I had good expectations for this restaurant but found myself extremely disappointed…read more The main issue was that photos of dishes on the menu were ridiculously misleading, and the management was even more ridiculously impolite and touchy about it. We ordered a very popular Chinese meat dish 夫妻肺片 abats façon couple marié (posted photo from menu) and got a plate full of diced onions and about a fingers size of meat. When we asked to speak to the chef/owner, he was extremely rude and brusque about it, refusing to even look us in the eye. We received absolutely horrible treatment for simply asking if there had been a mistake. Also as mentioned in other reviews, servings were really small. They're not suited for families, they're more appropriate for 2-3 people. Another huge problem was that flavors were nonexistent. This was especially unexpected as this restaurant proclaims itself to be Szechuan style, which is known for being extremely flavorful and spicy. Luckily there are plenty of other excellent Chinese restaurants in the area! Do yourself a favor and don't risk it with Saveurs de Chengdu.

So of course, when I…read morewas looking through the beautiful menu, I didn't actually expect it to come out the same. But it did. The presentation of each dish was beautiful. Besides the presentation, the food also had very nice flavors. I found the amount of peppercorn to be a little overwhelming, but there were many other flavors of the dish and I tried to focus on those instead. I ordered the mapo tofu and the chengdu dumplings. My favorite was the chengdu dumplings! I might go back and just order two servings of that! These dumplings were even better than the ones I had at nord-est ravioli. The sauce is just perfect and there was so much flavor. The mapo tofu had a nice hit to it, but like I said the peppercorn was a bit much, not too spicy but just too much in general. The waitress is super nice and was happy to converse with me in my broken mandarin! I'm a native Cantonese speaker so it was nice to get some mandarin practice in. She also speaks some french, so no worries if you can't speak chinese! The menu is also in English, French, and Chinese so it's easy to work with.

Came here for lunch on Easter Sunday after reading the good reviews on yelp, with a massive craving…read morefor Chinese food. Needless to say, we left very very pleased. The restaurant was almost empty when we got there at 2:20, except for a French man eating alone, and the lady boss and waitress sitting at the back chatting. (We later learned that they actually close at 2:30 and open again for dinner, and were quite impressed that they served us like any other customer and didn't try to hurry us along, as many other Chinese restaurants would). They seem very accommodating. A pair of Chinese girls came in at around 3pm and were told the kitchen was closed but after hearing they really wanted Chinese food, said they could order some dumplings. (Since they just need to be boiled, I guess). We ordered the dumplings too, Chinese broccoli (kai lan), zha jiang mian, and suan la tang (sour and spicy soup, €3.80/bowl, which isn't on the menu). The soup came first and it was one of the best I've had. I don't know why it isn't on the menu. It should be! It had all the right ingredients, bamboo shoots, black fungus, tofu, chicken (which was so tender and tasty), etc, and the flavours were very well balanced. It was as spicy and sour as it should be and I didn't feel like I needed to add more of either--a first! Next was the vegetables. I was expecting quite a small plate (a sensible portion for 2 people), but what we got was enough for at least 5 people! Great, since it was €9. I thought the kai lan would come in oyster sauce but the sauce was instead a little vinegary like what you'd get with steamed fish, still very tasty though! The dumplings and zha jiang mian came just after the veg, and THE DUMPLINGS ARE GREAT. Mum said it was one of the best she's had (for this sort of dumpling). I agree. They're not the meatiest dumplings but they are seasoned perfectly and the texture of the skin is just right--not doughy and not overcooked, with just enough bite. It's very no frills and comes just boiled with vinegar on the side. From what I can tell, the seem homemade. The zha jiang mian was also very good. Flavoured just right, it's black bean-y without being too salty, and the noodles have a nice bite. The only thing stopping me from giving this place 5 stars is that I wish the sauce had a bit more meat! The portion is huge and mum and I couldn't finish it even though we shared, you really get your money's worth. The bill came up to about €34, which seems quite reasonable to me considering we ate till we were stuffed. As we left, we chatted with the lady boss (in Mandarin) for a bit and I was already thinking about when I'll next be in Paris so I can bring my friends here. It's that good. You can sometimes hear people singing karaoke downstairs, which was quite amusing and not too bothersome. Feel like it's almost part of the authentic Chinese experience, haha. CASH ONLY BTW.

When I was first here in 2012, the number of authentic chinese restaurants in central paris (between 1 and 10 arr) you can probably count with a single hand, but today between this street and down one block on rue de richer, there are at least two handfuls of authentic chinese restaurants. Coming back, I was both satisfied and disappointed with the food here. What makes the food great here is the fact that they use high heat and a great wok - you can hear the clanging of the metal spatula stirring the food quickly in the kitchen from the dining area. The result of the food provides the perfect aroma for the dishes - which turned out great for the meat dish and vegetable dish we ordered (though a tad under salted). However, what was disappointing was the lack of selections for stuff i like and the tripe dish i came here especially for. The tripe dish had very little sauce and the tripe were shopped in giant cubs rather than sliced thinly. The dish was difficult to eat overall. Another problem i had with the restaurant is the huge dog that sits at the back of the restaurant with the owners. I'm just not a fan of having dogs in the restaurant, let alone next to the kitchen bar. The Karaoke joint is still downstairs and students would go downstairs and order a ton of large dishes. I was a big envious because I would have liked to order more food than my stomach could hold. Unfortunately, i probably would be less likely to come back given that i have a series of Chinese restaurants in the neighbourhood i will need to try.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. If you want to test your limits to spicy food, hands down, there is NO OTHER…read moreplace. I come from a long standing history of eating spicy foods. A friend who lives here randomly decided to take us, saying that they had really good chicken. We thought, hey, why not, most French foods have not been so great so why not give a stab at Chinese. You walk in here and there are seriously only Chinese people inside. I found out that the food is Shezhuan style. I couldn't even understand a single thing on the menu, as it was all in French or Chinese. My friend ordered all the food for us. Poulet o la sauce picante- 5 stars. Wow, this is some steamed chicken type dish with some slightly spicy sauce on a bed of bean sprouts. Only 9.8 Euros and it was the highlight of our trip. The chicken was SOO flavorful and PERFECTLY cooked. I was honestly blown away and want to say that I've had some really awesome Hainan chicken in the past, but this dish blew it out of the water to the next level. Grilled peppers- 3.5 stars. This was so spicy i only ate one. My mouth was on fire. Only for the hardcore. Crazy spicy soup with different meats inside- 5 stars. Yeah, so, this was absolutely spicy and delicious. You have to scoop out the meat bits inside. I noticed no Chinese person around me was scooping and drinking the broth. Stupid me, asked for a spoon, and poured this sauce over my rice and took a bite. What followed is unprecedented in my history of eating spicy foods. My tongue went through this strange shock mode, like my tongue went numb as thought it had been electrocuted. I suddenly had this strange metallic taste take over my mouth. And then it took a good 10 minutes for all this to subside. It was absolutely weird. Just don't drink the broth. Hands down the best meal we had in France was unfortunately, and fortunately, at this restaurant. Who would have known...and I have never had food like this anywhere else in the world. I hope they can bring this to America or something so I can eat it more often.
