It is a well stocked library connected to the services of the greater State of North Carolina's digital information network. It is able to satisfy the small child learning how to read and seeking an entertaining book or the serious college student working on a thesis and everyone in between and fore and aft! The programs at the library are targeted for the local community and can be enjoyed and participated in by those just visiting. More than just a bit of Americana this library is a living, breathing example of the American spirit and experience in arts, the sciences and general knowledge.

Pauper's is an amazing local, independent bookstore that sells used and new books. They have their…read moredeeply discounted books outside, but if you come on inside you'll see a cozy space with an insane variety of books! You can easily get lost in there browsing everything. They also have comic books, records, and DVDs. The books are generally priced from $1 - $20, with used books averaging $2.99 and new books averaging $15. We have had some great finds at Pauper's and always look forward to taking a trip there!

I don't recommend JCC specially the Cosmetology department!…read more Director of cosmetology Jennifer Wells, is not build for any type of supervisory position. She is unable to handle constructive criticism, walks out of meetings when questioned by students (while students are speaking to her). Very unprofessional. She bends the rules for her favorite students (which happen to be Caucasian by the way). She does not enforce the policies across the board equally for all students. She's quick to micro manage colored students hours to drop you from the program, but if you're Caucasian you're in luck. One particular student barely attended and would always have "medical issues" yet she was allowed to move to every semester with no problems nor repercussions without repeating. The student would always brag "I'm not gonna get dropped" even before staff and Jennifer would have their "meeting" regarding her. Others, get dropped, and have to walk on eggshells. Don't complain to the dean nor president because it will get swept under the rug. This issue of non equality has caused many students to give up, has affected many of our self esteem, has made us feel unintelligent and the list goes on. Instructors are AMAZING. If it weren't for them I would have given up, as well as other students. It's not their fault the department is a scam. They do their job to the best of their ability and honestly they deserve better. It is a revolving door for staff, they're often resigning. Overall I loved every single one of them, regardless they are passionate about their careers. Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Avery, Mrs. Evans made a huge impact in my life and I will forever be grateful for them.

The Hocutt-Ellington / Clayton library is a hidden gem! The staff is universally friendly and…read morehelpful. The collection within the four walls is small, to be sure, but the inter library loan system that they have with other libraries means local patrons could check out just about anything with a little bit of patience. The collection is updated and reflects diverse interests as well as backgrounds and subjects. When looking through their collection of old and new books I frequently thought, oh wow, this is not for me, but I'm glad that they have it for others. On one visit, I saw that they had wrapped up books with a description of the book but not the title or author so that patrons could be surprised when they checked the book out. I found that kind of awesome, and someone told me they do this kind of creative thing all the time. This town is very lucky to have this resource right in the heart of downtown. I feel lucky to be able to visit periodically and I'm looking forward to visiting again.
