Used "Heart and Soul" as a funeral song for a 94-year-old! Are you kidding me????…read more Like most Funeral Homes, these guys are way behind the times and do not use today's technologies to easily work with families. For example, as as graphic designer myself, I had already prepared a PowerPoint slide presentation for my Uncle's funeral. It had a specific order, special hymn music and timing. When I asked the Jody, the owner of the Funeral Home about it, their response was that they can't use PowerPoint. Are you kidding me? Every PC and MAC in America can run PowerPoint!!! Instead, he said they would pull the photos from my slides and make their own, using their software. No way! I did not want to trust them with this. Instead, I suggested that I create a jpeg from each slide (so the layout and order would be exact) and they could simply import those photos into their software. Olivia, who I spoke to for this process was super kind and seemed to totally understand what I was wanting. She also asked me what songs I wanted and I provided her with the specific hymns that my Uncle loved. I followed up with her and she said that it all turned out great..the songs were all in place, etc. I guess my mistake was taking her word for it. Because on the day of the funeral, we show up and they had used their cheesy software (complete with a stupid treasure-chest themed opening) and only included ONE of our Hymns (Amazing Grace)...and that was the last song. Instead they had some ridiculous elevator-music...including "Heart and Soul"---That simple piano song from our childhood and from the movie "Big". Unbelievable. On top of that, the photos were all condensed to fit their software/screen format. So...everyone in the photos had long, skinny faces. Totally looked like a 10-year-old did it. I have no way of proving it, but I almost suspect that the work that Olivia did was not used, and instead, Jody thought his way was better. Very arrogant. So...do NOT trust Anderson to do anything with class or taste. Just sayin'.

He was pro-active with helping us and we never felt as if we were asking too much or were a bother. Along with him, every staff member was helpful, compassionate, and very accommodating to our needs. Every ask we had, was responded to quickly and they were so caring. Their after-care team was very helpful and we had no idea they even offered that service. The building is beautiful and we thought seating for 300 would be enough, but we ended up with some standing. Even with that, all attendees were able to see and hear the service with the TVs and they offered live streaming, which was a need for our family. With over 500 people at the visitation, they handled the traffic and made sure people were safe as they were parking. The owners were both there at different times, making sure everything was going well. If there were any issues, they were transparent to us and we didn't have to worry about anything. We are so thankful for the staff at Stewart Baxter and would highly recommend them to handle your family's needs at possibly the most difficult time in your life. The family of Kyla Klima

His visitation here was amazing. He had a love for Maid-rite sandwiches and I remember they had Maid-rite cater in. The large building was packed full of people there to pay their respects. However, today, was a guided tour. Robin who is a funeral director met with us in the lobby. She gave us the history on this building many of you pass everyday going downtown. It used to be two homes and when it was converted into one they left the fountain and very nice décor right in the center to have as a great atmosphere as you come in. Also set up in that area was some memories of a service that was to take place later. There was a lot of time and effort put into putting this They had a serving bar with coffee and some delicious cookies. We started the tour by looking in the big visiting/viewing room. Room for lots of people/chairs. We made our way into another type of viewing room. This one was more of a parlor style. Couches and chairs for intimate meeting or group. The room was very pretty and comfy. After going over more about the funeral home and the history of Dunns we made our way upstairs. We stopped midway to be shown copies of paintings done by Grant Wood for the Dunn family. I thought this was really cool and will look for these the next time I am at the DSM Art Museum. We made our way upstairs to where they keep coffin, urns and vault selections. This was really cool that they had all these options in house and are apparently the only one in their branch that does. I was in awe of the options you can get with cremation. There can even be jewelry for the family after the person is taken care of. She spoke of lots of options for all people and religions. She talked about how lots more people now are taking care of their arrangments before that day comes so the family does not have to worry about things. Speaking of taken care of, from there we moved to the room where embalming and caring for your loved one happens. It was really interesting and everything was really clean. The last stop of the tour was downstairs of the building. They have a crematory on site. She explained that it is set up that family can be present or even start the process if their beliefs need it. With all the information she provided I think what stuck the most was how much they will accommodate and help the family through this process. I left the tour feeling that this location would really bend over backwards to help a family through this tough times. I would really recommend them. I hope I would not need to use them but if I did, I would choose them. Thank you for the great tour. I learned a lot.
