that includes everything - skis, boots, and poles. Each additional day is $10 and they do not charge you on the day you pick them up or drop them off which is great. The guy that helped me with the rental was wonderful, very knowledgeable and friendly. The guy that was there when I dropped them off though...not so much. I was also turned off by another guy that worked there that was practically following me around the store when I was shopping for a new jacket. Every time I picked something up he asked if he could help me find something or find a size. I get you are just doing your job, but after the 10th time you can stop asking, it's called browsing. I ended up leaving without anything because I felt uncomfortable and annoyed. read more

I had been there before for accessories, but went in this week to get bindings put on my new board, partly my fault i know. I should have just done them myself, but I am still a newbie. Basically payed $55 for them to screw them on, and they didn't even put them at the angle that i specifically asked for.
