This is the first time I've used this municipal parking lot, and I gotta admit it's one of the nicest ones in Chinatown. It's much more well-lit than the other parking lots around, and doesn't smell (as bad). There are lots of stalls and a set of stairs and an elevator. Make sure to pay at the booth on the first floor (located in the middle of the parking lot) before getting into your car.

The entrance/exit from Pauahi St side.

With multiple municipal parking lots in the Chinatown area, Chinatown Municipal Parking (CMP) has probably got to be the most impressive one. How impressive do you ask? There are 5 levels of parking in this structure. There are 2 conveniently located entrances and exits to CMP: 1) Mauka side of N Pauahi St. 2) Makai side of N Beretania St. You will need to pull a ticket before entering the parking complex. This is probably one of the busiest parking lots because of its location in Chinatown. CMP is sandwiched between 2 apartment buildings and just across the street from the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. With the above mentioned fact of CMP, one may think this is my first choice to park at but there are multiple reasons why I gave here only 3-stars. There are several things that I'm not fond of here: 1) small and narrow stalls 2) low ceilings 3) poor lighting 4) cleanliness Luckily I have a small car so I usually can maneuver myself in and out of smaller stalls but it can be nerve racking. I personally don't have major issues of claustrophobia. This parking lot can be an issue for vertically gifted people. My very first impression of CMP is the poor lighting. This structure also lacks sunlight and when adding poor lighting, this becomes a safety issue that needs to be addressed. I'm not sure if there's security patrolling this lot but with the foot traffic of the homeless and developmentally disabled individuals in this vicinity, in my previous experiences I find this lot malodorous. Remember to carry your parking ticket with you. When you return to CMP, head over to the cashier's booth located on the street level to pay your ticket. The rates here are similar to other municipal lots; 75 cents for 1/2 hour, or $1.50 per hour. On weekends and holidays you pay a flat rate of $3 all day. In weighing the pro's and con's of CMP, I use this structure as a back-up should my go-to places are full or unavailable. NOTE: Cash only.

Pay box, sometimes empty. Bathroom break? No signage of why?

Dark dingy parking lot. Small narrow stalls to park into. Lucky I got a small car but being fat negates that. Sometimes this lot gets pretty full so I hunt up and down the lower levels. Made the mistake of parking in the lower levels. Reversed into stall just fine. Opened door to tight stall, shimmy myself out. Went to trunk to get my bag and whoosh, big whiff of urine. Could have been worse right? Vomit ,feces or blood. Not farfetched at that point. 2 stars Kalei the parking lot attendant is super friendly and I love her laugh. She is a delight to talk to. Tip: go to side window to pay. Opposite side of door is the window she uses to take your ticket and funds. She does not normally use the keyhole opening like the other attendants. 5 stars for Kalei.

Cheap and usually available. $0.75 per half hour. So if you are making a quick run somewhere in Chinatown, it's great deal.

It's easy to turn into the parking coming from the South Street side than Punchbowl St and having to make the left turn into the parking lot. As you enter in, you would have to make a sharp right turn and go up the parking levels. The upper levels are for State employees of near by State offices. Stalls are not as wide. Now there's a parking pay station at the ground level. Be sure you get into parking lot before they close the door by 5pm. The parking lot is open to the public from 7am-5pm. There are posted instructions for General Public, Jurors and for Placard user. They changed it where they may not have a parking attendant. They just started this new pay system so it said bills and credit cards are accepted. It's a $2 per hour for the first 2 hours. $4 per hour for addition hours. Note parking on the street maybe a quarter for 5 or 10 minutes.

I had to get my information from Google, so I thought I would add this here. I received a summons for jury duty and one of my first questions was "where do I park?". Apparently there are two parking structures if you are going downtown for court-related matter (or otherwise). I was assigned to Circuit Court - Ka'ahumanu Hale (777 Punchbowl Street). If your summons says you are assigned to District Court - Kauikeaouli Hale, then you'd be parking at the municipal parking lots/street meters around downtown/Chinatown then getting a refund from the state before you leave the courthouse. The court also allows you to park on street metered parking, but instructions say do not feed the meters, and if you receive a citation for an expired meter violation, turn in your citation to the Jury Pool Office or mail it in the envelope provided by the court. To me this is humbug as I don't want to walk back to the Jury Pool Office when I am trying to leave or remember to have to mail it in. It's better to park in the structure, just come early for parking. Hours are from Mon-Fri, 700 AM - 500 PM. The South Street Parking Garage is on the left side of Pohukaina if you are coming down Punchbowl Street, and you have to cross over two solid-double yellow lines to get into the structure, don't do like I did and make a right into the Waterfront Parking Garage by mistake; luckily I was able to get out before I got charged. I got there exactly at 0653 and the gate opened up. As suggested by a Google reviewer, I backed into a stall so I could get out easier, and I wasn't holding anyone up as I got there early enough. I believe the first 4 floors are for public parking and the upper floors are reserved parking; it's not a very big structure so I can imagine running out of stalls early on. There's elevator and stair access to the courthouse. Once you get downstairs, stand in line to enter the courthouse, remove your belt buckle and put everything in a plastic bin, like the ones at TSA/airport. You go through a metal detector and then into the courthouse, then get ushered into the bottom floor office where you watch a video on being a potential juror and the day goes on from there. The jury pool office stamps your parking ticket for free validated parking, otherwise the rates are $2.00 for the first and second hour, and $2.00 for each additional 1/2 hour, but you may want to call to check to make sure this is correct. I also saw a Google review saying that it's CASH ONLY. Good luck! RETURN FACTOR: I got called two other times for jury duty selection but forgot where to park since it was like 20 and 17 years ago, but now I will come back to this page if I ever forget or get called back to duty.

Parking in Chinatown…read more...... It's always an adventure when going into Chinatown, especially when one needs to find a place to park your vehicle. Recently, I found this public municipal parking lot to be pretty safe, as well as the parking spaces to be more spacious then the other parking spots in Chinatown. Located on Smith/Beretania Street, you must enter the parking structure off of Beretania Street, as the parking entrance is just before a little playground park. As you enter the parking structure, it is an underground parking lot. Upon exiting the parking structure, you will pop out on Pauahi Street. Like I said before, the parking spaces here are pretty spacious, which is great if you drive a large vehicle. The parking structure is relatively clean (compared to like the other parking structures near by), as I did not see, or smell any human bodily fluids which is so common in Chinatown. Aside from the one parking attendant, I did not see any security within the facility, so it's park at your own risk. I did not feel any danger parking here during the daytime, but I would be more careful to park here at night due to some sketchy folks hanging out on the sidewalk just infront of the little park on Smith Street. Parking rates are pretty reasonable for Chinatown, but it's cash only, so make sure you have cash on hand before entering the facility.

I've been parking here for over a decade, as well as two other municipal parking garages in the area. Very easy to get here. Located on the right side of Bishop Street, both entrance and exit between 7-11 and Starbucks/Territorial Savings Bank, and another exit via South King St. It's definitely one of the most expensive rates in the CBD. But with gym validation, parking is only $1 Mon-Fri starting at 4:30pm, and Sat & Sun 6am-10pm for up to 3 hours. Every Federal Holiday, the rate is treated as a weekend. It's easily accessible via separate elevators into the Executive Centre Hotel with a set of escalators from street side down to the hotel lobby. Few negatives. No EV charging stations, many "Reserve" stalls on every level, so you may find yourself driving up to levels 6 & 7, cash only. Few positives, very clean facilities and elevators, wide parking spaces, security on site, and the nearest garage to 24 Hour Fitness. If you are parking here at night make sure you are aware of your surroundings, watch your back, females especially walk with a friend. Also Auntie working the exit booth is the best!
