Printworks has the word coffee in their name and are at least making an effort to take it seriously. It uses Monmouth beans and it's better than average but it doesn't really come close to the more serious Edinburgh coffee places such as Artisan Roast, BrewLab etc. Flat white had good flavour but just lacked a bit of depth and precision. I'm always willing the coffee to be great and I'm always just a tad disappointed. There is a selection of paninis and soups. It would be nice if they had a few healthier options, but my chicken and pesto panini had a nice golden crunch. Cakes and pastries from local bakeries looked tempting. Its a small but bright space, pleasant enough for a spot of lunch provided it's not too busy. It's not perfect but for now it's still probably the best coffee your going to get in this part of town so it edges into 4 star territory.

Another bonus is that is close to where I live and work. So I had to go there. And I keep going there every day. This little cafe has a wonderful array of sandwiches, paninis and the soups (usually 2 options on offer daily). I haven't tried their coffee yet, but I'm sure it would be very good as everything I've had from there so far has been delicious. They sell chocolate brownies from Lovecrumbs, and the bread that comes with the soup is from Dough Re Mi (nice artisan bread). The display counter also has various cakes and cheese cakes and pastries... It all looks so tempting that I'm surprised that so far I have only tried the brownie which was gorgeous - but I feel I should try the other stuff too, in equal measures :) Friendly service and nice chat. A takeaway soup (about 300ml) with bread is £2.65.

It just happened to be super close to the Airbnb we stayed at and had great reviews. When you walk in you see the pastry display first. I ate a lot of scones on this trip and Red Kite was probably my favorite place for them. One thing I loved was that they had a new sweet and savory scone each day (we ate here a total of four times, three of those times in a row). Another thing I liked was that there was ample seating in an open area with plenty of natural light. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. I did try four different dishes for breakfast/brunch. The first time was a simple breakfast plate with a soft boiled egg, variety of toasts, ricotta (I think) and house made jams. I really liked how they said to holler if more toast was needed and also the fact that the plate had a few different types of bread toasted. The second time I went with the very hearty red kite breakfast, which is basically what you'd call the full Scottish breakfast. The l third time was a shakshuka eggs dish, and the final time was a pear breakfast toast that I added bacon (ham) to for extra protein. All dishes were fantastic; perfectly prepared, fresh, and with great flavors. I ordered a latte or dirty chai latte each time. I need to find a place like this back home, though my pants are telling me to slow down on the scones!
