A teeny tiny bit of "scraping" (if you could call it that - more like "touching" with the dental instrument). Then a brief polish (almost missed it). Poof - over. The doctor briefly visited and looked at my teeth and that was it. This was not a real dental cleaning, at least not what I am used to from previous practices I've been to. She doesn't know how to use the suction to keep your mouth clear of water very well. Every time water and spit will go down my neck. And I have to grab the paper bib to stop it from coming down.. it's awful. On top of that she will try to have a full blown conversation about your life while she has three different instruments in your mouth. Bizarre... like is this being filmed for a prank show? Next to complete this nightmare... she used bridge floss between my front teeth.. which is only used between the gums of the teeth.. so naturally it got stuck and she's tugging it. As shes tugging it I panic and try to stop it and help. The bridge floss after made my bridge teeth feel tight and painful after. Adding to this her gloved hands working on my mouth smelled as if she hadn't changed after eating an Italian sub wearing them. On another appointment I looked at the tools that come in a sterilized package and to my horror they look very old. The sterilized tools don't look sterilized and they even look rusty ! I asked them to change them to my surprise the person told me they are all like that... as she opened a new sterilized package. I'm looking for a new place.. even after asking if I can request to not get this particularly awful hygienist they said no and I would have to drive to a Hamiliton location.

When I decided to have a tooth extracted in the upper back area of my mouth; they presented me with a multi step treatment plan (many thousands of dollars) at which point I communicated that I had no intent to get implants etc because the gap would not be visible. Come surgery day, my surgeon went ahead and did a bone graft anyway. At the end of my follow up appointment a couple weeks later, the office manager pulled me aside and demanded over $800 additional for the bone graft. I communicated that I did not agree to that, had communicated my intentions earlier, and had only scheduled the appointment for the extraction. She quickly offered me a discount on the next step of the process (which hints to me that she knew they over reached) and I instead stated I should be discounted for the bone graft that I didn't ask for. She didn't budge, so I just paid up and found a new dentist immediately. Going to the dentist is stressful enough, the office shouldn't cause their patients undue financial strain on top of it. I was up front that I wanted extraction only and they performed extra work anyway. You can shake me down for the $800 since it's advisable to get a bone graft anyway, but it should be at a time of my choosing, not yours. If SDA reads this - a little communication and not making assumptions goes a long way!
