    Blue Pine Coffins

To begin: No one wants to pick out a coffin. It means that a loved one's earthy journey has ended…read more Imagine the sadness I felt as our family was navigating the imminent loss of my mother and I had to assist my father in funeral and burial planning. It was truly the most painful time of my life. However, after a great deal of searching for the resources and providers we needed, I was led to Blue Pine Coffins and we could not be more grateful. Not only was the coffin stunningly handcrafted and beautifully made, it provided a deep and unexpected comfort at burial and beyond because it was an "elevated" object that was made individually for her with reclaimed wood, supporting her values and aesthetic. Blue Pine Coffins is a family business with a husband-and-wife duo; they custom make each coffin and their word is gold. When I reached out to Danielle two months before mom's passing, she was responsive and made every effort to get the essential info and while being so kind and compassionate. Danielle made sure the coffin we ordered would be perfect for my mom's petite frame. I could reach her via text or email and when the time came for mom's funeral, Danielle was incredibly responsive and arranged for the coffin to be delivered to the funeral home we chose. Meeting Danielle in person at delivery and having a brief hug was touching. My mom was a one-of-a-kind person who always did things her own way. She was an early adopter of earth friendly ethos- yes, she used canvas grocery bags staring in 1991! Mom made her own bread, soap, herbal tinctures, and cleaning products. She gardened and loved the natural world- trees, forests, plants. Imagine my delight finding out that Blue Pine Coffins uses regionally sourced, reclaimed blue pine and are made entirely of wood. This means the coffins are suitable for traditional Jewish and "green" burials, which is what we chose for my mother. The craftmanship is impeccable and you can request a carved Star of David or cross for the top of the coffin. I may add that the price is a great value (mom loved a good value!) and they deliver locally. Choosing Blue Pine Coffins felt authentic to my mom's ethos. I was unexpectedly moved when the coffin was delivered and I could touch the smooth wood with my hand, feeling the weight and heft of this most impressive object, while delighting in its somber beauty. It was absolutely right for mom. It was a vessel that honored her body and her life. Thank you, Blue Pine Coffins and Danielle and Dean. You are doing such important work in the physical and spiritual realm, and our family cannot thank you enough.

A day or two before the service they they opened an online obituary portal at their home page that allowed folks to leave well-wishes online. The comments are vetted before being published (authorization completed by the family of the deceased). The day of service was extremely hard, but the funeral home was absolutely professional and there was not oddities to report. The location of the funeral home was reasonable to get to--parking limited, but manageable. It was a hot day, but they had the air conditioning set to a chill level (making sense for open caskets). I don't mean to sound clinical about this review, especially when so much emotion can go into why you are there, but in the end. The funeral home was clean, provided for everybody that came to pay their respects. Prior to the service they cycled photos and/ or video reflecting memories of my friend and his family that survived him. I can't address pricing, but I heard the average cost of a funeral can easily run around 15K, and the lavatory I don't know because I didn't use it. The initial room where you first walk in is furnished nicely and to be honest it was a good area to take little ones that aren't able to sit long during the service. The area allows you to still hear what's going, limits the noise the main hall hears, and keeps you out of immediate line of sight. Anyway, if you have to use services like this, North Sacramento Funeral Home is professional and does it correct.

From the very beginning, their team was patient, compassionate, and never made us feel rushed or pressured. After a previous experience with another funeral home where everything felt urgent, this was completely different. The atmosphere here was serene, welcoming, and allowed us the space to breathe, ask questions, and make decisions with care. We genuinely felt supported every step of the way. Because of this experience, I now feel inspired to plan my own arrangements ahead of time so my family can focus on grieving and being together, rather than navigating logistics during such a painful time. I am deeply grateful for the care they provided. 10/10, and I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of compassionate and professional funeral services.

I would have highly recommend ed and given them 5 stars even then. But now, I'd give them 10 stars if I could. They were amazing as I navigated through last minute, challenging complications with my mom's remains leading up to her burial.... and they didn't even handle her or cremate her when she passed (an East Bay mortuary did). They truly went above and beyond even coming to pick up my moms remains at my home and finding a way to ensure it would arrive safely close to her burial site since I could not take her on a plane with her urn. They were kind, compassionate, professional, thorough, and go above and beyond at a time when it's really needed. Thank you Eugene, in particular!
