The Smoo Cave Hotel. This place seems timeless, if you ignored the flashing games in a few corners. It seems to be the local hub of goings on and for travellers returning to the area to escape city life.
The manager is well travelled himself and is keen to get to know the folk coming through. And keeps an extensive collection of trinkets and world currency pinned behind the bar.
Primarily it is a bar with very reasonable prices and quite an array of Scottish whisky. Playing Guess The Whisky has become a new favourite game of ours!
They also serve food, and are one of the very few places in the surrounding area to do so. They add a little note to the menu to advise of what they don't have, it is hours away from any city so you can't blame them really!
The food was actually lovely :D very cheesy pizzas, fantastic cheese burgers with the bun toasted just right, crispy chips and wonderful steak sauces which are also great for dipping chips!
I spent two nights here for dinner and we were welcomed by locals, staff and other visitors. The food was pub food but very good and the atmosphere warm. I can see us becoming regular visitors! read more
