Updated parking rates

This parking garage is located under the Smith Beretania park, surrounded by Beretania / Nuuanu / Smith/ Pauahi streets. The only entrance is on Beretania Street, the only exit is on Pauahi street. After parking your car, you can go back to ground floor via elevator or stairs. The elevator is often graffiti-ed. If you take the stairs, it often smells like urine from the homeless that piss there. You can't take the stairs back to the garage because the outside door is locked. When you exit the parking garage, the ramp goes right onto the sidewalk, so you need to really be careful of pedestrians. There is no parking attendant here, so you must pay by credit/debit card when you exit

Usually there are more cars when I leave at 9am

As a frequent visitor to Chinatown, I previously would utilize the metered street parking but since the rates spiked 100% in February 2019 from $1.50 to $3 per hour, I sought alternatives. With multiple municipal parking structures in Chinatown, personally I find Smith & Beretania Parking (SBP) the best one. Located below street level underneath Smith, Beretania, Nuuanu and Pauahi, SBP has got to be the cleanest municipal parking structure in the Chinatown district. The stalls are spacious where a large SUV or truck can fit without hugging the lines. There is also a dedicated EV charging station that is located near the elevators. Believe it or not but SBP parking rates are cheaper than street metered parking. It is $0.75 for 30 minutes and $1.50 for the first hour. Generally speaking, I find this parking structure the least offensive smelling. Many times I don't have to hold my breath while walking through. The entrance to this lot is on the makai side of Beretania St and exits on the mauka side of Pauahi Street. Make sure to not lose your parking ticket as you will be out $21.00. There are stairwells on both Beretania St and Pauahi St sides and for those who are physically challenged, there is an elevator near Pauahi St side. So why not a 5-star rating? I pretty much park here on the weekends and holidays as they have a great flat rate of $3. However, I am baffled when I'm given my change in unnecessary small denominations. For example, the last time my change was 50 cents and the attendant gave me 4 dimes and 2 nickels. When I asked why all these small coins, the reply was "They didn't give me sufficient change." Sadly, this has happened to me multiple times. Which means, someone is not doing their job by ensuring the staff with sufficient change for their shift. Each time it was a little after 9am when I left the garage. They open at 6am. This is unacceptable in my books. When I worked in Chinatown, they also offer an Early Bird special where you pay a $12 flat rate. You had to be in by a certain time and they allot so many spots per day. It's been some time since I last parked Early Bird here so you will need to inquire directly. Overall, SBP is my go-to place to park in Chinatown. It may not be centrally located but still it is within a decent walking distance. The spacious stalls and facility cleanliness are determining factors for me. NOTES: 1) Cash only. 2) Clearance 7' 4". 3) Be careful when exiting the property. You need to go up a slope which leads you to Pauahi Street, where pedestrians are crossing. Make sure to check BOTH directions before exiting.

This might be the best municipal parking garage in Honolulu's Chinatown. My mom parks here because she said it's the cleanest. That's because it's located on the edge of Chinatown - after Nuuanu Avenue on the left and before Smith Street. The entrance is on Beretania Street. My friend likes this garage, too, because it's not only clean, but it also has wider parking stalls. I like it because of all of these reasons plus convenience and price. It even costs less on holidays, weekends, and after 5pm (50 cents per half hour)! There were some vagrants hanging around the pedestrian entrance on Pauahi Street. It seemed like they were having an argument since they were quite loud and their words were on the harsh side...haha! Just walk quickly, don't stare, and avoid interaction...lol!

Entrance from Beretania just after First Assembly church and before playground.

There are several good reviews here, and this is my go-to parking structure for this side of Chinatown. Main points: * Underground parking (out of the sun!) * Headed Makai on Nu'uanu, turn right onto Beretania and be prepared to get into the left immediately to turn left into driveway * Municipal off-street rates (currently on weekends doesn't go over $3) * MUST HAVE CASH * Elevators and stairs are available but sometimes the stairs are a little stinky (less than in other garages though) * Be aware of your surroundings when you exit. I've never had a problem walking out, but if you're not used to Chinatown and the many homeless, you may be uncomfortable. * If you are at a late event MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR CAR OUT BEFORE THE LOT CLOSES!! Otherwise, you will have the joy of leaving and returning the next day...

Entrance sign next to the park says Chinatown Municipal Parking.

The entrance is on Pohukaina Street across Restaurant Row/Waterfront Plaza parking. It's easy to turn into the parking coming from the South Street side than Punchbowl St and having to make the left turn into the parking lot. As you enter in, you would have to make a sharp right turn and go up the parking levels. The upper levels are for State employees of near by State offices. Stalls are not as wide. Now there's a parking pay station at the ground level. Be sure you get into parking lot before they close the door by 5pm. The parking lot is open to the public from 7am-5pm. There are posted instructions for General Public, Jurors and for Placard user. They changed it where they may not have a parking attendant. They just started this new pay system so it said bills and credit cards are accepted. It's a $2 per hour for the first 2 hours. $4 per hour for addition hours. Note parking on the street maybe a quarter for 5 or 10 minutes.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been a…read moreYelp review for this parking structure as this is one of two main structures for the Hawaii State Judiciary Circuit Court Courthouse. I had to get my information from Google, so I thought I would add this here. I received a summons for jury duty and one of my first questions was "where do I park?". Apparently there are two parking structures if you are going downtown for court-related matter (or otherwise). I was assigned to Circuit Court - Ka'ahumanu Hale (777 Punchbowl Street). If your summons says you are assigned to District Court - Kauikeaouli Hale, then you'd be parking at the municipal parking lots/street meters around downtown/Chinatown then getting a refund from the state before you leave the courthouse. The court also allows you to park on street metered parking, but instructions say do not feed the meters, and if you receive a citation for an expired meter violation, turn in your citation to the Jury Pool Office or mail it in the envelope provided by the court. To me this is humbug as I don't want to walk back to the Jury Pool Office when I am trying to leave or remember to have to mail it in. It's better to park in the structure, just come early for parking. Hours are from Mon-Fri, 700 AM - 500 PM. The South Street Parking Garage is on the left side of Pohukaina if you are coming down Punchbowl Street, and you have to cross over two solid-double yellow lines to get into the structure, don't do like I did and make a right into the Waterfront Parking Garage by mistake; luckily I was able to get out before I got charged. I got there exactly at 0653 and the gate opened up. As suggested by a Google reviewer, I backed into a stall so I could get out easier, and I wasn't holding anyone up as I got there early enough. I believe the first 4 floors are for public parking and the upper floors are reserved parking; it's not a very big structure so I can imagine running out of stalls early on. There's elevator and stair access to the courthouse. Once you get downstairs, stand in line to enter the courthouse, remove your belt buckle and put everything in a plastic bin, like the ones at TSA/airport. You go through a metal detector and then into the courthouse, then get ushered into the bottom floor office where you watch a video on being a potential juror and the day goes on from there. The jury pool office stamps your parking ticket for free validated parking, otherwise the rates are $2.00 for the first and second hour, and $2.00 for each additional 1/2 hour, but you may want to call to check to make sure this is correct. I also saw a Google review saying that it's CASH ONLY. Good luck! RETURN FACTOR: I got called two other times for jury duty selection but forgot where to park since it was like 20 and 17 years ago, but now I will come back to this page if I ever forget or get called back to duty.

I've been parking here for over a decade, as well as two other municipal parking garages in the area. Very easy to get here. Located on the right side of Bishop Street, both entrance and exit between 7-11 and Starbucks/Territorial Savings Bank, and another exit via South King St. It's definitely one of the most expensive rates in the CBD. But with gym validation, parking is only $1 Mon-Fri starting at 4:30pm, and Sat & Sun 6am-10pm for up to 3 hours. Every Federal Holiday, the rate is treated as a weekend. It's easily accessible via separate elevators into the Executive Centre Hotel with a set of escalators from street side down to the hotel lobby. Few negatives. No EV charging stations, many "Reserve" stalls on every level, so you may find yourself driving up to levels 6 & 7, cash only. Few positives, very clean facilities and elevators, wide parking spaces, security on site, and the nearest garage to 24 Hour Fitness. If you are parking here at night make sure you are aware of your surroundings, watch your back, females especially walk with a friend. Also Auntie working the exit booth is the best! It's right across the street from the old Walmart. There's no attendant on duty so you take a ticket and upon exiting, scan your ticket & pay by card. The parking is still cheap even with the recent price increase. I paid $4 for under 2 1/2 hrs. The parking spaces are tight. Some are reserved for the City & County and the majority seems to be marked for compact cars. I do not drive a big car & usually do not have an issue parking in compact spaces but these spaces are ridiculous. With a little maneuvering, you can get your parked whether you back in or pull in. The problem lies in once you're parked, opening your car door & squeezing your way out without try to touch the other car with your door. The parking lot is lit but not bright so there are a lot of dark corners. There are 2 elevators, one for residents & the other one goes upstairs to the street & shops. You'll see the verbiage on the wall next to it. This is also the same building where the satellite city hall downtown office is located.
