I love this library! Tucked away in Smyrna, this is a privately-owned library which is separate from the county/city libraries. So it runs on it's own system but seemingly no different than any other library. There's a large parking lot so scrambling for a space to park isn't a battle you have to fight when visiting. When I drove up, I was blow away by. the beauty of the building exterior, such a pretty place! I visited with my son and was also so appreciative of the accessibility since we were navigating a stroller. It was so quiet and peaceful when we walked in. There were a few patrons downstairs but you never would have known it, you could hear a pin drop. I was greeted and helped by a young lady who gave me all the in's and out's. I live right on the edge of the perimeter so I just lucked out and snagged a library card. After getting our card, my son and I just strolled around the library checking out the offerings. The children's section is so cute and filled with books, colorful furniture and space to enjoy some reading and play time. There was even a clear distinction between the section for the little littles and kids, loved it. I was also so surprised to see items available for rent such as baking supplies - how cool. As a child of a teacher who has always prioritized education and reading, I'm so grateful for libraries. Get yourself a library card today! read more

Today was the third time I've been at this library utilizing one of the study rooms close to closing time and was told that I had to exit even though there wasn't anyone waiting on it. Today, I arrived at 4:30pm and was asked to leave right after 7pm, and I'm literally looking at five other people all sitting at desks, and the second study room is vacant! It seems idiotic that if there isn't anyone vying for the study rooms LESS THAN AN HOUR until closing that someone should be asked to leave. So basically, what I just had to do is end my Zoom meeting, collect all of my belongings just to sit out next to the other patrons, all while staring at what are now TWO vacant study rooms! What harm am I doing to the day to day operations, especially when it took THIRTY MINUTES to do their rounds??? The last time I visited, I was told that my video could be heard on the first floor, which was impossible, because I have enough sense to monitor my volume, even with a closed door. At this point, I'm starting to think that it's personal since I come often if I'm in the area. So with that, I will resume my patronage at Switzer, where they understand this logic, and I won't be visiting ever again. read more

Ciara was very friendly and informative. I came in to sign up for a library card as a new resident of Smyrna. This is a privately owned library and not associated with Cobb county library system. With that being said you are required to be a Smyrna resident and if you're in an apartment complex in Smyrna you may not fully be considered a resident of Smyrna depending on the complex. My complex was considered out of the loop because the complex does not pay Smyrna/Cobb property taxes or something of that nature. I can still get a library card but not for free - at a cost of $25/year. I did not opt in for the card this time. I will browse other local Cobb county libraries first. I did however tour the library and spend an hour or two browsing books and things which is open for anyone to do. This library is clean, quiet, and well organized. The selection of books would satisfy just about anyone! It's a two story library with books on both levels. There are plenty of seating and study areas upstairs. Even some private study areas which you would need to sign up for (first come first serve). Overall the place is very nice and very serene. It definitely brought back memories of me going to the library and staying for hours at at time back home. I may come back and pay the $25 just because I enjoyed the atmosphere, the courtesy of the librarians and the overall vibe. Also, this location is open until 8pm Monday-Thursday which is a little later than other locations. They had these really cute baking pans you could check-out as well: I found them to be pretty cool and they seemingly were very clean with little to no blemishes. Cutesy fun baking pans like Spider-Man, Thomas the trains, frogs, monkeys and things. Fun stuff for the kids or bakers! read more

Very nice, clean & friendly Library located in the Village Green Square. I went to use the computer which is $1 for non members for 1 hr max. The staff were very friendly & informative. Be aware that you can only become a member if you live within the Smyrna city limits. They will check prior to the application process. Great for all ages, something for everyone. Always very clean and librarians are always so helpful. There is a little playground right outside which is always a treat for the kids. And there is a duck pond across the street with benches where you can sit, relax, and read the book you just borrowed. They also have book sales from time to time. read more

I just read some of the negative reviews about this library and I am shocked! First off, the library is a public institution that struggles to survive and when you can't be responsible enough to return your materials, you get charged. It's been that way since libraries original existence. Next point, "The Smyrna Public Library is the oldest city operated library in the state of Georgia and has provided service to the residents of Smyrna for seventy years." Of course it smells, like old pages and book glue. It definitely has that nostalgic feeling of going in to the library when you were a kid. However, it is not outdated. There is a huge selection of books, DVD's / CD's and reference materials along with an enormous children's section. Third point is that the outdoor surroundings could not be more beautiful. The library is tucked away in the heart of Smyrna, the Village Green. There are parks, large areas for picnicking, a nice playground and it's all next to the commercial spaces where there are several good restaurants and shops. Anyone who gives this library a bad review doesn't know squat about libraries. read more

The process for obtaining a library card here is quite simple. Show proof of residency and the world of borrowed multi-media is yours. Just make sure it's returned by the due date. The library is located just opposite the Smyrna Community Center or courthouse on the south side. It's a great place to drop in see what's new while taking a stroll through the area. Now charging an INSANE amount of money for overdue DVDs.... Apparently I didn't get the memo that they are charging TEN FREAKING DOLLARS for each late DVD checkout... I was about 5 days late returning 3 DVDs that I checked out on travel, and my total is $30! It will be a cold day in hell before that comes out of my wallet for some DVDs that I dont even own...I am now having to dispute it. What is the point of taking down all personal information when you first apply for a library card (like mailing addresses and email addresses) if they are not going to use it to let people know when they are going to inflate fees???? So quick update this USED to be my favorite place to go . The staff was so kind and accommodating but recently I walked in asking about a study area. The lady sounding like she's scolding a dog said NO, NO! We don't do that here anymore" this woman acted as if I was an animal to be scolded . God forbid I study for my 3 classes all above 4000 level economics courses and finish my degree. She was very rude it disgusted me . read more

I'd been buying books, reading them once (or not at all) and letting them fill up my bookshelves. Now, when there's a book or movie I'm looking to read/see I always check the library's website before heading to B&N. If they have the book and it's not "in" you can place a hold and they will call and notify you when it's ready. You can also renew books online. For the past few months, I've been able to check out the monthly selection for my book club with no problem. They also have many DVDs that Blockbuster still has on the "New Release" shelf. The only cons I've found are the non-fiction section (upstairs) can be confusing the first few times and DVDs can't be left in the curb-side book returns...pretty minor. read more

About a month ago, I decided to re-visit the library. I'd been there a couple of times before several years ago. When I got there, I'd forgotten just how big it is. There's a big selection of everything from books to magazines to dvds and cds too. They also have a large children's section, and lots of spaces to use if you want to take your laptop and get some work done there. They'll also let you know via e-mail when your items are due back...very handy! read more

I love having a Smyrna city library. And they have a suprising number of the books that I am looking for. It's free to Smyrna city residence to get a card. They have a selection of magazines, newspapers, separate science fiction section, large print, and YA titles. They have an online catalog and you can put holds through that system. Plenty of free parking behind the building. They are open all 7 days, which is fantastic. read more

I and my family just moved to a house in Vinings Glen last week. The first thing I checked online was the public library. I was so happy when I saw on your web site that this is the first public library in Georgia. I was also impressed by the facility. To my surprise however, the first interaction with the librarian turned out to be a nightmare. I went there this morning with my sons hoping to borrow some books for them. We were all excited. I told Lawrence, the librarian received us that we had moved in the week before and the only thing I could show to prove our residency was the lease agmt. I wanted to show him the scanned copy saved in my iPad. I also explained to him that we did not sign on the same paper document as people traditionally do - we signed the lease, scanned and sent it to the landlord who countersigned, scanned and sent the same back to us. So the scanned copy is the final copy. He then raised another request that I had to show him some mails sent to the new address. I explained again that we just moved in and did not have any mails. But I could show him the email from USPS indicating that I've changed the mailing address from Buckhead to Smyrna. He abruptly refused it. I never expected applying for a library card could be so difficult. In other places, it's a matter of procedure and supposed to be done in a split of second. Lawrence apparently just wanted to make trouble of us. He raised request one after another. Obviously he hated us. I don't know why. But I don't care. You occasionally will meet weird birds. It's a shame however that a public library with such a proud history would have a librarian like him. The long history and beautiful facilities are meaningless if the librarian is a jerk. I'm sure I must not be the only one that was treated this way by him. Aren't we paying taxes to the government to hire those who are willing to help others? I had to leave with my sons disappointingly this morning. If the purpose of Lawrence was to prevent us from using the services that we are eligible to, he will be disappointed. We will definitely come back. I just wish I don't see his disgusting face next time. read more

This is a terrific, modern library, as far as I am concerned, and I'm at a loss to understand why anyone would think otherwise. The staff is always pleasant and helpful, and I've never had a problem locating any book I wanted to read. I do try to be responsible and return borrowed materials on time. Why should other users and/or taxpayers have to pay for someone who is obviously irresponsible? I say keep up the good work and let the losers go elsewhere. read more

This library is rather spacious with 2 floors. A wide selection of good books and located in a clean, well landscaped, family friendly area. There are places to eat at in walking distance which is convenient. Its not apart of Cobb county library chain which is the only downfall in my opinion (since it's located in Cobb county). I was hoping to be able to check books out from here but can't. read more

My wife has brought our son here on several occasions and has had a pleasant experience. However, today I attempted getting a library card so my son could take a book home to read and was very disappointed. I would imagine a person tasked with inspiring youths to enjoy reading would at least be somewhat enthusiastic about the process, but not today....the lady working at the circulation desk was unfriendly too the point that I said forget it and walked out. love that this library is so close to my house. great resources for children. they have story time, arts and crafts, DVD to rent, and a nice kids area. the upstairs has a lot of tables to sit and read or do work. overall I really like it and it's a great asset to the city of smyrna. read more
